Chapter 246 I Am Here, And Nobody Can Touch You

After saying that, Jade moved her body slightly. She covered her eyes with her arm and continued sleeping.

The corners of Martin’s lips went down, and his expression looked complicated. He looked as if he could not bear to do whatever he was thinking about doing. He hummed before he gritted his teeth, turned around, and walked away.

When Zephaniah reached the place, Jade was still sleeping. Her body was covered by a thin blanket, and her belly bulged out. She looked as if she was relaxing.

He was angry. He imagined countless scenarios of how they would meet while on the way, and he was afraid that he might not be able to control himself and scold her fiercely. But at that moment, when he saw her gentle face, he could not do anything other than stare at her quietly. He could not even bear to wake her up.

Perhaps she had sensed a presence next to her, since Jade slowly woke up and was soon able to see clearly. She had not applied any makeup, so her lips were pale, which made her complexion look rather bad.

Zephaniah was standing nearby and looking down at her with a hard to decipher emotion in his eyes. Jade was not used to being stared at like this, so she pushed her body up with both hands to get up. But it might have been because she just woke up and her body had not gotten used to it that she instantly swayed.

Zephaniah put his hand around her waist and supported her body.

She stood up firmly with his help. But even then, Zephaniah did not let go of her.

She glanced at him without any emotion. “Are you not leaving?”

She flung his wrist away and moved past him to walk away.

Zephaniah reached out and grabbed her wrist. He gritted his teeth and reminded her, “The car is there.”

Jade struggled, but she could not free herself and could only mock him. “I’m not as rich as you. I need to bring my luggage back.”

Zephaniah looked to the side and cast a glance at Gemarya. He took the hint and instantly ran into the house.

When Zephaniah saw that she still did not move, he asked patiently, “What else?”

Jade looked at him coldly. “Martin has not come out yet.”

“I’ll have others bring him back. Get into the car first.” Before Jade could say anything, he frowned and continued speaking in a scornful tone. “Don’t worry, I’ll hold it even if I’m not happy.”

Jade felt Zephaniah was getting better with sarcasm. What he said could easily make people angry, and he just had to speak in a tone that made her want to punch him. She could not help but stand still and glare at him.

Zephaniah did not give her a chance to resist. He pulled her towards the car. On the way, he kicked the coffee table that had a watermelon and water cup, and everything fell on the ground.

Jade sat down at the seat farthest from him. She looked out the window, and her mood was just like the nearly dark sky. Her heart was heavy, and she felt gloomy. She was thinking about how she should face him when they were back. He was right. As long as the babies existed, she could never get rid of him.

Did he mean that everything he did was for the babies?

Zephaniah pursed his lips. His phone rang a few times with calls from Greyson, but he was not in the mood to pick up.

Greyson called again and again even after Zephaniah hung up on him, which was so annoying that he just turned off his phone.

“Answer the call. You have nothing to do now.”

Jade saw and heard the calls. They might be something urgent, and she would feel embarrassed if things weren’t dealt with immediately because of her.

Zephaniah threw the phone away before he glanced at her from the side. “I’m willing to do nothing now. If you weren’t so rash and kept insisting on running around, I’d have been happier.”

Jade sneered at him before saying with scorn, “Is this the first day you learned that I’m used to being unreasonable, Mister Owens? You finally said it after bearing with me for so long. You’ve really suffered. I never knew that you would be able to endure such things like those Ninja Turtles.”

Gilberto almost coughed. Nobody else dared to scold his boss so publicly.

Zephaniah felt his temples throb, and he cast a glance at the rear-view mirror. Gilberto was frightened, so he immediately stared straight ahead. He also automatically ignored all the sounds in the car.

“You don’t have to mock me. The past is the past, but we have kids now, so how can we act the same as in the past?”

Zephaniah reminded her that they had a strong connection and asked her not to think about running away all the time.

Jade’s eyelashes fluttered. She looked down and smiled bitterly. ‘Babies, you have a responsible father. Are you happy?’

Zephaniah stared at her from the corner of his eyes as she lowered her head. Her smooth hair fell on her forehead, and her crown was clearly seen. The setting sun shone on her, making her features look more gentle.

He subconsciously stopped frowning and reached out to pull her body closer. Jade was shocked when he suddenly pulled her, and before she was able to resist, she was already trapped in his arms.

He rubbed his chin on her head before he did the same at her neck. After that, he suddenly bit her neck lightly. Jade trembled. All she smelled was his familiar scent.

There was still a wall in her heart keeping her from him. Although her body wanted to get close to him, her rationality made her struggle. She coldly said, “Let me go.”

Zephaniah pretended that he could not hear her. He even whispered her name so softly that her ears turned red.

“Let me go…” She wanted for them to be serious, but her voice was trembling. It was so soft that she shook when she heard it.

Zephaniah laughed in a low voice before he teased her. “Your body is not asking me to stay away from you. So, should I stay closer or further away from you?”

Jade felt helpless and shy, but she could still not break down that wall.

Yet his eyes were filled with gentleness. He was staring at her with love, and all his moves were so gentle.

She could not tell that he would do something like that to Martin.

Her eyes turned dark, and she pushed him away with even more strength. Zephaniah stopped moving and furrowed his brow.

Jade cleared her throat, and her face became emotionless once more. “Don’t move. Don’t forget that we haven’t solved the problem with Martin. Besides, even if we have children, we don’t have an official relationship now. I am free now, and you can’t interfere with it.”

Zephaniah’s face turned dark, but he did not loosen his hold over her. There were bruises under his eyes, and though his eyes were bright, they could not hide his tiredness. He was silent for a time before he said, “He was involved in the incident when you were brought away by Roman Saul. I didn’t go too far.”

Jade’s anger almost burst out, but she was forced to suppress it with the experience she had obtained after all the years in the workplace.

“That thing happened because of Roman Saul. Why are you relating it to him? Do you have any evidence?” she asked in a cold voice.

“I haven’t found it yet.”

Jade laughed out of anger. “Do you think you’re being reasonable?”

“An anonymous person sent you to Roman Saul that day.” Zephaniah stared at her coldly.

This made her become quiet.

There was someone else involved in the middle? Jade subconsciously felt terrified. This meant that someone knew she offended Roman and purposely sent her to him. That person wanted to use another’s hands to kill her…

Zephaniah remained silent. He tightened his hold over her to pull her closer to him. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. Nobody can touch you.”

Jade was silent for a while before she calmly said, “But you can’t just say it’s Martin. You still need to get evidence.”

“Yes, I’ll investigate it. Don’t involve yourself in this anymore.” His thin lips got close to her neck, and he kissed her skin before he continued saying softly, “Before that, don’t come into contact with him too frequently.”
