Coffee

You're not from Ireland are you?" She gets her toothbrush and I grab mine too.

"No." I reply shortly.

“And where are you from?” She asks, not being upset by my monosyllables.

“LA” I answer and look at her.

She has long, red-blonde curls that swirl wildly around her head, her light blue eyes and light freckles make the image of a true Irish woman perfect.

"Wow, from the States." She looks at me appreciatively, ties her hair up loosely with the toothbrush in her mouth and beams at me with her mouth full of toothpaste.

"Yes." I start brushing my teeth too.

"You are really pretty," she notes after rinsing her mouth out.

"Thank you." I smile slightly confused.

There is a way about her that irritates me on the one hand, but is really charming on the other.

To my astonishment I find that I like her and decide that it can't hurt to make at least a few contacts after three months ...

I will be here at the university for another 2 semesters, that is a whole year and I just want to have a nice chat every now and then.

Shannon and Co. were not exactly what I imagine friends to be, but Jenna could get close ...

“I think we'll be good friends Ana Coleman.” She laughs now and puts on some lip gloss.

"Are you always like this?" I smile.

"Yes, but wait until I get my first coffee." She winks at me.

"That will be fun." I reply and tie my hair loosely at the nape of the neck.

My eyes are still quite red from the last few days and nights and I completely refrain from using make-up today.

Appearance can't be everything ...

"Are we going to university together?" Jenna precedes me and immediately two more women our age crowd in.

Man, they're in a hurry.

"Sure." I stutter and she waves to me as I go to my room.

I quickly put on new jeans, a thick black sweater and my boots when there is a knock. I take my backpack and my coat and go to the door.

"LA wide?" Jenna grins at me.

"As ready as you can be." I give back.

“The holidays were way too short.” She agrees with me.

"Well, in my case they could have been shorter." We get into the elevator.

"You know Ana, you have something about yourself ..." she looks at me from the side.

"What do you mean?" I reply, confused.

"I think you are not what you appear to be." She returns and tilts her head.

"I beg your pardon?" I frown.

"Well, this hermit crab doom might be relieved by a lot of you ..." she admits "I mean, I was allowed to hear a few things about you from the previous owner of my room, but I think you are not like that." We reach the ground floor and find ourselves in a jumble of different people.

I look after her puzzled.

Hermit crabs?

I wanted my peace ...

I reflect and quickly catch up with her.

"I parked my car one street away." I point in the direction my car is parked.

"Nonsense Ana, the sun is shining ..." she waves me over. "Fresh air is good, you know."

She is actually right, the sun is shining from a cloudless sky.

I shake my head with a smile and quickly button my coat up to the top. The sun may be shining, but the temperature is still arctic.

"Here." Jenna hands me her scarf. "If I can persuade you to run, then you shouldn't freeze to death." She laughs and I tie it around gratefully.

Jenna stretches her face towards the rays of the sun and I do the same, it's a nice feeling on the skin and she hooks me as we continue on our way.

“How long have you been in dub?” She now wants to know from me and I think about it for a moment.

"For 3 months." I give back.

"How do you like it so far?" She tilts her head and smiles.

"Quite good, but I haven't seen and experienced much besides university." I shrug my shoulders.

"I have to change that, but now you have me." She walks backwards in front of me.

So the woman clearly has enough self-confidence ...

"Yes, what luck." I grin.

“What are you actually studying?” She asks a few seconds later and heads purposefully to Starbucks.

Oh yes coffee!

But for Jenna?

More likely a chamomile tea, otherwise she asked me a hole in my stomach up to the university grounds ...

We both get an iced chocolate mocca and after Jenna has calmed down because she finds it almost eerie that we like the same coffee, we continue on our way.

"And Ana, what are you studying now?" She pushes me lightly when we arrive at a park.

"Jura and you?" I look at her and she grins broadly.

"Medicine." She beams and I laugh softly.

"Really?" I ask in astonishment "The way you interrogate your fellow men, Jura would have been the better choice."

"Oh what ..." she waves, laughing, "Jura is too dry for me."

"Aha." I raise an eyebrow and grin.

Arrived on the campus of the university Jenna and I arrange to meet in the cafeteria and we part ways, I go to European law and smile. From this semester on, Nate is my teacher in this subject and I have to apologize for last night.

That was rude.

In a good mood, I enter the classroom, discover it and head towards it.

"Well, if that's not Ana." Nate grins at me. "I hope you are in a better mood today."

“I'm sorry about yesterday, I had an absolutely shitty vacation. I didn't want to take it out on you. ”I answer contrite.

"No topic, it's nice to hear your voice again and by the way ..." he leans towards me, "Happy New Year." He presses a kiss on my cheek.

"I wish you too." I smile brightly that he can't see it and my heart does a somersault backwards.

"Good luck on your first day." I take his hand and squeeze it lightly.

"Thanks Ana." He is happy and I find my place.
