Very soon, Emi had arranged a team to go with Charlie, who was in his own car.

Nanako sat in Charlie’s car without hesitation.

Charlie drove his car to the Ito family’s mansion in Tokyo under the escort of the team.

Tokyo was one of the world’s cities with the highest housing and land market price as each acre of land was very costly. Nonetheless, the Ito family had a private manor located in a quiet environment.

The design of the manor was in a Japanese vintage style—quaint but elegant.

Charlie could see that the wooden materials used in each room were distinctive.

Apparently, the filthy-rich ones had too much wealth and had nowhere to spend. Thus, they would spend as extravagantly as they could during their house construction and renovation. They would spend lavishly on all the exported high-end stuff over the local and lower-end stuff.

In other words, they would only spend on luxurious goods.

All of the servants in the Ito Family’s mansion were dressed neatly and stood respectfully at the entrance of the mansion, at the courtyard, and inside the mansion upon the advanced call received from Emi.

After Charlie had parked his car, under the escort of Nanako, he passed by the gracefully-decorated courtyard, and when he reached the entrance of the mansion, all the servants along the way bowed humbly at him in ninety degrees.

The Ito family’s mansion in Tokyo was a huge building made of layers of wood. The building looked like an ancient temple, and the interior was extremely spacious.

In the hallway, out of the blue, Nanako knelt on the floor. She lifted her hand as a gesture of offering, then said to Charlie, “Charlie-kun, allow Nanako to change your shoes!”

Charlie was taken aback, and he waved his hand without a second thought. “There’s no need to do so, please pass me a pair of slippers, I’ll do it myself.”

Nanako insisted, “Let me do it for you. This is part of Japanese culture. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

Charlie thought in his heart, ‘Oskia advocates gender equality. How on earth is it that in Japan, women still have to kneel to change shoes for the men?’

After a second thought, he thought it would be best to follow the Japanese culture since it was a norm for the Japanese. If he insisted on behaving in his own manner, that would be very rude.

As such, he lifted his legs up and said sincerely, “I’m sorry to trouble you.”

Nanako, who was in her traditional kimono, raised her head, then smiled shyly. She was such a beauty to behold.

She lifted Charlie’s leg with care, then gently helped him to slip into a pair of slippers. After that, she helped herself up slowly and said to Charlie, “Please come in, Charlie-kun!”

Charlie nodded slightly, and they entered together.

Nanako talked about her house, “This mansion is more than a hundred years old. It suffered greatly during the Kanto earthquake. As a result, no one wanted to purchase this house due to its high renovation cost. After it was bought over by father, he spent a huge sum of money to restore the building to become what it is now.”

Out of curiosity, Charlie asked, “Does Mr. Ito have special affection toward this type of old mansion? The mansion in Kyoto was much older than this.”

Nanako smiled softly and said, “Actually, I like this kind of architectural design. I moved to Tokyo from Kyoto when I was fourteen years old, and because I had a hard time adapting to the new life in Tokyo, my father bought this mansion and spent a lot of money to restore it to its current look.”

Nanako said regretfully, “Nonetheless. I still prefer the house in Kyoto.”

Charlie nodded, then said, “Indeed, this classical mansion is filled with a serene ambience. Yet, Kyoto’s villa was slightly better than this.”

Nanako said melancholically, “Since my father wants me to become his successor, I believe I will have very little chances to go back to Kyoto…..”

After she finished her sentence, she raised her head and looked at Charlie with pleading eyes as she asked, “Charlie-kun, I wonder if you can fulfil my request?”
