Chapter 65

“Mr. Ferguson! !-”

Kim Jackson tried to speak up for herself, but the words barely left her mouth when she caught his ice-cold gaze and was forced to swallow the rest of her words.

Her face burned like red-hot coal.

In all her life she had never been so utterly humiliated before, let alone rejected in such a manner.

It felt as if she was slapped in the face by the whole universe.

However, what was even more terrifying then was Blake Ferguson’s piercing glare.

She felt a shiver across her spine.

It felt as if she had truly pissed Blake off in the worst possible way, but...

Why?

He seemed so satisfied with the proposal in the beginning and even treated her to dinner. Just how did that mute pique his interest?

The prideful Kim was at a loss, but upon seeing Jessica Scott’s indifferent expression, her heart burned with rage.

How could the great Kim Jackson be beaten by a mere mute!

Hmph! Blake himself even said it earlier, he saw it on her Weibo. She did not even do it herself!

However, Kim dared not pick on Jessica whilst in front of Blake, despite her nails digging straight into her palms from a clenched fist.

She turned to look at Lady Cecilia for help, they were always on the same page, she should say something at the very least.

Lady Cecilia, on the other hand, had not even glanced Kim’s way, instead stared at her son with raised eyebrows, as if trying to decipher the thoughts in his head.

“My Lady…”

“Kim Jackson, kindly take a step back from this conversation please.”

Lady Cecilia spoke gently but her tone of voice left no room for argument.

Kim’s face paled. All formalities had evaporated. From kindly addressing her as ‘Lady Jackson’ to straight-up using her full name, she understood the situation and shuddered.

Was Lady Cecilia abandoning her just because she was humiliated in front of her guests?

Undoubtedly, Kim was not taking this lying down, but then, it would be foolish to force her way.

All she could do was force a civil smile. “Of course. Have a pleasant conversation.”

After Kim left, only three people were left at the table, save for an oblivious child.

Jessica’s eyes watered slightly, unable to calm herself. Her heart was still racing in her chest, and her brain was a jumbled mess. Everything they said after that point in time, including how Kim left, was lost to her.

He... he actually stood up for her?

Not to mention in front of other people?

Are pigs flying yet? It sure felt like it.

She had completely disregarded the fact that Blake looked at her Weibo, and this came as a shock.

Lady Cecilia too was completely taken aback, that Blake would speak out to protect Jessica. She kept eyeing her son, unable to conceal her rage.

No one knew their child better than Mother, so the saying goes, but whatever Blake was doing, Lady Cecilia could not for the life of her figure out.

“Blake, my son. Do you have any idea what you did?”

Blake casually glanced at Jessica before looking back to his mother, “Mother, all I did was state a fact. The project isn’t moving forward with Lady Jackson’s proposal anymore, so it's best to clear up misunderstandings early on.”

The company has indeed already hired the tour guide and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the attractions he visited. If they had still gone on with Kim’s proposal at that point it would have been highly disrespectful to the guide. Not to mention, Kim should not have been complacently bragging.

Lady Cecilia furrowed her brows. He was not wrong.

Thus, she dropped the matter, and instead gestured at Jessica. “But what made you bring her here today?”

Lady Cecilia looked back to Blake with questioning eyes.

All she wanted to know was what on earth was he thinking?

What she thought was one matter, but she needed to figure out what was going on in her son’s head.

If he really did…

Her breath caught in her throat, unable to even fathom the possibility.

Blake, on the other hand, knew what his mother was implying. Jessica was not to attend any events, it had become a Ferguson “tradition”.

Jessica too wanted to know and kept her eyes on Blake.

He glanced at Jessica and simply stated, “Winson’s hungry. Take him to get some food.”

With a single sentence, he dismissed her yet again.

Jessica stubbornly did not leave in hopes of hearing what he had to say. They already ignored her for so long as they talked, surely listening in a bit longer would not hurt.

Unfortunately, little Winson had reached his limit and was bored out of his mind. A small child could never understand what the adults were saying, so he only stared at their serious faces.

He tugged at Jessica’s hand and pleadingly begged, “Mama, hungry.”

They arrived at the banquet ages ago, and all Winson ate was a strawberry she fed him earlier since they were interrupted by those ladies. Jessica saw her son’s pleading face and resigned to picking him up and leaving the conversation to get some food for him.
