Chapter 257 She Will Not Appear In Dragon’s Ascent

Author: Tea Splasher
She put a hand on her waist before she turned around. She kept her smile hidden, looking aloof. She cast her a glance, knowing full well that this woman was not here to greet her nicely.

Blanche gritted her teeth. She hated to see her looking so calm, as if she was in the centre of the world.

“What are you doing here again? You filed the divorce, but you still keep going after Zephy. I’ll be happy for you if you still feel shameful.”

Her face was contorted, and it was quite discordant with her classy outfit.

Jade could feel that she was nearly immune to the woman in front of her. No matter what she said, nothing would get to her.

Jade looked at her for a long moment before she lowered her head and chuckled. “You are really concerned for me, aren’t you? I thank you for that.” She purposely cast a glance at her watch, smiled, and said, “Your Zephy is going to send me home. I’ll go out to wait for him.”

Blanche’s anger exploded. When she saw Jade about to leave, she walked over and pulled her. She sneered. “Listen to me! Even if you can fool Zephy and keep him by your side, you can’t fool his mother! If his mother is not willing to accept you, you can never enter the Owen family again!”

Jade was shocked. She protected her belly and stepped back, but Blanche grabbed hold of her wrist.

“Let go.” Her expression became cold.

This time, Blanche almost lost her rationality. She would say anything to bring Jade down. She glanced at Jade’s belly, and said in scorn, “Isn’t it because of the babies? If not for the babies, would he still care about you? A bitch who uses kids to stick out!”

Slap!

The slap echoed in the lobby, and everyone looked over with their mouths agape.

Jade had slapped with all her strength. After she slapped Blanche, her hand felt a little numb, and she was as stunned as anyone else.

Who had let her speak without thinking to touch a nerve?

Blanche’s head was turned to a side. She was stunned for a while before she slowly turned her head back. Her face was contorted, and her eyes became red.

Jade was shocked. She tried hard to move out of her grasp, but Blanche grabbed her wrist to the point of causing pain.

When Jade saw Blanche raise her hand and prepared to catch it.

She could not get slapped by her again. It would not be a good deal.

“Stop it!” A sound came from the elevator. Zephaniah’s voice was deep, but it sounded terrifying.

Blanche ignored him. She gave a twisted smile, let go of Jade’s wrist, and her raised arm immediately fell.

Jade’s face remained untouched. Her aggressive posture gradually dissipated.

Zephaniah’s face completely darkened. At the next second, he waved his hand, and Blanche was thrown onto the ground.

“Do you want to die?!” He roared loudly before he said to Gilberto, “Get her out now!”

Blanche turned her head with a hand covering her face. She felt angry and wronged as she stared at Zephaniah. “She slapped me first! Didn’t you see it?”

Jade had a deadpan face — she was not even bothered to defend herself.

Zephaniah cast a cold glance at Gilberto. “Didn’t you hear what I’ve said?”

At the next second, Gilberto pulled Blanche from the ground without hesitation, and he brought her out screaming and kicking.

The staff around knew it was ending, so they quickly left when their CEO ignored his surroundings.

Zephaniah looked down and glanced at her wrist. Her wrist was already bruised. He frowned slightly.

“I’ll send you back.” He held her hand.

Jade did not move at all. She coldly asked, “Do you know why I slapped her?”

Zephaniah furrowed his eyebrows for a while before he said, “Of course it’s because she said something she should not say, and did something she should not do.”

Jade could not help but smile. From others’ perspectives, they would be jealous of her for having such a protective man by the side.

But she could not help but feel upset.

She lightly moved out of his grasp before she turned around without any expression. “Let’s go.”

Zephaniah stood there. He was in thought for a while before he followed her.

“She will not appear in Dragon’s Ascent again.” He sounded as if he was giving assurance to her as he apologized.

Apologizing for not protecting her.

Jade seemed to take no notice. She hummed in casual acknowledgement.

It did not matter where the woman would be. Actually, Blanche knew it better than her, and everything she said had hit her sore spot.

And what had she done? Under most situations, she would have ignored it. She yearned for the peace at that moment, but she dared not understand what was in his mind as he walked beside her.

She subconsciously smiled. He was so strict and good at restraining himself. How would he allow people to understand him?

“Send me to Taylor’s school. Dismissal time’s nearing. I’ll wait there for a while. I’ll take the taxi and send her home.” She looked a little lazy, as if she lacked energy.

Zephaniah did not answer immediately. He opened the door of the car and protected her while she got into the car. He spoke only after he sat in the driver seat, “No need for a taxi. Gilberto will send you.”

“No need. Gemarya is on leave, so he will be busy. Don’t bother him with such a small matter.”

Zephaniah remained silent. He cast a glance at her side profile without talking anymore.

……

Over the next two days, she did not have anything to do other than taking care of Taylor. Very soon, Mister Whittle invited her to Vantage over a phone call.

A few name cards were pushed over to her across the table, by Mister Whittle.

“This is the person-in-charge of the relevant magazine. I’ve gotten in touch with them. You’re the person assigned by Vantage to investigate. You know what to do.”

Jade smiled as she took them. “It's because of you, it could be easily solved. I'll keep Vantage in mind."

“Okay.” Mister Whittle nodded. He thought deeply for a while before he playfully smiled and asked, “Why don’t you ask Mister Owens for help? Based on his capabilities, he could get to the bottom of the matter for you.”

Jade’s expression did not change. She glanced up and moved her sight away from the name cards. She mocked herself and said, “A divorced woman could not be so capricious.”

Mister Whittle quirked his eyebrows. He thought about something when he looked at her retreating back and made a call to Zephaniah.

Zephaniah was sitting at the office desk, playing with a pricey black pen on his hand.

