“Charlie-san…”

Sobbing, Nanako whirled the wheels of her wheelchair toward Charlie.

Charlie took a few quick steps toward her and asked, “Ito-san, are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m okay…” Nanako nodded vigorously, then, she covered her face and cried bitterly as the emotions came rushing toward her.

At this moment, she was not sad because of the near-death experience, but she was overwhelmed by Charlie’s sudden appearance, so much so that she couldn’t control her emotions.

Seeing her crying uncontrollably, Charlie stretched out his hand, gently stroking the back of her cold hand, and said softly, “It’s okay, Ito-san. Everything’s fine now. Don’t cry.”

Nanako wiped away her tears, shook her head, and said, “I’m not crying over what just happened…”

With that, she lifted her gaze, which was filled with intense love and passion, and said as she continued sobbing, “Charlie-san, why did you come to Kyoto?”

Charlie smiled. “I came to Japan for some business matters, and I just happened to be in Osaka. It’s not so far from Kyoto, so I thought of dropping by to visit you.”

Hearing that, Nanako felt as if a pot of honey had been poured directly on her heart, giving her a very sweet and loving feeling.

She asked excitedly, “Charlie-san, d-did you come to see me because you missed me?”

“Uh…” Charlie stuttered in a daze.

‘Hmm, I should have thought of a lame excuse to explain my purpose of visit, but on second thought, nothing could explain why I would come all the way to Kyoto just to see her as the action itself is self-evident. What is there to lie about at this moment?’

With those thoughts in mind, he nodded lightly and said somewhat awkwardly, “Sort of…”

Upon hearing that, Nanako was over the moon! She grinned from ear to ear although there were still tears hanging at the corner of her eyes, waiting to drop. “I never thought that you would think of me… I-I’m so surprised and happy…”

Then, she hurriedly asked, “Charlie-san, how did you know I was in Kyoto?”

Charlie answered, “I bumped into Tanaka Hiroshi at Aurous Airport, and he told me about it.”

“I see!” Nanako said shyly, “Charlie-san, thank you for remembering me, and thank you for saving my life today…”

Charlie smiled and said, “Don’t mention it, it was my pleasure.”

Then, he asked, “I see that you are still wheelchair-bound. Is it because you haven’t recovered yet?”

“Yes.” Nanako nodded lightly. “I was seriously injured during my last match with Aurora in the finals. I spent some time in Tokyo for treatment and was already out of danger, but my body has yet to recover. It may take a long time to heal.”

Charlie nodded and said earnestly, “Actually, I came this time mainly to help you heal your injury. It’s just that I didn’t expect to encounter such an incident…”

Nanako smiled gratefully and said, “Charlie-san, I was treated by the best doctors in Japan, and from what they’ve said, I should count my blessings for still being alive. Even with the most advanced medical technology they have today, it’s hard for me to return to the same condition as I was before. It will be considered a medical miracle if I can get rid of the wheelchair in a few years.”

With that being said, she raised her gaze, looked at Charlie with her blazing eyes, and said seriously, “Charlie-san, I’m very touched that you came all the way to see me. This is more important than getting me back on my feet or recovering…”

“You have no idea how much I’ve missed you. Even I can’t believe that my biggest wish is not to recover, but to be able to see you again…”

She plucked up her courage, took Charlie’s hand, and spoke with great affection, “Thank you, Charlie-san! Thank you for being here. It’s my good luck that you are here. I will have no regrets if I can hold hands with you to walk in the snow…”

Charlie felt his heart aching slightly as he looked at her gentle and watery gaze, so he said seriously, “Nanako, I have a way to heal you so that you can completely recover!”
