6. REALLY?

"Bestie!" Ben yelled excitedly, she was in a real good mood.

"What's up Bes?" Esther asked from the other end.

"So tell me about the new guy in your apartment, I was sleepy last night." Esther had called her the previous night and as usual, they were gisting and talking about everything that happened during the week but Ben was sleepy and she had doze off while Esther talked.

"Ain't you at work?" Esther questioned.

"Of course I am, wait let me switch the call to video call."  She did and squealed when she saw Esther. "Oh my baby, you glow, glow girl!"

"Don't flatter me." Esther blushed.

"I'm not, I'm being serious now." She grinned. "So tell me about him."

"First, he's cute." Esther started.

"Checked!" Ben raised a thumb to praise Esther.

"His name is David, he studied medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University, and yeah he's a practising doctor." She winked at Ben.

"Wow! A big fish. Is he dark or fair?"

"None babe, he's brown and yeah he glows." Esther smiled.

"Do you like him?" Ben asked.

"I think I do."

"Any greenlight from him yet?"

"Hmmmm yeah." Esther nodded.

"So, what's the update?" Ben was curious to know what was going on.

"We kissed last night." Esther said, her face turning red as she flushed.

"Wow! Baddie." Ben winked at her. "You are really crazy."

"I know right?" Esther smirked. "How's your boss?" She asked and Ben suddenly changed her countenance.

"He should be good his P.A called in sick last week and she has travelled again this week. So right now, I'm the one handling both the P.A and secretary's job." She complained.

"I feel for you bestie."

"Thanks babe, so did you hear..." Roshan walked into her office and interrupted the call.

"See me in my office." He commanded her, she sent Esther a kiss and quickly ended the call she stormed into his office afterwards.

He was standing in his full height and staring at the outside world through the slides.

"You..." She tried to talk but he cut her off.

"I called you countless times to bring in those documents I asked you to type." He said, his voice cold.

"I didn't hear the phone ring sir." She told him, her conversation with Esther took the upper hand at that time and every other thing didn't interest her.

"Cos you were busy gossiping." He blurted out. "You are at work and you're supposed to be focused on your work but no, you were busy with some other things." He sat down and played with a pen in his hand, she stared at him and swallowed hard. "Its obvious you don't take your job seriously, you handle this task with levity hands. I'm not impressed at all."

"Levity hands you say?" She asked as if she didn't hear him right. "Really?" She let's out a short laugh that died as it came out.

"If my P.A was around she'd have handled everything differently and even more better." He told her, regrets not evident in his voice.

"Really?" She was flabbergasted he could say something like that, after working her ass off everyday just to please him. He dared compare her to someone else? "You know what, Mr Director?" She adjusted her blouse and continued. "I've tried to work hard and do my best in this company but you don't appreciate the things I do and you're here comparing me to your P.A." She looked at him with so much disdain.

"I will do what I can in this company and I don't care what the hell you or anyone do or say. You can fucking call the blonde hair lady at the reception to come take over my duties if I'm not serving you as you like, I don't even care if you sack me, I don't care."

She said, hatred laced in her voice. She lost it this time and Roshan just stared at her, not moving not speaking a word. She walked out of the office banging the door and not caring what awaits her, Roshan nodded his head he wasn't even done talking to her. 'Maybe he should sack her' The first thought that filled his mind.

Later that evening, Ben called Esther and they continued their conversation on Skype. She wowed when she saw Esther's room, it was so beautiful with all shades of white she already envisaged what the room would look like even without seeing it. Esther was the type that would make all of her Properties white.

"Bes, is there a way someone could write a letter to the government to change one's place of assignment for this NYSC stuff?" Ben asked placing a hand on her jaw and the other tightened around the chocolate pack, she stuffed the chocolate stick into her mouth.

"You wanna change?" Esther asked in disbelief.

"I never said that though but I'm thinking of changing."  She sipped from the cup that was filled with juice.

