Chapter 1

“May the Gods protect us Yates’. May our legacy live long, and may our children be special. May our descendants be blessed to be the best of the best.”Clutching her dragon head cane, the Matriarch of the Yates Clan watched at her clan’s descendants contentedly.Today marked the sixtieth birthday of the Head of the Yates Clan. Power had been transferred to Old Madam Yates ever since the passing of her husband, Old Master Yates, giving her the final say in matters, regardless of their weight. Those who came to congratulate her were all distinguished figures within the Yin Perfecture.Suddenly, a loud cry sounded.“Tyler of the Yates Clan wishes the Matriarch boundless good fortunes, and longevity. Humbly, I present to you a carved jade vessel!”“Felix Wilson, the Chairman of the Glenn Group wishes the Matriarch a long-lasting life and presents you with a pair of jade sculptures!”“The General Manager from the Sea of Harvest Group wishes the Matriarch good health and eternal life

Chapter 2

Sparing Yakov a disbelieving glance, Yulia laughed condescendingly. “Sorry, what? With your resources?”“All you have to do is believe in me.” Yakov Xayarath states confidently. This was the first time Yulia had seen Yakov so serious, and in the heat of the moment, she believed.“Hah, who are we kidding? Who am I to eye the main seat? All I wish is that the Matriarch takes a second look at my father’s side of the clan.”At the same time on the Main Seat, the Matriarch sighed. Tyler was quick to enquire, “Today is your birthday, Grandmother. Why are you sighing?”“Indeed. Today was supposed to be a joyous day, yet there’s something that nags at my heart. How could I possibly enjoy myself when we have yet to reach any common grounds with the Kierra Group?”The Kierra Group was one of Yin Prefecture’s well-known large-scale privately-run groups. With over ten companies under its name and a yearly profit of over a billion yuan, the Kierra Group was truly a large consortium.“The Y

Yulia Yates’ parents were waiting for them in their study by the time she and Yakov Xayarath returned.“Mom, Dad, why did you come over?”“How did it go? You went to celebrate your grandmother’s birthday, she must be elated, right? What did she say?” Cecelia Lane asked anxiously gripping her daughter’s shoulder.Entering the doors, Richard sat on the couch and lit a cigarette reticently.Richard Yates was reluctant with coming to his daughter’s home, mainly because of Yakov. Every time the duo met, it felt like looking at someone who was in the same boat as you. As far as Richard himself was concerned, they were both losers. The more so it was, the more Richard did not want to meet Yakov. Yulia left nothing out as she narrated the happenings of the banquet to her mother. In return, she was rewarded with a Cecelia that seemed to have gone crazy. “Yulia! What were you thinking? How could you accept something like that? We won’t get one cent of the inheritance if we get thrown out

Yulia was absent from work the next day, for she was busy drawing up the partnership contract with the Kierra Group. Yulia was bleary-eyed when she awoke in the morning, having burnt the midnight oil going through everything necessary for the partnership. Instead of driving herself, she rode on Yakov’s scooter to the Kierra Group. On the way there, Yulia began to close the distance between her and Yakov’s back. He felt something soft come in contact from behind, followed by a slender face that subconsciously came to rest on his shouldersYulia must have fallen asleep as a result of staying up the entirety of last night, or she would never have initiated such a loving contact. Au contraire, Yakov Xayarath found himself enjoying the contact. This was the closest the couple had been throughout these three years if his memory served him right. Yulia opened her eyes upon arrival at the Kierra Group. Flushing wine-red as she realized that she had fallen asleep leaning on Yakov’

“You have two options. One, you bow and apologize to Yulia Yates and agree to the partnership with the Yates, or two, I kill you now. Take your pick.” Only after hearing so did the incredibly wary Kierra Chandler understand. Ah, so he was just someone the Yates Clan had sent over. Kierra smoothed down his rumpled suit and stood up from the ground, retrieving a piece of tissue to wipe at his forehead. “And if I say no? What then, you’ll kill me? The name, Kierra Chandler, is well-known throughout the entirety of the Yin Prefecture. What gave you the impression that you could kill me and walk off unharmed?” Kierra Chandler belonged to the Yin Prefecture’s upper society, after all, with his Group worth billions on the market. How could he be afraid of a man who happens to know a little Kungfu?Yakov Xayarath stared diffidently at him as he sat on the couch. “Indeed, you’re not worth me killing you myself. How about we switch up your options then. One, you bow and apologize t

