Chapter 260 Stay Away From Me

She still looked tipsy, and her lips were reddish and swollen without she needed to look at it. She dared not face her parents.

She tilted her face slightly, but beside her, Zephaniah showed a faint smile while watching television elegantly. Then, he calmly turned around and greeted Jade’s parents.

Jade gritted her teeth in hatred. This man was a goblin!

“Zeph, I bought a weever today. It’s your favourite. I’ll steam it tonight.” When Jade’s mother saw that the two of them obediently sitting side by side, she smiled.

Jade cast a glance at the groceries in her mother’s hands, and she pouted. He had completely won their hearts, and her parents could not wait for her to resume her marriage with him.

Resuming their marriage. She dared not even think about it.

One was because she lacked confidence. For the past three years, she had given her soul and love to him, but got nothing in the end.

Blanche had mentioned the other reason in the morning, which was that Zephaniah’s mother would not accept her.

Between the two of them, there was still a problem that they were not willing to face, but it had to be confronted.

She lowered her head and looked at her belly. If it was not because of the babies, she was afraid that the two of them would have become strangers a long time ago.

“Jade, what are you thinking?!” Jade’s mother called her twice before she responded.

“What?”

By the time she looked up, she realized Zephaniah was no longer beside her.

“Your dad wants a book. Go and take it for him.”

Jade’s father could not reach the higher shelves of the book rack.

Jade answered, got up, and asked, “Where’s Zephaniah?”

Jade’s mother pointed at the balcony with her chin. “He is answering a call.”

The sky was completely dark. If she did not look carefully, she could not see that he was leaning against the handrail at the side of the balcony.

Zephaniah remained silent as he listened to his mother scolding him.

“Jade is stepping out of line now. She can just slap people as she likes. Look at how swollen Blanche’s face is!” She put down the teacup on the table heavily before she sneered. “I heard she slapped Blanche at the lobby of Dragon’s Ascent? Great, so great. Did she know she has made our Owens family embarrassed!”

By the end of it, her voice had cracked out of tune. Blanche sat by the side, so shocked that she was stunned. She had never seen Zephaniah’s mother losing herself like this before.

She held her laughter. The relationship between the bitch and Zephaniah’s mother could not get any worse. She could never think of becoming the daughter in-law of the Owens family openly!

When she thought about this, she felt the slap had been worth something at the very least.

When Zephaniah’s mother did not receive any response, she took it as his silent protest. She could not help but become madder. “Don’t ever think that she now has your babies, so she could do whatever she wants. As long as I’m alive, she will never get past me and into the family!”

Zephaniah finally answered, and his tone was cold. “I’m afraid that Blanche Kirk selectively told you half of the story. Let me add up for you.” His speed was stable, but he sounded cold. “It’s me who had Jade wait for me in Dragon’s Ascent. Besides, it’s the woman sitting by your side who took the initiative to provoke Jade, and Jade slapped her only because she went too far. At last, if I didn’t stop her, I’m afraid she would have hurt Jade. Don’t forget, Jade is a pregnant lady.”

After Zephaniah’s mother heard it, she looked at Blanche coldly. She remained silent for a while before she stiffly said, “It takes two hands to clap. You’re now under her thumb, and she could easily have you put in a good word for her. But here’s the bottom line, your words mean nothing. After the babies come out, she will have nothing to do with the Owens family.”

Zephaniah’s expression seemed to have been covered by a layer of ice. “She is the mother of the babies.”

“Mothers are not necessary. I can take care of two kids on my own.”

Right after she said, Zephaniah hung up. He nearly broke the phone.

When Jade just came out, she faintly heard the last few words that he said, and she halted in her steps. She saw that he immediately hung up, and his expression was dreary and terrifying by the moment he turned around.

When he saw her, he looked flustered. But it seemed to vanish right away.

“Why did you come out?” His voice was still slightly cold.

Jade blinked. She did not answer him. “Who was talking to you on the phone?”

Zephaniah did not blink. He said calmly, “Gemarya. He messed up at work.”

Jade’s heart sank. He did not look like he was talking about work just now. How could work disturb a calm person like him so visibly?

But his expression did not change. “Let’s eat.”

“Okay.” As he said, he walked close and reached out to hold her in his arms.

Jade subconsciously frowned. She disliked his touch slightly, but she still reciprocated.

During dinner, he talked quite a lot with Jade’s parents. Everything he said touched their hearts, and the atmosphere was quite lively.

Jade looked at them coldly while she lowered her head and ate.

As Zephaniah talked, he cast a glance at her while he kept adding vegetables and meat into her bowl.

Her food became more as she ate. She frowned. When she saw that he picked a piece of deboned fish meat, she subconsciously felt her chest was flooded with anger, and she pushed the bowl to the front.

The three of them looked at her at the same time.

“Mum and dad, I’m full. Enjoy yourselves.”

She got up and went back to her room.

In the dark, helplessness attacked her, and her lips cracked into a bitter smile.

Kids. It was all about kids.

At that time, when she wanted to keep them, she had been very hopeful and determined to raise them on her own.

But she had second thoughts now. If their presence could not be in the presence of love and blessings, it would be very pathetic.

The doorknob turned, but because she had leaned against the door, Zephaniah did not come in.

“It’s me.”

She moved her body and let him enter the room.

When Zephaniah saw no light in the room, he frowned slightly before he casually flicked the switches. When he saw her lowered head with tears at the tip of her lashes, he was stunned.

He reached out to lift her face.

Her eyes were teary, and she did not want to look at him in the eyes.

His heart grew soft. “Why did you cry? What is this for?”

Jade waved away his arms, and she turned her head to the side. She said coldly, “Must I feel happy every day? Is being pregnant just about gaining more weight and eating more food to you?” She looked at him with a hostile gaze. “If you want kids only, you must have miscalculated. If I still cannot protect them, I would rather lose them now.”

Zephaniah instantly became cold, and his gaze became fierce. “What nonsense are you talking about now! Who could hurt them?”

Jade could stop the sting in her mouth.

Her smile was full of scorn. “Are you nervous now? The heirs of your Owens family are so precious. It’s so exhausting for you to eagerly come here every day. But it’s useless for you to flatter me. After all, they are in my belly. No one could grab them from me.”

Zephaniah’s eyes were so deep that there was no end to his depth. He said helplessly, “I know it’s hard on you during pregnancy, and it’s normal for you to get into a bad mood. I’ll bring you out to walk around tomorrow. Don’t think too much, okay?”

Jade smiled bitterly. He liked to brush her off like this.

“No need. I’m not tired. Don’t think you’re always right and make decisions for me. Stay away from me, and I’ll be happier.”

When he reached out again, she immediately moved two steps backward. Her eyes were filled with rejection.

Zephaniah seemed to grow annoyed. He said word by word, “Nobody can touch you and babies, no matter who it is.” He stopped for a while, and his voice softened. “Rest well. I’ll come to see you tomorrow.”
