Chapter 255 Meeting Mister Whittle

By the time Zephaniah came out, he saw that she had already put on her clothes. She opened the door and wanted to leave. He was a little stunned, but he immediately returned to his senses. “I’ll send you home,” he said calmly.

“There’s no need. You can go to sleep.” She shut the bedroom door after she spoke.

Zephaniah’s amicable face darkened again.

Jade stood at the door and bit her bottom lip regretfully.

When she got back home, Taylor had already been coaxed to sleep by her mother. Jade entered the room and glanced at the little girl. She was lying on the big bed and sleeping very soundly.

Jade’s mother took some food out of an insulated meal box before she called out to Jade, “Come and eat.”

When Jade saw that, she knew her mother would ask about what happened exactly. She could not help but feel scared. She walked over very slowly while she thought of a way to explain the situation.

“Where’s dad? Is he sleeping?”

“Yes,” Jade’s mother answered casually. She stared at Jade while she asked, “Did they fight because of you?”

Jade took a sip of porridge and frowned. “It was just a misunderstanding. How could it have happened because of me?”

Jade’s mother did not believe her completely. Her well-kept face rarely looked so serious, and her voice did not sound as gentle as usual. “Jade, I can see everything very clearly from the sidelines. Zeph wants to save your marriage, and he’s really been doing well lately. If you’re okay with it, there’s no need for your babies to call an outsider their father.”

Jade frowned without answering. She stirred the porridge and suddenly lost her appetite.

“I know that very well.”

“You don’t! Easton is really interested in you, but he also has a kid of his own. It’d be impossible for him to place all of his attention on you and your babies even though you’re having twins, right?”

After Jade’s mother spoke, she noticed that Jade was not eating much. Hence, she could not bear to continue talking. She just added some vegetables into her bowl.

Jade stared at the bowl and did not move at all.

Zephaniah had said the same thing to her before; Easton was not the best choice.

It was true.

However, was it her intention to look for someone with a kid to become her husband when she was still pregnant?

She looked down and hid her emotions while she mumbled, “Mum, has it ever occurred to you that Zephaniah’s doing all of these things only because of the babies? We were together for three years, but he never fell for me. Once I became pregnant, he instantly changed?”

She stopped for a while before she looked up and reluctantly said, “If it’s because of the babies, I won’t get back with him.”

How could Jade’s mother not have thought about that? But from a parent’s perspective, livelihood was more important than love.

She sighed and no longer wanted to say much. She only reminded, “Your relationship depends on you. But the two of them…”

“I’ve rejected Easton. You still can’t rest assured for your daughter?” Jade smiled bitterly.

Jade’s mother smiled in return. “I’m not worried at all. Eat quickly.”

Taylor woke up early in the morning and walked around to look for Easton. Jade held her in her arms and explained, “Daddy’s gone outstation for work. Is it okay for you to stay with me for two days, Taylor?”

Easton had been outstation for work a few times before, so Taylor blinked and accepted it without question.

When Jade saw her behave so obediently, she could not help but give her a kiss. “Quickly brush your teeth and eat breakfast. I’ll send you to class later.”

While they were eating, Zephaniah came. Jade’s mother asked him to sit and eat together with them.

He took off his coat before he sat next to Jade. The scent of aftershave was strong.

Zephaniah tilted his head. “I’ll send her to class. If you’re worried and want to follow, I’ll send you back later.”

Jade rejected without even thinking. “No, that’s very troublesome. We’ll take a taxi there.”

Jade’s mother fetched Zephaniah a cup of soy milk before she glanced at her daughter and scolded, “Zeph doesn’t feel bothered, so why do you find it troublesome? Just listen to him.”

Zephaniah smiled. “Thank you, mum.”

Jade could not help but secretly disagree. Her mother was obviously on Zephaniah’s side.

After Taylor settled down in the hobby class, Jade suddenly spoke before she got into the car. “I’m not going home first. I’ll follow you to Vantage.”

