Chapter 248 Don’t Think Too Much. I Just Want To Hug You

Jade let out a soft huff after she closed, locked the door, and went to find her pyjamas. She would not open the door for someone who just wanted to sleep with her.

Her body was very sticky after the day, and she just wanted to shower and rest.

After she took off her clothes, she glanced at her reflection in the bathroom’s mirror, and she could not help but feel stunned. She usually did not observe herself, so she had not noticed that a few wrinkles had appeared on her belly. It was also so round that it looked slightly terrifying.

She thought it was ugly, but then, Zephaniah always saw her this way, and he never showed any other emotion regarding her appearance.

She turned around and looked at her side profile. There was no curve at all, and she smiled bitterly. They did always say that a woman became ugly for a long time after becoming pregnant.

After showering for a long time, Jade came out from the bathroom with only loose long pyjamas while drying her hair with a towel.

Suddenly, she saw Zephaniah lying on the bed while flipping through a magazine. He looked up at her calmly.

He got out of the bed and quickly walked to her. He took away the towel and started massaging her scalp using the advantage of his height. His actions were very gentle.

“This is my house.” His voice was filled with amusement as he reminded her of this fact.

She pursed her lips and took two steps forward. “I want to sleep now. Do whatever you want.”

As she said this, she walked to the bed, tugged off the blanket, and slowly lay down. Soon, Zephaniah put his hand around her waist from behind her and placed his chin on top of her head.

“Be good.”

“Don’t overthink things. I just want to hug you.”

It became silent instantly. Jade subconsciously blushed. A few minutes later, she heard even breathing next to her. She then raised her head.

Zephaniah had not shaved for a few days, so she could see a stubble on his chin. The bruises under his eyes were even darker under the light, and he was frowning even in his sleep.

She could not help but reach out to stroke his head while feeling slightly sorry for him. How many days had he not rested?

When she woke up, Zephaniah was long gone. He left a note. His writing was just as sharp as usual, but he wrote a lot more than in the past.

[I’ve left for work. I cooked some breakfast for you. Don’t go anywhere. We’ll go back to your house for dinner.]

Jade felt warm.

She only realized when she was eating alone that she had not asked him about Martin. She forgot to contact him after she came back yesterday.

“Miss Redfern?” Martin had been sleeping, and there was a nasal quality to his voice when he picked up.

Jade felt apologetic and smiled. “Where are you now?”

He was slightly stunned, but answered cheerfully. “Yesterday, Mister Owens arranged a hotel for me. I’ll stay here for two days.”

Jade nodded and stirred the pork congee with a spoon. She thought for a while before she asked, “Do you have any plans? Do you want to work in South City, or do you want to go to another place?”

Martin got up from the bed. His eyes looked the same, but he suddenly grinned. He sounded like an honest boy. “I grew up in South City, so I never thought of going to other places. I plan to get a job first and rent a house nearby. I’ll just make do for now. I’m alone, so I can live however I want.”

When Jade heard the latter part, she suddenly felt upset and immediately said, “If that’s the case, I’ll contact some people I know later. You don’t have to worry about a job.”

Martin bit his bottom lip, frowned, and said, “Miss Redfern, I don’t blame you, so you don’t have to feel guilty. I don’t want this incident to cause a rift between us…”

Jade suddenly laughed and quirked her eyebrows. “Don't underestimate me. If I really didn’t want to care about you, I wouldn’t have called you.” She smirked. “In fact, I don’t really like to do good deeds.”

The atmosphere instantly became relaxed, and Martin’s eyes were dyed with amusement. “I’m really a lucky one.”

“I’ll make a call first. I’ll inform you about the interview after I fix the time.”

“Alright, thank you.”

Jade contacted an internet company that had just been set up. It had some business deals with Vantage before. Although it was not a big company, it expanded rather quickly. Besides, the company consisted of a bunch of passionate young men, so she believed that Martin was suited for the working environment there.

The founder, Ethan Parker, was in his thirties. He was a very cheerful person, and his voice was very loud, so when he answered the call, it sounded like he was shouting.

“Miss Redfern. Any deals for me to earn a lot of fortune?” he asked with a smile.

Jade could not help but click her tongue. “You’re so greedy for a fortune at such a young age? If I’m not bringing you fortune, does that mean that I can’t contact you?”

“Bah!” Ethan quickly said while smiling. “Of course you can. You’re not a normal person to me. I guarantee I’ll be there whenever you call me! Just let me know what you need!”

Jade did not want to continue talking in circles with him, so she immediately got to the point. She smiled and said, “Ethan, you can’t just earn a fortune from a business deal. Talents are the most important thing in this industry. Look, I have a junior who worked with me in the past. He’s a clever guy, but since I left Vantage, I want to recommend him to you.”

Ethan was very good at talking and had become the big boss of a company at such a young age, so he was definitely not a simple guy.

Ethan looked around, smiled, and asked, “Miss Redfern, Vantage is much better than my company. Did this guy commit any crimes?”

Jade quirked her eyebrows, and her voice rose by a few octaves. “Why? You don’t trust me?” She then laughed lightly. “Our industry is not very big. If he really committed some crime, you’d find out eventually. I don’t need to do this to ruin my own reputation.”

Ethan thought for a while before he said, “Of course I trust you. But let me be honest with you. Recently, I finally got connected to a big company, so now is the time that I need a large amount of money. I need to spend every penny in the right place. If he is really a talented person, I can’t wait to hire him. But if he can’t help me, I can’t joke around with the profit of the dozens of staff in my company at this crucial moment, all right?”

What he said was not wrong. Jade had worked for many years in the field, so she knew that he needed to take every step carefully if he wanted to succeed with his company.

She stared at the boiled egg on the table before she took it and knocked it on the table. “How about this? I’ll treat you to a meal in the afternoon. You don’t have to interview him. I will directly bring him over to let you see him. If you want him, just hire him. If you’re not okay with him, just treat it as a free meal. What do you think?”

When she said it like that, Ethan could not reject her anymore.

He smiled and said, “I need to meet an important client in the morning. You may go straight to Glory Hut at noon. We’ll meet up there.”

Glory Hut was a famous restaurant in South City. Eating there cost a lot.

“You’re really good at choosing the location. You don’t show any sympathy to a jobless person like me at all,” Jade said jokingly.

Ethan had heard that she resigned. He initially thought it was just a rumor, but he did not expect that it turned out to be real.

He was silent before he smiled and said, “The client is very important, so I’m afraid I can’t avoid causing some problems to you.”

Jade contacted Martin, and two of them agreed to depart earlier. After all, they were the ones begging for help.

Glory Hut might be registered as a restaurant, but it was more akin to a club, as it provided a variety of high-end services. Many famous people came here for important business discussions.

When they walked in among a group of business elites, they felt awkward. Since Jade was a pregnant lady, many people kept glancing at them.

Martin tugged at her sleeve gently and whispered, “Who is this Mister Parker? I’m a nobody. Am I really qualified to have him reserve a table for us here?”

Jade glanced at him with the ghost of a smile. “He is busy dealing with a big client, so he doesn’t have the time to purposely go to another place to eat with us. We can only wait for him here.”