“She really said that?”

Mister Whittle smiled. “I’m not bold enough to lie to you.”

Zephaniah moved his lips slightly. He looked down, and no emotions could be seen. “I got it. You continue following up. I’ll take care of the rest.”

“Okay.”

Zephaniah put down his phone, and his mask cracked, showing some of his inner turmoil. What should he do to make her accept him?

Jade immediately went through a few magazines. All of them were the gossip magazines, and they never rejected any whistleblowers. They either paid to buy the news or sent out their paparazzi to take the photos. Therefore, there was also an unspoken rule: They would not disclose the identity of the whistleblower.

Therefore, when Jade first went over, they were not willing to say anything. But Jade was there as a representative of Vantage. If they did not provide the information, it could lead to falsehood claims. She could file a lawsuit against them. For small magazines, a lawsuit would be very troublesome, so they were only left with one option.

“It was sent over by a normal paparazzi. Initially, we did not want to take it. Nobody knew who the woman was, and there was no selling point in it. But if she had something to do with the CEO of Dragon’s Ascent, it became completely different. It was only after a while before we knew other magazines also reported about it.”

The chief editor of the magazine was wearing a pair of thick, heavy glasses. He looked worn out as if he had just come back from going after some news. He rubbed his eyes before he stared at Jade, and he said in doubt, “If I’m not mistaken, that woman looks like you. Her skin is fair…”

When Jade came, she had let her hair down. Her face had grown chubbier recently, so she did not look much like herself in the photos.

When they went back to South City, it was already evening. The rain had stopped, and the air was filled with slight moisture. The night sky came. Jade was covered with Zephaniah’s coat as she got down the car. On the way back, both of them remained silent, and none of them talked. The caregiver looked around for a long time at the door. After she heard the car engine, she opened the door of the courtyard anxiously. She saw the two of them walking in one after another, and their expressions did not look good.“Sir, Madam, your parents came in the afternoon. They have been waiting for you.” The caregiver closed the door of the courtyard, and she walked past the corridor at the back of them. Before they went into the house, they heard Jade’s mother’s cheerful laughter as she babbled along with the babies. After they went to the living room, they saw Jade’s mother holding Lincoln on the sofa. She raised her hand high, and her eyes were filled with love. Jade’s father sat on the wheel

She saw his ankle being wrapped in white gauze on the hospital bed, and she instantly felt better. She moved her sight away from Zephaniah, smiled faintly, and looked into Heidi’s eyes. “Miss Howells, are you still okay?” The smile in her eyes was unfathomably deep. Heidi’s smile froze on her lips, but she still calmly dealt with her. “Not a big deal. I just sprained my ankle when I got down the stairs. I didn’t expect Miss Redfern to visit on purpose. Sorry for bothering you.” Jade pursed her lips and glanced at Zephaniah who had already gotten up and was by her side. She grabbed his arms and chuckled. “You’ve overthought, Miss Howells. I came to look for Zeph, so I also took this chance to visit you.” As she spoke, she glanced around and saw an unfamiliar man sitting on the other side of the hospital bed.The man showed the ghost of a smile on the corner of his lips. He quirked his eyebrows, while his body leaned against the back of the chair. He gave off a relaxed elegance, a

After she got into the car, she called Zephaniah before she started the engine, but nobody answered. While she drove to Seagan City, she roughly understood what Martin said, so she subconsciously stepped on the accelerator. Before she went to the hospital, she bought a fruit basket and some flowers from the shop nearby. She then went to ask about in the nurse station, and she figured out the ward where Zephaniah’s mother was.“She has not been in a very good mood recently. When you go inside, you must speak softly.” The young nurse pointed at the ward before she reminded Jade kindly. The air was humid. On the way from South City, it rained heavily. Jade could not help but get herself a little wet. Her fringe on her forehead curled up damply, and it stuck to her head. She tied her hair to a low ponytail. With her indifferent expression, she gave off an extremely cold aura. Her footsteps resounded in the corridor, and she arrived at the door of the ward. She stood there for a while.

The caregiver sighed. “Today, when I went to the supermarket to buy some groceries, I remembered you wanting to bring two more nursing bottles to the school, so I went to the second floor and took a look. Later when I was on the second floor, I noticed a woman following me. I then recalled what you’ve told me. So, I didn’t buy anything at all, and I went back to the first floor again.” As Jade heard it, she was slightly flustered, and her expression darkened quickly. She blurted out, “What happened after that?” “That woman stopped me. She said her baby at home needed to drink milk, but she didn’t know what she should buy, so she asked me to check it out for her. As she spoke, she even stuffed five hundred to my hands. I was dragged around by her. She said she wanted to buy milk powder, but I think she was trying to trick me into telling her something.” As the caregiver said it, she rubbed her hands before she passed the five hundred dollar bill. “This is the money she gave me.”

Who are you, little b*tch? Can’t you see that we’re having our meal?” She thought that Jade was a woman whom Zephaniah had met in an unknown nightclub, so her expression became extremely unpleasant, and what she said was even more awful to hear.Zephaniah looked down as he listened to her. He could not afford to hear any more, so he moved to get up. However, a stable force weighed down on his shoulder, and he could not get up as intended. He raised his head and saw Jade pressing his shoulder while staring at Crystal across from him. She slowly curled the corner of her lips as if she was not triggered by Crystal at all. “If I’m not wrong, this lady has come here for a blind date with Mister Cobb, right?” She smiled.Jade gradually moved her arm away, but her smile grew brighter. “Our Mister Cobb needs to attend blind dates with at least ten women in a month, but nobody has been able to spend even ten days with him. I've been by his side for almost four years. So by comparison, who’s
