Chapter 253 Divorce Status

When Jade’s mother came out of the kitchen with the dishes, she did not see Easton, so she asked about him.

“He went downstairs to get some things. He’ll be back soon,” Jade quickly answered to appease her mother as she carefully smiled at her.

Jade’s mother glared at her, but she did not hold it at the end. They laughed together before she said seriously, “Dinner will be served in a second. Ask your father to come out and eat.”

Zephaniah had already stood up. He smiled and said, “I’ll go and push dad out.”

When all dishes were served, Easton was still not back. It had been half an hour. Jade gave him a call, but nobody answered.

“Where did he go? What did he go down and take?” Jade’s mother was setting the table while asking.

Jade frowned, but she did not answer. She just looked at Zephaniah.

He also kept away his smile. He took his coat before he gently said, “I’ll go downstairs and take a look. Mum and dad, please wait for a while.”

“I’m going with you.” Jade also followed him from behind. As she spoke, she started to change her shoes. When Zephaniah saw that Jade’s parents did not say anything, he allowed her to follow.

“Put one more on.” He noticed that she had only put on a thin short-sleeved shirt, so he took a thin knit shirt from the sofa and covered her with it.

While they waited for the elevator, Zephaniah took out his phone and gave Gemarya a call, but it was similarly not answered. His face darkened.

Two of them were not picking up their calls at the same time. There was no such coincidence.

Jade was silent. Zephaniah stood closer to her, and his calm voice sounded gentle. “Gemarya is very careful. Nothing will happen.”

She was not willing to think much either, so she nodded lightly in reply.

However, before they reached the parking lot, loud sounds of punching and painful groans could be heard from a distance.

They walked more quickly, and Zephaniah’s face was grim. When they turned a corner, they could see two of them fighting each other. Easton, in a white shirt, was pinned underneath and obviously at a disadvantage. He was punched several times as Gemarya’s eyes turned red.

Jade screamed in shock. She wanted to go over immediately, but Zephaniah pulled her back. His face darkened as he said in a low voice, “Wait here. I’ll go over.”

Following that, he turned around and coldly said, “Gemarya.”

Gemarya was raising his hand in the air, and he stopped. But right then, Easton punched him back, and Gemarya resumed what he started.

Zephaniah had already approached them, so he pulled Gemarya away from the ground and gave him a punch.

Jade had already been fearful from that beginning, and when she saw his punch, she could not help but reflect it in her voice. “Zephaniah!”

Gemarya seemed to snap out of it after the punch, and he collected his thoughts. “Mister Owens,” he said in a low voice a while later.

When Jade saw that Easton was still lying on the ground, she quickly ran over. Noticing that his face was full of bruises and the corner of his lips was bleeding, she became so scared that her voice trembled.

“How are you feeling?” She immediately raised her head and said to Zephaniah, “Call an ambulance!”

Zephaniah’s eyes were cold, and he did not reply.

The injuries were not severe to the extent that he should call an ambulance. He knew how fights between men were the most.

Easton raised his hand and tugged her sleeve. He even smiled. The redness inside his mouth made her stomach upset, but she forced herself to hold it in.

“I’m all right, don’t worry.” He gasped as he said.

Jade had never witnessed such a situation before, but no matter what, a severe injury like this had to be treated. She took out her phone and wanted to make a call.

Before she was able to press any button, her phone was taken away from the back.

She instantly turned around, and Zephaniah was looking at her in a condescending manner. As he pursed his lips, there was a complicated look in his eyes as if a strong breeze was coming over.

“What are you doing?” Jade frowned. She did not understand what he meant by his actions.

Gemarya walked closer to them with a limp. The pain made him subconsciously gasp, and he furrowed his eyebrows.

“Miss Redfern, if we go to the hospital, the police will be notified of this incident. I’m Mister Owens’ personal secretary, and this will give the company a negative image…”

Zephaniah’s tone then turned as cold as zero degrees. “Who allowed you to talk so much?”

