Suzy clutched the cheque in her hand tightly. Fletcher’s cold and dark face appeared in her mind. Why did he pick her? Whatever the reason, the fact still remained—she needed a great deal of money for Ronald’s treatment.

Suzy wrestled with a dilemma. She’d earned this money after being humiliated by Fletcher. Did she really want to use it? If she did, there would really be no difference between her and a prostitute.

Suzy gritted her teeth and spoke slowly, “Fine. I’ll pay the fee as soon as possible.”

The truth was she was willing to even sell herself if it meant saving Ronald.

The next morning, she went to the bank. By now, the cheque was as crushed as a piece of waste paper. She paced up and down in front of the bank for a long time. Finally, she made up her mind and wrote down an amount on the cheque with trembling hands.

A million dollars!

“Hi, I’m here to cash a cheque!”

Suzy handed the cheque to the employee through the small window. Feeling anxious, her palms were drenched with sweat.

“Sure, miss. Just a moment, please!”

Fletcher was sitting in his luxurious office. His dark and deep eyes seemed indiscernible as he gazed far ahead.

His assistant, Nick Stace, walked towards him and respectfully reported, “Mr. Moore, we received a call from the bank. They told us that the woman is currently trying to cash the cheque.”

Fletcher narrowed his eyes and frowned slightly. His heart was filled with a deep sense of disappointment. So, Suzy was indeed a gold digger after all. Just for the sake of money, she could even sell herself.

“Mr. Moore, what should we do now? The bank is waiting for your approval.”

“Freeze it!” Fletcher’s slightly twisted lips showed how frustrated he was now.

“Understood.”

Nick left the room and closed the door behind him.

Once he was gone, Fletcher angrily shoved the documents on his table onto the floor. Suzy’s face appeared in his mind again. How shameful she was! How could he have not only remembered her for five long years, but even tried to look for her?

Back at the bank, the employee spoke to Suzy in a cold but polite tone, saying, “I’m sorry, miss. You cannot cash this cheque.”

Disheartened, Suzy immediately asked, “Why is that so?”

“The account has been frozen. You’re not allowed to cash it now.” The employee smiled apologetically at her and returned the cheque. “Here’s your cheque. Please keep it safely.”

Suzy’s mind went blank at that moment. She only recovered her senses after a long while.

Clearly, Fletcher was fooling her!

When she thought of all he’d done, her anger grew. First, he manipulated her body and took advantage of her for no reason. Now, he gave her a cheque which could not be cashed just to humiliate her.

How could there be a person as wicked as him in this world?

What kind of grudge did he bear against her? Why did he have to humiliate her like that?

Suzy aimlessly wandered the streets after she left the bank. She realized that if Fletcher had indeed used that cheque to embarrass her, then he might not come after her anymore. The thought of that possibility made her feel slightly relieved.

Taking a look at the time, she quickened her pace and hurried to the company.

“Lawrence is here!”

Suzy heard all kinds of exclamations the minute she stepped into the company. Everyone was so excited.

Why had Lawrence suddenly come here? In fact, he never cared about companies as small as theirs.

All the artistes in the company dreamed of one day getting themselves a rich husband like Lawrence, especially Yvonne. She aimed to marry into a rich and powerful family just like the one Lawrence grew up in.

On the other hand, Suzy desperately wanted to avoid him, because she did not want Yvonne to treat her miserably again.

“Suzy, where are you going?”

But, the undesirable incident happened anyway. When Lawrence managed to find her yet again, she did not manage to run away.
