4. I AM SORRY, ROSHAN.
Author: Oluwafunmito StarThree months since she joined ABDULLAH HOLDINGS, and exactly four months she got to Kano. She smiled just like yesterday when she got to Kano she doubted if she would survive but here she was surviving beyond her expectations.
Kano has been nothing but good to her, she played with her tresses and spun around on the chair happily. Ben was about to start typing on the computer when a lady walked into the office clanging her heels against the marbled floor.
She looked tall, the 6 inches heels she wore supported her heights, she was fair but Ben was fairer, she looked pretty from the excess make up on her face, she wasn't fat nor slim she was in between with the right size of breasts for a lady and a good size of derriere She wore a black gown that hugged her curves tightly and completed it with a pink hijab, the only clothing on her that would make people convinced she was a Muslim.
"Orisirisi (different kinds)" Ben muttered as the lady approached.
She didn't bother to greet Ben, she banged the table and asked. "Is your boss in?"
"Ooh, good afternoon to you too." Ben started typing.
"Hey, young lady. I'm talking to you." she said.
"Hey, old lady I heard you right." Ben retorted. And she felt a pang of guilt, what if she was a client? Even if she was, she should have greeted her.
Manner speaks a lot."Did you just call me an old lady?" The stranger asked Ben.
"Ooh, did I?" Ben looked at her innocently, slightly drifting away from typing.
"Well, I don't have any business with you. Is Roshan in?" She asked already losing her patience.
"Roshan. Who's Roshan?" Ben continued typing.
"Really? You don't know who Roshan is?"
"If I did, I won't ask you." Ben stopped typing and looked up at her.
"What do you want?" She asked."I'm here to see your boss." The lady told Ben.
"Do you have an appointment with him?" Ben asked sternly.
"Let him know Parvina is here." She told Ben.
"I never said he was on seat, and I was even thinking you were a family member of his that came to take over the company." Ben said with all seriousness.
"What are you talking about?" She was befuddled.
"Exactly the question!" Ben snapped, "Mr Director came to the office this morning with melancholy written all over his face, I asked him what was wrong and he just replied saying what again? Yeah!" she snapped again, he said.
"I'm about to go and commit suicide." I pleaded for him not to do it but he said he was tired of living. And who am I to stop him? I let him go." She wiped an imaginary tear. "Did he die already? I didn't know he'd die so quickly, are you the heir to the company? I promise I was a good secretary to him, please don't sack me." She brought her handkerchief out from her mini purse and wiped away tears that weren't forming. Parvina stared at her, not sure of the words to utter.
"Are you a psycho or something?" Parvina asked, Ben nodded the positive. "Oh, I see."
She narrowed her eyes and stared at Ben, "You're really sick in the head." She held her satchel firmly to her shoulder and walked towards the director's office, Ben quickly stood up and went after her, she blocked her way preventing her from moving further."You can't just go into the director's office without a permission." Ben told her, almost yelling.
"Do I look like I'm in the mood for your lame jokes? How can you just say he went to die and you expect me to believe that?" Parvina shouted.
"I didn't say he went to die, I said he told me he wanted to kill himself." Ben deadpanned.
"Ya Allah," She closed her eyes and uttered some words Ben didn't understand.
"You can't go in there." Ben told her.
The argument outside was getting into his ears, he came out to check what was going on.
He got to the secretary's office and saw the back view of Ben, she was stopping someone from entering his office.Who was that? He moved closer to take a Look.Parvina? What does she want this time?"What's happening here?" His husky voice filled the room.
"Roshan." Parvina rushed to meet him, "Are you all right?" She checked all over his body.
"Why?" He grimaced.
"Your secretary told me you went to commit suicide." She told him.
"Suicide?" He turned to look at Ben, "Why would you say that?" He asked, his face held no expression so Ben couldn't tell if he was mad at her or cool with it. No one can be cool with that of course, but she cared less.
She shrugged her shoulders and went to her seat, "She said she wants to see you." Ben sat down and went back to typing on her computer.
"Let's go in, Parvina." He led her in and waited out more, he walked to Ben's desk staring deeply into her eyes he said "When Parvina leaves, see me in my office." He left for his office after that.