Gemarya shivered. He obediently shut his mouth at once and took two steps back.

Jade’s eyes appeared cold too. She sneered as she asked, “Are you or the company more important? Your injuries are not mild either. Do you want to wait for them to heal themselves?”

Gemarya opened his mouth and wanted to say that Mister Owens had the best private doctor, but he ended up not saying anything under the stress.

It was really rare for her to look so nervous. Well, Zephaniah had never made her forget herself like that, anyway.

Zephaniah suppressed his anger for a while before he expressionlessly said, “I’ll get someone to treat them, so you don’t have to worry. I’ll bear the responsibility if there’s an accident.”

He had gotten her to not worry about Martin, and he was asking her not to feel worried about the current situation again. However, he forgot that he also could not avoid taking responsibility for everything, and Jade had something that she could not get rid of. If it had not been for his little trick, how would this incident have happened tonight?

Easton humphed. He supported himself with his arm on the ground and slowly got up as Jade reached out to help him.

“It’s just a fight, and it’s not so severe that I need to go to the hospital. I’ll be fine after a few days,” he comforted her softly. Then, he wiped his lips and said to Zephaniah, “Mister Owens, I believe he will tell you about tonight in detail. If I’ve done something wrong, you’re welcome to look for me.”

After he spoke, he used some strength in his legs and slowly stood up.

Gemarya opened his mouth and wanted to argue, but just as he started, he was stopped by Zephaniah’s stare.

Zephaniah smiled, but his smile did not show in his eyes. “Mister Mcdaniel, if it’s really his fault, I won’t defend him as well.” He looked at Jade as the two of them put their hands together. His voice became colder. “I’ll arrange for a doctor to come over and treat you. There will also be care workers looking after you in the coming days. No matter what the reason is, it’s my fault for not educating my man well.”

“Don’t worry, Mister Owens. This injury is nothing.” He nodded slightly. “I’ll excuse myself first.”

Jade had a serious look on her face.

“I’ll send you back. I can also buy some medication.” When she remembered Taylor, she added, “Let Taylor stay at my place these two days. Otherwise, if she sees you looking like this, she’ll cry from shock.”

“Jade,” Zephaniah uttered her name indifferently. Under his calmness, there was a storm that was about to set off.

Jade turned around, and sarcasm could not be hidden in her eyes.

“I show my concern to a friend who takes care of me. I still have that freedom.” She turned around again with her back facing him. “Also, we are divorced now. Please don’t forget that.”

As Zephaniah stared at the two of them walking farther away, he became calmer. He was so calm that even Gemarya dared not move at all.

A while later, Zephaniah faced him with a cold gaze. “Can you still walk on your own?”

Gemarya immediately nodded. His injuries were nothing, and he also did not have the guts to let Zephaniah hold him up…

Jade’s parents were still waiting upstairs, so Jade gave them a call before she sent Easton home first.

Zephaniah went back up, but he did not see Jade. After he comforted the elders, he brought Gemarya back to the office.

At the lounge on the top floor, a doctor applied medication on Gemarya’s wounds, while Zephaniah sat opposite him with his arms wrapped around his chest. He stared into the distance, and his eyes were so dark that they were unpredictable.

“Mister Owens…” Gemarya finally said after he hesitated for a long time. He knew that if Zephaniah did not want to know the reason for the fight, he would have left long ago.

Zephaniah looked up. “Say it.”

“When I reached the housing area, I directly went to the parking lot. I saw that your trunk was open from afar, and I thought it was you, so I didn’t think much of it. But when I got closer, I realized that there was nobody. When I opened the door, I saw Easton sitting in the driver’s seat, and I immediately felt alarmed. I asked him what he was doing, but he did not answer me. Shortly after, we started to pull and push each other, causing it to escalate into a fight.” When Gemarya recalled the incident, he was also confused.

Zephaniah’s expression did not change. He sat for two more minutes before he got up.

“Paid leave for one week, and I’ll get Finance to compensate you. Rest well.” After he spoke, he walked away and left.