Chapter 6

Having dealt with the matter, Yakov rode home on his scooter. Upon his return, he found Yulia sleeping on the couch with tears welling at the corners of her eyes. A wave of pity washed over Yakov Xayarath, and he lifted her in his arms to move her to the bed. By nightfall, he handed Yulia her chicken soup for the day and watched her finish the bowl. Yakov Xayarath would never forget the girl with pigtails from that one snowy night fifteen years ago. There was a hint of youth, reminiscent of the girl before, in the space between Yulia’s eyebrows. Serenity was where it felt real. His body littered with traces of war, Yakov Xayarath found himself enjoying the tranquility that was the past three years. From cooking to doing the laundry to fetching his wife to and from work. Yet all good things come to an end. The Dragon King Hall and his disciples await his return. Three years had passed in the blink of an eye as if it were a dream. There was no guarantee of how much longer

Chapter 7

The man Xylia was referring to was no other than Frank of the Yin Prefecture’s Chaucer Clan. Frank Chaucer always fancied Yulia Yates ever since they had met a few years ago. The Yates had even intended to marry Yulia off to Frank at the time as well. The only reason that had not happened was that a Yakov Xayarath appeared out of the blue, prompting Old Master Yates to marry his granddaughter to Yakov regardless of everyone else’s opinions. Time passed and Frank found himself a wife. However, the two ended up divorcing each other, and Frank began to yearn for Yulia again. Whether that was out of loneliness or not, nobody knew. Moreover, knowing that Yulia Yates had married a piece or garbage only fueled him to drop hints at Yulia. Going as far as to ask Xylia to play wingman. Xylia had yet to begun saying anything as a wingman before today, it was only natural she assumed the incident to be the work of Frank Chaucer helping Yulia Yates out. The more she thought about it, th

Chapter 8

“How could he possibly have eaten something like this before? All he’s had the most is a simple meal. Just look at Yulia, she’s only been getting skinnier ever since they got together.” Frank Chaucer was not too big a fan of Western food if he was honest, but he chose that restaurant anyway as he felt the need to show off a little. Most people end up stumped over how to order upon entering the restaurant. Then, he would take over the menu and elegantly order a few dishes, perhaps even add a few details he had read up on Baidu about western cultures. That way, they would surely look at him in a new light. He had even learned a few simple phrases of French as well. Quite the effort was put in, if you asked him, it was all in the pursuit of the beauty that was Yulia Yates. Frank greeted the female waitress in French. Here Yakov had assumed Frank Chaucer knew French, only to hear him order in English when the time came. Yulia chuckled. “I never expected that you would know Fre

Yulia felt awkward. Yakov Xayarath was still her husband, after all, Frank had gone overboard by confessing in front of everyone. Yet Yakov sat unaffected as if nothing had happened as he believed he understood Yulia enough to know that Frank was not her type. However, it did not mean that Yakov understood women. For Yulia, at that moment, wanted nothing more than for Yakov to stand up and defend his honor. Instead, Yakov’s reaction, or lack thereof, only proved to kill whatever good impression Yulia had of him moments ago. “You haven’t even touched a sip of alcohol yet, Mr. Chaucer. What’s with the drunken ramblings?” Yulia asked in a steady tone. “I’m not drunk, Yulia. To tell you the truth, the reason why I’m meeting in such an urgent manner is that I’m sick, and I need your help.” Yulia was confounded. “My help?” She was no doctor, so what help could she possibly provide? What was he trying to say? Frank Chaucer had prepared a few tricks up his sleeve in his attempt t

Wine bottles could be found littered all over the table. Though the competition began with drinking from wine glasses, the duo had opted to chug straight out of the bottle as time progressed. ‘What a waste!’ Everyone thought as they watched bottles after bottles of La Romanee-Conti worth fifty thousand each glugged in front of their eyes. Frank Chaucer felt drunk after downing four to five bottles worth of red wine, but the sight of a completely sober Yakov made him nervous. Perhaps it was time to up the game. Frank Chaucer chugged faster and so did Yakov. “You...you sure can drink, I might even start admiring you, dude. Cheers! Drink more, for they say a thousand cups are too little when you’re drinking with a good friend.” Frank Chaucer was flushed red from the alcohol and the world began to sway before him, thoroughly drunk. Yakov smiled smugly and continued to drink. More than another ten glasses later, Frank Chaucer was completely gone. He laid face down on the desk
