Chapter 4 The ridiculous offer

Dexter POV

Andrea’s request kept invaded my mind for the past few days. I wanted to do anything to make her happy but this is out of my control. I can’t force a woman to stay with us in this mansion, not after what I had told her in the cafe, on the first met.

‘Luckily she didn’t get hurt. If not, you won’t even breathe right now.’

I remembered that was how I scolded her on our first met and I’m sure it doesn't create any good impression on me. It will be ridiculous if she agree to stay with us here. I can’t force her like how I usually did to other people to fulfill my need.

Or maybe you can? My conscience spoke. How? With mafia’s way?

I shook my head tried to get rid of the idea. Andrea won’t like it if she find out about that. I won’t take the risk neither. I need to think of other way. The best way to negotiate the offer with her for now is by asking her nicely. Who knows, she might agree. No harm to try, isn’t it?

I took out my phone and searching for her contact. It saved in my contact list as ‘Andrea’s friend’. That was how I saved her number when Andrea asked me to do so.

I pressed on the name and wait for the line to be connected. It make me nervous waiting for her to answer the call. Why am I nervous? I’m the mafia, I shouldn’t feel this way. I scowled at myself.

“Hello, cutie,” her voice was cheerful over the line. I cleared my throat before answering her.

“I’m not Andrea,” I said emotionless.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I thought it was Andrea. You-”

“Yes, I’m her uncle.” I cut her words knowing what she wanted to say.

“Did anything happen to her?” I like the way she cares for Andrea, I can sensed how truly she cares about her. No wonder my sweet pie was obsessed about her new friend.

“Nothing happen, I call you for an offer.”

“Pardon? What do you mean by that?”

“You heard it right. An offer. I will give you an offer to work as Andrea’s nanny. She need someone to take care of her and teaches her at home.” Straightforward is my way, I don’t like to create nice words to close a deal.

“I’m sorry but I don’t understand why so sudden and why me? I have a job and I’m not thinking about getting another job.” Her voice was calm.

“I know you have a job. I’m offering you this job because Andrea wants you. I have no other choice.”

“I don’t think I can accept this job.” She rejected the next second I finished my sentence.

“I will pay you double for this job as long as you willing to stay in our mansion. Your job are simple, just take care of her and be her tutor for home schooling. I will provide everything that you need. Food, clothes, room or whatever that you need. Just name the price.”

“No, I can’t leave my job and my friend. I can’t do this. You can find other person for this job and I think there will be a lot of people who interested with your offer.”

I brushed my hair to the back. Her rejection made the anger boiled in me. Damn, if only I can force her with my mafia way. Being nice and patience wasn't my thing. I inhaled a breath tried to calm myself.

“Listen, I will give you three days to think about this. You don’t need to give me your answer now.” I don’t begged but this was my only way to be kind.

“But-”

“Miss Elsie, I don’t like to hear the word but. That wasn't in my dictionary.” I interrupted her sentence, ignoring her reason.

“Three days and I will call you back for the answer.”

Just like that, I ended the call without giving her any chance to refuse my offer one more time. You rejected the wrong person, love.
