Chapter 53

“What’s wrong? Is your bed at home so stiff that you have to come here to sleep on my chair?” Moses kicked Blake softly.

“I must say, if you want to sleep, go inside and sleep properly. I don’t have mermaids in my pond for you to fish.”

Blake was not asleep at all. He was just relaxing his mind.

“I’ll cut your leg off if it’s too itchy.” Blake glanced at the shoe mark on his pants and tossed the book at Moses’ leg.

“Tsk, grumpy man. Are you not satisfied with your sex life?” Moses dodged the book and moved closer to Blake, resembling a mischievous imp trying to pluck the tiger’s whisker. “What’s wrong? Can’t the little mute girl satisfy you?”

Blake glared at him and pushed his disgusting face away. He said in an upset tone, “I’m fine, thank you!”

Moses dug his ear and staggered backward, falling back on the chair. “Okay, okay, I get it. You don’t need to be this loud.”

The rustling of footsteps sounded behind Moses. It was actually a pair of indoor slippers being dragged across the soft grass.

Frank was one of Moses' guests last night and also one of Blake’s good friends. He tapped Blake’s shoulder and sat down on the other side. Then, he twisted open a bottle of water for a quick gulp before he said, “I heard you dropped by early in the morning. Why didn’t you come by last night?”

Last night, several of them had gotten together for a little party, and while Blake had gotten the call to attend, he had not answered.

On the other hand, Moses stretched his legs and leaned back on the chair. He said in a strange tone, “This man here is having fun with his wife and son. You are no longer interesting to him.”

Blake did not even answer. He lazily reeled in his rod, but there was nothing on the other end except for the bait.

“Moses, are all your fish in the pond dead. I can’t get anything.”

Moses looked at him and said, “Master Blake, what happened at home that made you come all the way here just to act like a child?”

Blake had been fishing for the whole morning but got nothing except for the autumn breeze. He did not know why he was frustrated, but he ultimately blamed it on Jessica.

In a sullen mood, he lifted his thin lips and said, “I’m not talking to her now.”

Moses got extremely excited when he heard what Blake said as if he was pumped by an adrenaline boost. He said loudly, “What in the world? Not talking to her? Her who?”

Blake glared at him angrily and almost poked the man with his fishing rod.

Frank grinned and said, “Stop toying with him. Can’t you see that he is in a bad mood?”

Then, he looked at Blake and asked, “What’s wrong? I heard from Joe that you told him to check on Thomas Wayne.”

Jane, Joe’s sister, had failed to court Blake back then but ended up with Frank who must have gotten the bits and pieces of news from Jane whose brother was in the grapevine.

Blake got furious when he heard the name Thomas Wayne.

Despite the b*stard knowing that Jessica was his wife, he still approached her and asked her to help with some lousy app! He was practically asking for trouble!

Jessica was being stupid. Thomas obviously had a hidden agenda with his project, yet she called the b*stard her friend. It made Blake so angry that he wanted to strangle her.

In order to not strangle her in her sleep, Blake had gone out early in the morning.

Blake then told his friends about the man and how he had approached Jessica. He then added, “I never noticed she was this good at attracting flies.”

The servants at the estate served them breakfast. Moses shoved a piece of fresh strawberry in his mouth. He said as he chewed, “I think you are being a jealous husband here. Have you fallen for that little mute after spending two years with her? Is that really what’s happened?”

Everyone knew how Blake and Jessica had ended up together, and they knew he had never treated Jessica as a person. Ultimately, the whole world did not place any hope in the pair.

After Moses spoke in an incredulous tone and emphasized on a certain word, he then awkwardly glanced at his friend.

Blake exhaled furiously. Impossible!

The woman bore the title of Mrs. Ferguson, thus he could not allow her to do something shameful to insult their name.

Moses looked up to the blue sky and sighed. “I didn’t expect mutes to be this popular now. The world sure has changed.”

He looked at Frank and started to rub his chin. “Do you think I should change my preference?” Moses was the standard rich playboy. Wherever he went, women would follow.

Frank said with a smile, “You’d better forget about it. But I have to say, a mute that looks that good and is talented is quite rare, especially when she comes from a decent background.”

Blake was already in a sour mood, yet his friends were making him feel even worse.

Jane woke up late, but because she cared about her image unlike the men, she put on makeup and came out at the same moment she heard Frank’s words.

“Who are you talking about? Who looks good?” She sat on Frank’s lap and subtly hinted to him.
