Chapter 60

Jessica walked closer to Blake and put the towel on his short, stiff hair, and started rubbing it.

He was a strange man indeed. There was a hairdryer in the room which could dry his hair faster and more conveniently, yet he did not like the buzzing noise, hence she had to resort to the old-fashioned way.

Blake looked at the laptop screen and said, “Come with me tomorrow.”

Jessica’s hands froze. She did not sign anything or whatsoever. All she did was stare at his messy short hair.

Did she hear him wrongly?

Blake noticed that her hands had stopped. When he turned around, he saw that she was petrified, so he asked, “What’s wrong? Can’t you understand what I said?”

Jessica really did not understand what he meant. She thought she heard it wrong, but when she saw his impatient look, she was certain that she got it correctly.

Something similar had happened in the past before, and it had traumatized Jessica deeply.

There was an event to which the husband and wife had been invited to attend together, but when Blake saw that Jessica wanted to get changed for the event, he had commented, “You don’t need to go. You will only embarrass me and make me a joke at the event.”

Jessica had broken down in tears after hearing those awful words. Upset, she had locked herself in her room and cut the dress into pieces. Of course, no one took her seriously no matter how upset or sad she was.

She had learned her lesson ever since then and never dared to assume that she was needed. Whenever she saw an invitation with her title or name on it, she would instinctively ignore it.

As time went by, she understood why Blake would say something like that. What would others feel or think when they saw her and Blake together?

On the bad side, either Blake or she would be treated as a joke. On the flip side, at least, her name was written on the invitation. Even though it was mostly because of the Fergusons’ status, she was still acknowledged as the legitimate Mrs. Ferguson.

Therefore, when Blake asked her to attend Kim’s party, she was completely stunned.

What did he mean?

Blake looked at her blank expression. She looked like she was in disbelief and resisting the idea at the same time. Her eyes looked like she was having an internal struggle.

Truth be told, Blake was also surprised by his own decision.

Based on his usual thoughts, Jessica did not have to show up in front of those people, and he resisted the idea of being in the same public event with her, especially at dinners and gatherings.

When he saw the invitation, he had completely ignored the question. However, when he was in the bath, the scene of her at the aquarium had popped up in his mind. The way she spaced out and the fishes that swam around her somehow altered his thoughts and decision.

Blake still felt uneasy and strange when he saw Jessica’s blank gaze. He awkwardly averted his gaze and then cleared his throat with his fist covering his mouth. He said embarrassedly, “What are you staring at?! Remember to dress up tomorrow!”

He turned around and signed her to continue drying his hair.

Jessica did not do as she was told. She put the towel on the table and walked to his side to sign, “I don’t want to go.”

Blake looked gloomy right away as he stared at her.

She had gotten upset and cut the dress up when he had told her to not go. However, when he was telling her to go with him now, she was refusing to?

Was she getting on his nerves on purpose?

Jessica puckered her lips and smiled bitterly. When she made sure that she had not heard him wrongly earlier and that he really was asking her to attend the party with her, she thought that she would be happy. On the contrary, she turned out to be surprised without being happy.

In the past, she had tried so hard to make herself look normal so that no one would look at her differently. She wanted to be able to attend any kind of event without making someone embarrassed or be in a difficult position as she did not want to shame anyone.

However, it was just her one-sided thought because even her own blood viewed her as an embarrassment.

Blake was just being straightforward when he said he did not want her to embarrass him.

After living with the Fergusons for more than two years, she had it figured out, and her heart within had already melted away like a piece of candle.

Other men would take pride in their wives’ looks, background, talents, and love life, but what about her?

She brought shame to the Fergusons, and despite being a Ferguson, it was not enough to change that fact.

Besides, Kim had come by in the morning and insisted that she attend the party. Who knew what the woman had in her mind?

“I don’t have any suitable dresses,” signed Jessica. It was the most appropriate excuse that she could come up with.

As a matter of fact, ever since Blake forbade her to attend any kind of public event, the beautiful gowns and dresses had been eradicated from her closet. Every piece was thrown into the garbage.

Blake raised a brow at her. He knew what she was thinking based on the expression on her face.

Jessica did not want him staring at her face, so she turned around, but Blake reached out to her. He pinched her chin and forced her to look at him.

He stared into his eyes with a twitch at his mouth.