"I'm going to get sacked." Ben held her chin up and sighed. "And that's what you get for being rude."
"Assalamu alaikum Roshan." Parvina greeted Roshan once they were in his office, she sat down and exhaled the sweet scent of the room.
"Walaikum Salaam." He replied her and took a seat too. "What brings you here, Parvina?" He asked not sparing more time for random talks.
"I'm sorry, Roshan." She said and glared at him exploring his features secretly. "Roshan, I'm so sorry for hurting you." She paused again but didn't look at him this time, "I'm ready to right my wrongs, I want to be with you again."
"Parvina, I have forgiven you and by Allah I have nothing against you but we can't be together anymore. We, Us and whatever we had was in the past, its history." He told her.
"We can be together again Roshan, I know you're still mad at me. I'm a changed person Wallah, I have changed." She tried to convince him.
"Changed in the sense that you don't love him anymore?" He looked at Parvina to find the lies, she bowed her head and fiddled with her fingers. "Parvina, I guess we were never meant to be. You love someone else and when we were together I didn't have half of you, he had you all through. I don't like sharing, We're done and it's final." He stood up and faced the window, "You hurt me, you know? But I'm okay and I'm glad I can tell you that."
"Roshan, my parents want you and not him." She told him.
"So you want me cos your parents want me?" He looked at her with disbelief.
"Roshan." She got up and stood still.
"Do you love me?" He asked her.
"Ro...sh...an." She stuttered.
"It's obvious you don't, so why? Why get into a loveless marriage?" He sat back.
"Roshan." She called his name.
"Its about your parents and not yourself, its the pressure. I'm not the one you love and I don't want to be with someone that doesn't love me the way I'll love her. Its cool Parvina, you can go ahead with him. I can help convince your parents if you want." He took a pen and scribbled something on the clean sheet on the desk.
"I don't really know Roshan." She took her satchel.
"You're leaving?" He noticed her movements.
"I have to go." She hurried out of his office, Roshan smiled and whispered "She'll be alright."
He placed a call across to Ben's office demanding her presence in his office.
"You called for me sir." She entered after knocking and been ordered to come in.
He stared at her, she looked different today. How? Beautiful? Pretty? Innocent? Did he just notice that?"Why did you tell Parvina I went to die?" He asked, why was he not angry? He didn't understand why too.
"I take responsibilities for my actions and I'm here for my sack letter." She said and unexpectedly, he smiled.
'Wow! Did he just smile?' That was the first time she'd see his beautiful smile.
"I will give you a sack letter if you don't tell me why you told her that." He folded his hands, suddenly interested in her explanations. "Go on, I've got no time." He looked at his watch and urged her to talk.
'Must he always be rude?' She grimaced and started. "When you came to work this morning, I greeted you but you ignored me like I was a plague." She paused and pouted.
"I came back to your office with your coffee but you rejected it and told me to get out, I even ignored your rudeness and asked what was wrong with you but you didn't say a thing. Then I assumed you're depressed, cos when people are depressed they tend to behave like a psycho and shouts at everyone that comes in contact with them." Wait! Did she just call him a psycho? He looked at her, never finding what to say.
Why was she so different today? He couldn't get mad at her and that was rare, she actually had a normal conversation with him without getting angry or making him angry, she almost angered him though but it wasn't necessary. He shrugged and said. "Fatigue, I'm stressed out."
"Hmmmm, do you feel better now?" She asked and his eyes widened in shock.
"Why?" He asked
"Why what?" She replied with a question too.
"Did you ask." He said.
"I'm your secretary." Dummy! Does that reason not sounds lame?
"I'm okay." He stared at her and Ben followed his eyes, they were rested on her eyes. The way he was looking at her was different from how he always looked at her, her cheeks flushed and she prayed he won't notice she just blushed.
"Sir." She banged the table, he coughed and returned back to the computer in front of him, Ben left the office without a go permission from him.
She got to her office and started typing gibberish words on the computer. "What was that?" She asked herself. "Exactly, what was that?" She typed so fast and everything she was typing made no sense.
So guys what was that for real?