"I think there is a way though." Esther stood up to get a pack of chocolate from the fridge, the two friends had a thing for chocolates. She opened the pack and chewed gently, "Yummy." She licked her lips. "Why do you wanna change, Boss problems?" She asked.

"Yeah, something like that. He doesn't appreciates the things I do, he complains too much about me. And my dressing riles him so much, if he had his way he'd have included compulsory wearing of hijab in the company's dress code." Ben said frustratedly.

"He's a Muslim." Esther chuckled. "They love their ladies covered, so what do you plan on doing?" She asked Ben.

"I will write a letter to the NYSC management, I can't continue working in that company. Roshan is choking me."

"His name is Roshan? Awwwn what a cute name." Ben frowned at Esther's words.

"You wish." Ben hissed.

"Bes?" Esther called.

"Yeah?" She replied.

"You know its just for a period of one year and three months is gone already. And honestly the matter is not really a complicated one, why don't you overlook his complaints and focus on your work? Leave him be please." Esther sounded serious, Ben hated it when Esther was serious it made her vulnerable and she couldn't protest further she had to adhere to whatever she said. Even the look on her face was too cute for her not to agree with her words. She drank from the juice cup and nodded in agreement.

"Yay!" Esther blew her a kiss, Ben chuckled and muttered "Psycho."

"Is Roshan cute?" Esther asked smiling sheepishly.

"I wouldn't know, I have never looked at him." Ben lied, she knew, she had stared at him countless times. While he was looking at her and mostly while he wasn't looking at her she'd stolen glances. "He's always wearing a bored expression so I can't figure if he's cute or not." She lets out a shrug.

"Ben!" Esther laughed. "Something tells me he's cute."

"Good for you and that thing." They talked about other relevant and irrelevant things till a knock on Esther's door interrupted them.

"Who is there?" Esther asked.

"David." A baritone voice replied.

"He's here! See ya later." She ended the call and closed her laptop, she stood up and quickly headed to the door.

"Hey." She opened the door.

"Can I come in?" He asked politely.

What a gentleman!

"Sure, yeah" She paved a way for him to enter into the house.

"Nice apartment." He looked round and said.

"Is this your first time of coming here?" Esther asked, the last night kiss crossing her mind and she quickly waved the thoughts off, the kiss happened right on her couch.

"I just remembered I haven't really complimented your apartment since I've been coming here." He smiled.

"Funny." She flopped on the couch next to him, her white pyjamas making her look big . "I didn't know you were coming." She sounded nervous.

"You've been avoiding me since last night so I had to check on you to make sure you are fine." David said smiling briefly and revealing his dimples.

Fuck! The guy was so cute, tall and well built. She studied his features.

"I have been busy actually, I had a lot to do today so I was stressed out." She avoided his gaze that was fixed on her. "I...I..." She stuttered. "I mean what do I offer you?" She didn't want to bring up last night even though she wanted to feel that way again, it was one of the best kiss she ever had and she planned on having more with him if he was really serious with her. She must confess, he was so good at kissing, and she already tagged him a good kisser.

"I'm fine, I just wanted to make sure you are fine." He told her and Esther said nothing. "Esther." He called her name softly and her heart beat rapidly

She looked at him and quietly she said "Yeah?"

"Are you sure you are okay?" He asked her.

"Yeah sure," She feigned a smile "About last night." They said at the same time and paused, he looked at her not getting what she was about to say.

"You go first." He told her, she stood up and wore her slides, she fumbled her hands in her pyjamas pocket and looked at him and away from him, she was restless she paced around the living room.

He stood up and moved closer to her, his closeness does something to her and that thing was not known yet.

"Are you okay?" He whispered into her ear and this time she lost it, without looking at him or saying a word she crashed her lips on his and slowly their lips moved in sync with each other. He took her lips into his and kissed her softly, he wanted her, she wanted him since they kissed the first time she had been yearning for more.

He finally let go of her lips and stared deeply into her eyes. "I'm okay now." She said smiling, he drew her closer and hugged her tightly.

'Now, its certified! I'm a psycho!' Esther's subconscious mind did the talking.
