Chapter 0015

The closer I got, the more uneasy my heart was. Marcus Mo would have lost so much blood by now, and there was no one here to help him. Is he dead?

The elevator suddenly stopped. No matter what I pressed, there was no response! No, the elevator can\'t break down now! Marcus Mo will die!

Outside, vaguely came the sound of high-heeled shoes on the ground.

I beat the elevator door. \"Help! Help, I’m stuck in the elevator!” Frantically, I pressed the emergency button.

A female voice came through the speaker overhead. \"Sarah, what are you doing here?”

It was Maureen.

Great, now only she was in the position to help me. The elevator suddenly lurched, and I fell, but managed to say to Maureen, \"Help Marcus, he is bleeding.\"

The security control room was just beside the door of the elevator in the floor I was currently at. It was a few floors below the penthouse where Johann’s office was.

The elevator door opened. \"What the fuck are you talking about, Sarah?”

Maureen snatched my arm and pulled me outside. “Let’s go to Marcus, quick. Let’s save him.”

“I’m not letting you get to him with that recording you made, Sarah.”

Before the elevator door could close again, she pushed me back in. I fell down on my butt. A warm liquid flowed down my thigh. I looked down and saw that there were drops of blood on the floor. The elevator door closed and lurched down again.

I pulled myself up using the handlebars, and pressed the emergency button repeatedly.

How does she know about the recording?

I felt for my cell phone. It wasn’t in the pocket of my dress anymore. I looked around me.

That mobile phone contained all the evidence I had of her involvement in this.

Suddenly, a voice sounded on the speaker. It was a male voice, this time. “Sarah. Are you okay?”

It was Tom.

I screamed, “Tom, help me! I’m stuck in here! Tom , Marcus is bleeding out in his office, I stabbed him!”

“Hang on. I’m going to get you out of there.”

The elevator squeaked and slipped down a few meters.

“Tom , call someone to help Marcus!”

“His sister has called an ambulance. She was just here, I saw her. He’ll be fine.”

The door opened partially. It was in between floors.

His voice came from the the speaker. “Come on, Summer. Jump!”

I leapt out and fell on the floor. It wasn’t very high but I hurt my ankles.

The elevator suddenly made a loud noise and slid down while the door was still open.

That was a really close call. My best friend has saved me again.

The other elevator door opened and Tom wheeled himself out. He was sitting on a wheelchair, with both of his legs in a cast from the knee down.

“Tom ,” I cried out.

I struggled to get up, using my hands. Tom wheeled himself over and pulled me up. I cried out in pain.

“Here, sit on my lap,” he said. “Let’s get out of here quick, before that woman finds us.”

I did as he said and helped him wheel the chair to the elevator.

“Hold on, let me call a car that can pick us up, since neither of us are walking out of here.”

Tom dialed a number on his mobile phone and spoke to someone. I couldn’t hear what the person on the other end of the line said but the call was surprisingly brief.

“Someone’s picking us up?”

“Yeah, my cousin.”

Relieved, I leaned back a little. He put his hands on my shoulders.

“Summer, I didn’t know you’re this heavy.”

I rolled my eyes and laughed a little. Though I was very sad right now, Tom always managed to make me feel better by saying the silliest things.

As his cousin helped us get in the car, he said, “Hey Sarah, I’m sorry about what happened to Mr. And Mrs. Tang.”

“Thanks, Reggie.” A wave of sadness hit me at the mention of my parents’ names. I sat back. Tom adjusted my seat to make me comfortable, as we pulled out of the basement parking lot. He whispered in my ear, “I’m sure they’re proud of you. You did the right thing, Summer. That murdering bastard.

“I wish I could have done something to help them,” Tom said, his eyes downcast. “Maybe if I’d saved them they’d let me take care of you.”

“You’ve done so much for me already,” I replied absent-mindedly. At the time, I had completely missed the hint.
