“I am aware of that.” Yahiko smiled, then continued indifferently, “So what? Even if you’re married, Nanako still fell for you, didn’t she? Both myself and Nanako are willing to forgive and forget about your past and present, but what matters the most to us is your future!”

Having said this, Yahiko said solemnly, “Mr. Wade, since the incident, I have gained new insight in regards to human life. When one is alive, everything becomes meaningful. Being rich has its own purpose; Being poor has its own purpose. However, when one is dead, life is nothing regardless if one is rich or poor.”

“Before this incident, I would never have allowed my daughter to marry a foreigner. Nevertheless, after the incident, all these things were no longer of vital importance to me. What matters most is to make my daughter happy and give her the best in life!”

“Mr. Wade, you’re strong, capable, and charismatic. Nanako is cultivated, has a good family background, as well as inner and outer beauty. Also, she likes you a lot. I can see that you have feelings for Nanako too. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have come all the way to Japan, visited her in Kyoto, saved her life, and healed her wounds. Not to mention, you drove all the way to send her to me at midnight.”

Charlie nodded and said, “Mr. Ito, no doubt Nanako is a very nice girl. However, as I mentioned earlier, I’m a married man.”

Ito waved his hand and said, “Don’t try to avoid this by using your married status. You can always file for a divorce even if you're married. If you don’t want to opt for a divorce, you can still marry Nanako and stay in Japan, never to return to where you’re from.”

Charlie shook his head and said with a smile, “Mr. Ito, indeed, I do admire Ms. Nanako for her unique qualities. However, what you’ve suggested is a definite no from me.”

A moment passed, then Charlie continued, “Moreover, I’m not staying in Japan. I’ll be returning to Oskia perhaps by today, or latest by tomorrow.”

Yahiko smiled and said seriously, “Mr. Wade, there’s an Oskian saying, ‘A talented person is free to choose his own boss’. I have investigated your background, and I’m sorry to say that your wife is not worthy of you!”

Charlie looked at Yahiko nonchalantly, then smiled as he said, “Seems like Mr. Ito has a good understanding of Oskian culture. Just a while ago, you were able to mention the words ‘Prepare for unprecedented events and accumulate strength’, now, you’re able to say the phrase ‘A talented person is free to choose his own boss’... it looks like you know Oskian culture very well indeed!”

Yahiko said seriously, “When I was young, I idolized Togo Heihachiro, who had led the Japanese navy to defeat the Russian navy in the Battle of Tsushima. It was said that Togo Heihachiro brought along a waist tag with these words engraved on it—‘To worship Macduff Ybarra for the rest of life’. Charlie nodded and laughed, “How admirable to learn that Mr. Ito is a studious person. Nevertheless, I want to clarify to you that I will not divorce my wife. As such, whatever that has been said, please do not repeat it anymore.”

Charlie continued, “Besides, I am leaving Japan very soon. Please do not mention this to Nanako to avoid any disappointment.”

Yahiko looked at Charlie and said earnestly, “Mr. Wade, Oskians are particular about the cycle of fate. The night before this, hadn’t the doctor confirmed to us that Nanako, who was sitting in a wheelchair, may not be able to stand up again for the rest of her life anymore? But now, look at her!”

Yahiko patted his knees where his legs had been amputated and mocked himself, “Now, I’m the one who has lost the ability to stand up instead of Nanako. So, this is life, the cycle of life!”

Charlie frowned and asked, “Mr. Ito, I don’t quite understand what you’ve just said.”

Yahiko laughed and said, “What I mean is that even if you leave Japan today and swear never to come back again, the cycle of fate may bring you back here even if it is against your wishes!”

“The same philosophy applies to you and your wife as well. Even if you think that you will never divorce your wife, who knows, fate may separate you two someday?!”

“Never say never, Mr. Wade. You’re still very young and have a good many years to come. Nothing is certain for now.”
