Chapter 3 I missed you

Dexter POV

“Daddy, can you help me to text Elsie?” She walked into my room and pulled the hem of my shirt begging for my attention.

I just came back from work and that was her first request. Great, the woman successfully won the first place in her heart. What a jealous uncle I am.

I lifted her up and hold her on my arms. She placed one of her hand on my shoulder.

“Give me my kiss first,” I said moving my cheek closer to her face. She kissed me as I requested and grinned.

“Let’s text my friend.” I sighed, couldn't figure out how she managed to capture her heart.

“Ok, ok.” I walked to the bed and placed her gently before pulling out the phone from my pocket.

“What do you want to say to her?” I sat beside her on the bed.

“I miss you,” she smiled while waiting for me to type the text.

“Andrea said she miss-” I read out the words while typing the text.

“No, daddy. Just write I miss you,” she protested with my sentence. My eyebrows furrowed.

“No, if I just type those three words it will sound like I’m the one who said I miss her.” I argued back. Now, she pouted and crossed her arms on her chest. My sulking sweet pie. I almost laughed at her action but I suppressed it. She was cute with her protest look.

“Please, daddy. Just write I miss you,” she pleaded which made me shook my head. Like daughter like mother, just like my late sister.

“Well, you wouldn’t know also if I didn't type those three words,” my words caused her to look at me with her sour face.

“Lying to a kid is a no-no.” She shook her index finger in front of me like an adult teaching a kid. I burst out into laughter with her smart mouth.

“Look, sweet pie, this is my phone. If I text her that three words, she will think that I’m the one who miss her, not you. She will misunderstand that I have feeling for her,” I tried to knock some sense to a four years old girl. She was smart, I knew she could understand.

“It’s a good thing, daddy.” She giggles and covering her mouth with her small palm.

“I want to call her mommy.” Her words made my mouth parted and my eyes widen. Shocked with her sudden confession which I never expect that coming. Now, she is playing Cupid.

“No, you can’t. I don’t like her,” I chided, get rid of her imagination to call that lady mommy. Oh my God, I can’t imagine that happen.

“You will like her someday,” She said confidently. “Faster, text her,” she said and patted on my hand. I sighed, I can never argue back to this little girl.

“I missed you.” Sent.

A moment later, I heard the beeping sound of my phone. I open the text and read it.

‘I missed you too’

It felt weird, as if she replied that words to me. It will be nice if someone really said that kind of sweet words to me. Maybe I’m just lonely being a single for too long, my second voice whispered.

“Is that Elsie?” Her words snapped me back to the reality.

“Oh, yes. She said she missed you too.” I showed her the text.

“She didn’t put the name, daddy. I think she meant both of us,” she chuckled. I knitted my brows. What was in her naughty mind?

“What are you trying to do now, sweet pie?” I tickle her and made her giggle.

“I like her, daddy. She is beautiful and she is nice. I like talking to her. I want her to stay here with us.” She missed her mom, which was all I can conclude from her words. I turned and stared at her face that clouded with sadness.

“Can you make that happen for real, daddy?” Her question made me speechless.

Elsie POV

‘I missed you.’

I received a short text from the number that I saved as ‘Princess Andrea’ which was actually her uncle’s number. Maybe she asks her uncle to send me the text. I mumbled to myself. It can’t be the rude guy saying that he missed me. The sky will fall if that really happens.

Well, it will never happen and that will be the last thing in the world that I wish to happen too.

“I missed you too.” I replied shortly with a smiley face.
