Chapter 261 Pregnancy Check-Up

Jade closed her eyes. She did not want to look at him anymore.

Zephaniah turned around silently.

When Blanche heard the last words from Zephaniah’s mother, she could not help but feel shocked. She did not expect that this woman was even more cruel than her. She deserved to be the lady boss for so many years.

She sighed softly and covered her face with a hand. “Mrs Owens, please don’t get too angry. Zephy did it for the babies. It didn’t look like he cared about her…”

Zephaniah’s mother did not say anything, but looked at Blanche with a fierce gaze. It made her shut up.

She had seen through her and sneered because of it. “You’re a woman who is good at acting. Unfortunately, you’re not a clever one. You’re not even a rival for Jade.”

Blanche’s heart sank. Her face turned pale, and she smiled. It looked very ugly. “You… why do you say so?”

Zephaniah’s mother pulled her cardigan closer. Nearly no obvious wrinkles could be seen on her well-kept face. She leaned against the sofa at the back.

Since she was able to raise a child like Zephaniah, she was not as simple as she looked. Blanche could not help but bite her bottom lip.

She realized how stupid she was to tell her part of the truth while covering up the other half of the story.

“I think I’ve told you before that Jade cannot enter my family, but the babies inside her belly cannot be lost either.” Her tone became cold. “Did you try to kill the babies today?”

Blanche opened her mouth, but she dared not deny it.

Zephaniah’s mother relaxed and elegantly picked up a teacup.

“Alright, I know that you got mad. You care about Zeph too much.” Her voice became softer, as if she was thinking about something.

Blanche only looked up and glanced at her at this time.

“Yes. You didn’t see how arrogant Jade was at that time. I just said something to her, and she came over to slap me. I… even my parents haven't touched me…” As she said that, she started to cry again.

When Zephaniah’s mother saw her being like this, she could not help but feel annoyed. She had thought that Blanche would be smarter and could get rid of Jade from her son’s heart, so it would not even be a problem to let her into the Owens family.

But she was actually useless and could only make the situation worse.

“Alright, what will this look like if you keep crying! Follow me to South City tomorrow. I want to meet Jade.”

Blanche was stunned. When she saw that Zephaniah’s mother did not say it casually, she could not help but feel happy.

“Meet her?”

Zephaniah’s mother cast a glance at Blanche, and she immediately knew what Blanche was thinking. She sneered. “At least she is pregnant with Owens’ next generation. It’s best for us to say some things clearly.”

Jade almost didn’t sleep that night. The babies also kept rolling inside her belly as if they could feel her anxiousness.

She woke up early in the morning. When her mother saw her tired face and the blue veins under her eyes, she could not help but feel worried.

“Did you fight with Zeph again?”

When Jade saw that her mother looked worried about her, she felt sorry. She was reluctant to bother her again, so she said, “No. The babies were very naughty. They did not let me sleep.”

Her father raised his head from reading the newspaper and asked, “How long has it been since you last went for a pregnancy check-up?”

It was when her father mentioned it that she remembered it. It had been a week from the appointed time.

“Quickly go today. Later, give a call to Zeph. Let him accompany you.” Jade’s mother did not think at all.

Jade did not show any expression. She was aloof. “No need. He is quite busy with work recently. I can go on my own.”

Her mother’s voice became cold instantly. “No matter how busy he is, he can still get some time out. Is his work more important or his biological babies?”

Jade stirred the porridge in front of her. It felt tasteless.

Her chest was stuffed. The more important the babies were to him, the more she didn’t want him to go.

But her eyes could not help but become teary. What was she doing? Penalizing him or the babies?

She loved him, so she could not put up with any mistakes.

He did not love her, so everything he did was so rational.

She lowered her head and smiled bitterly. She could not help but tell herself ‘Jade, it has been a long time. When will you be able to let go?’

Her father saw something wrong on her face, so he touched her mother under the table and stopped her from talking.

Her mother thought for a while before she got up, went to the kitchen, and made a call to Zephaniah.

After breakfast, Jade got ready to go out. When her mother saw that Zephaniah had not arrived yet, she stopped her.

“I’ve called Zeph. You wait for him for a while. He will be here in a minute.”

Jade was stunned a little, and she frowned. “You tell him that he doesn’t need to come over. I’m leaving now.”

After she said that, she grabbed her bag and went downstairs.

Her mother opened her mouth, but she could not stop her.

When Jade stepped out of the elevator, she saw that the car that Gilberto drove yesterday was parked outside, and the anger that she suppressed in her heart came up again. She quickly walked out, knocked on the window at the driver seat, and glared fiercely. She was ready to lose her temper.

When the window moved down, she saw Zephaniah’s calm face.

Her anger changed to shock, and she looked a little strange.

When Zephaniah saw her expression, which had some morning laziness, and her fair skin, he found Jade to be extremely adorable.

He could not help but smile.

When Jade saw him smiling for no reason, she gritted her teeth. “So now you no longer ask Gilberto to come over, but you come and guard me in person. You’re really free.”

Zephaniah blinked. He quirked his eyebrows. “Mom said you’re going for a pregnancy check-up, so I naturally need to accompany you. Gilberto can’t take care of you on my behalf.”

Jade could not help but sneer. “Gilberto can’t, but you may not be able to.”

After she said that, she turned around and left.

Zephaniah opened the door, grabbed her wrist, and frowned. “What are you angry about now? If you think I’m doing something wrong, you can directly say so. I will do something about it.”

Jade slowly turned around, cast a glance at her wrist in his grasp, and looked at him directly. “Who was talking to you on the phone last night?”

Zephaniah did not move his lips, but his expression changed slightly.

Jade smiled and said softly, “When you’re discussing the problems related to the babies, don’t you need the mother to be around? Or do you think you can make the decision personally and handle it?”

“I didn’t make any decision. Anything related to the babies will always be discussed with you,” Zephaniah promised.

She had heard the conversation last night and misunderstood it.

He did not suspect the ability of a mother doing anything to protect her babies. He wanted to explain, but she obviously did not believe him.

Jade moved out of his grasp and quirked her eyebrows. “Okay. Let us discuss now. Tell me, how do you plan to handle them?”

Zephaniah frowned, and his expression turned cold. He looked at her patiently.

A black Audi drove over and stopped beside the two of them.

Zephaniah’s mother stepped out of the car. Her natural elegance of a lady revealed itself in front of Jade. Her expression was indifferent when she glanced at the two of them, and her gaze focused on Jade’s belly for a long time.

Jade’s expression changed slightly, but the change was discreet. Then, she saw Blanche coming over from the driver’s side.

The hand print from yesterday could still be seen on her face, and Jade could not help but sneer.

Zephaniah’s eyes became extremely cold. He glanced at Blanche before he turned around and looked at his mother.

“Why didn’t you inform me that you’ve come to South City?”

His mother humphed lightly and said loudly, “If I told you, would you let me come over?” She stopped and took in a breath. “My main reason for coming is to visit Jade. After all, she is pregnant. It must be hard for her.”

Blanche walked closer. She wrapped her arms around Zephaniah’s mother’s arm, which made them look very intimate. She smiled and said, “Jade, Mrs. Owens always thinks about you. It’s been such a long time, but you haven’t visited her, so we could only come here personally.”

Jade did not answer her. She only stared at her face until Blanche got so mad that she shouted out, “Mrs Owens is here, but you’re not greeting her? Why are you staring at me!”