Zephaniah raised his eyebrows.

Martin was still working in his original position. Zephaniah had arranged for him to go back because he could then keep an eye on Martin. As long as he did not approach Jade frequently, Zephaniah could slowly look for his flaws.

His first take was that she wanted to go and meet Martin. He was afraid that she would not keep their agreement in mind.

When Jade saw how he instantly became unhappy, she immediately knew from a single gaze. “I’m going to meet Mister Whittle. I still want to investigate the incident of my forced resignation. I can’t just take it after being framed like this, and I also feel guilty about what happened after working so hard day and night all these years,” she said brusquely.

After that incident, he did investigate the matter. It was easy to investigate from the publisher’s photo source, but eventually, it only led to a reporter for entertainment and gossip. The reporter only focused his attention on Jade because of Zephaniah, but what was not clear was how the incident did not benefit the reporter.

Many things had been happening, so this problem had temporarily been on hold. She was reminding herself about it now.

Before he answered, though, Jade did not hesitate to reject any of his ideas. “Don’t tell me, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll handle it’. In the past few years, I’ve managed to live well without you taking care of me. After all, this is my life. I cannot just stick with you every day. If you become unhappy one day and decide to leave me, won’t it hurt me?”

Once she was done, she got into the car without giving him a chance to respond.

Zephaniah stood in place. His expression was indifferent, and no emotion could be seen on face.

When Jade noticed that he was not moving at all, she knocked on the car window and hinted at him to pick up the pace.

Upon arriving at Vantage, Jade got out of the car. Zephaniah watched as she entered the building before he gave Mister Whittle a call.

“Later, Jade will ask you about the photos. Although it’s not related to you at all, she will probably want you to provide her some contacts,” Zephaniah said honestly.

When Mister Whittle received a call from him in the morning, he initially thought that it was business-related. After he heard from Zephaniah, it took him a while to respond.

“What do you want me to do, Mister Owens?” He smiled politely and asked.

Zephaniah tapped on the steering wheel with his left index finger while he pondered…

Jade took the staff elevator. It was rush hour in the morning, so the elevator was full during each trip. She finally got an elevator with more space, and she quickly went in.

There were many colleagues with whom she was familiar in the elevator. When they saw that she had come to Vantage with a bump on her belly, all of them were shocked. But when they thought about the reason for her resignation, there was a strange look in their eyes.

“Jade? We haven’t met for a long time. You’ve changed a lot… I almost couldn’t recognize you.” Nephele’s harsh and sharp voice was suddenly heard.

Jade smiled faintly before she slowly turned around. When she saw Nephele sizing her up, and how her eyes showed her happiness about Jade’s current state, Jade did not feel angry.

“Miss Kirby, I hope you’re well.”

“You’re…” Nephele pointed at her belly, and her eyes widened. “Were all those news articles true? Are you with someone?”

When she said that, everyone could not hold back their curiosity, and they stared at Jade. Some looked at her with scorn, some looked at her as if they understood, while some even laughed out loud.

Jade was so mad that her hands trembled, but she still tried her best to appear calm.

She would never let the opponent manipulate her emotions. That was the motto she had been following all these years in the workplace.

She quirked her eyebrows, and the corner of her lips formed into a smile. Something shone in her eyes, and her face was full of joy.

She knew that she looked like someone who was asking for a slap, so she rarely wore such an expression.

But this look was the most suitable at that moment.

“Does it really matter whether it’s true or not? Since I keep in contact with everyone, I’m not afraid of people knowing about it. Some people seem pure like a lotus from the look on their faces, but they are secretly so nosy. Doesn’t it mean that they are jealous? I think you’re not that kind of person, right, Miss Kirby?” Jade blinked before she stared at her innocently.

How could she not know that Nephele had secretly talked smack about her? But Jade wanted to expose her in front of the big crowd.
