42. Masquerade Ball- 1
Author: MiDdleBeNcherZz"Hey, Karrie. I hope everything is set for tonight." Scarlet's chirpy voice came through the other line of the phone. I let out a sigh before dropping myself on the bed. My mind was constantly playing tricks with me. At some point, I was pretty sure our plan will work out and I'll be able to gather as much information possible from Olivier about my parent's murder. But right now, I'm not having that much confidence to go on with this plan.
"I don't know," I mumbled in a strained voice.

A Perfect Distraction 46. Need him
It has been four days since Logan left for the business meeting. It may sound corny, but I’m already so dead inside without him. I miss him so much. I miss his muscular arms around me, those ocean blue eyes that would look at me ever so lovingly. I feel empty without him. The thought of him being miles away makes me down and depressed. I know I might be overreacting as he’s going to be back soon, but the past days without him were so melancholic and horrible. We talk every day, but it isn’t enough. Nothing is enough when he’s miles away from me. His voice just won’t make me feel complete again as his presence did. Never have I ever wanted something so much except him. I’m horrified at the realization that I’m starting to depend on Logan for everything.I was laying on my bed, lost in my world of thoughts. Mainly revolving around Logan. My phone started to vibrate and a smile spread on my face as the fami
A Perfect Distraction 45. Miss you already
Karolia's POV:The tension in the car was so thick that I could cut it with a knife. I didn't even have to turn my head and look at Logan to know there was a crease between his brows, his lips were pulled down into a deep frown, and knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel tightly. Logan was driving me back home as we left the ball half an hour before. Getting a lot of attention from the couples around us, Logan dragged me from the dance floor as soon as the barbie doll stormed off. We soon left the place, not even waiting for the dinner. I protested a lot telling I'll go back with Tyler but it was in vain. I'm angry at him for not informing me about the change in his date. I know he won’t take me as his date at any cost for this ball, but I’m angry and confused why he took Mr. Adam’s daughter who I felt like she’s trying to win Logan’s heart. It wasn’t mandatory to bring a date, at least that’s what I

Logan's POV:Everything was going as planned. Attending the ball, talking business, and waiting until the ball ends so that I can go back to my love and cuddle to sleep. This night would have been perfect with Lia as my date instead of Zara. I know my girl always dreamed of attending a ball like this, but for me, her safety is first. And this place isn't safe for her because of one certain person - Olivier.I'm also aware of the fact that she is angry with me, so I called her earlier before going to the ball. At first, she sounded fine and good, as if we didn't even fight. But eventually, she got it and tried to put on a tough facade. I felt something was off when I called her. I just couldn't figure it out. She seemed awfully fine that I was going to the ball without her. Considering her nature, I thought she would make it too hard for me. She can be pretty hard-headed at times. Even after coming to the ball, I had this nagging sensation to call

"I'll get you another one, ma'am." the butler said but I paid no heed to it as I was busy shooting daggers at that mysterious man whose back was facing toward me with the glass in his hand as he talked with some couple. God, didn't he see I was about to take it? It's spiked for God's sake and I don't want anyone to drink it except Olivier. I took a step closer to him, ready to argue with him for the glass, but I froze on my track as soon as I heard their conversation."I had a great time working with you as your partner, Mr.Watson,” The man said as the woman standing next to him smiled at him gratefully."It's been my pleasure." The thick familiar voice said. It was the same voice I wish I could hear again and again. So deep and thick. The voice belonged to none other than LOGAN WATSON, aka the person whom I should stay away from for tonight.I then widened my eyes as soon as I realized the drink was in his hand. Till now he didn't make a

I could hear her rummaging through something from the other side. Guess she is getting ready for the ball whereas I'm still in a dilemma. I took a shaky breath and clenched my eyes tightly before opening."I don't know whether I can do this, Scar. What if our plan doesn't work? I can't risk yours and Tyler's life because of me." I said as my eyesight became blurry. I held my breath as the other line went silent for
A Perfect Distraction 41. Invitation
(One month later) Looking out of this luxurious car window, I’m blessed with a wonderful view of snow-covered trees and pathways. Few people out in the avenue were warming themselves with heavy sweaters and jackets and children in the open park were trying to make snowmen or were hitting each other with snowballs.Turning the heater a notch higher, I rubbed my freezing hands together. I let out a sigh and relish in the beautiful scenery and the feeling winter emits out. I absolutely love the winter season. Being inside the house, slumped on the couch wearing thick sweaters, and a hot steaming coffee nearby with a really good book in your hand to read. There is nothing better to ask than that. That’s how I always used to spend most of my winter days, especially if I don’t have any work to do.But this time a certain blue-eyed devil named Logan freaking Watson decided to change my routine. I glared at him with all o

“Oh my!” Grecia immediately stood up from the couch, rushing to his side. “Mom,” Logan groaned loudly, wiping the blood from his lips. “Why are you up this late?” he asked an undertone of exasperation in his voice. Unlike the attire he was wearing

“Sit down” Logan ordered and walked to his black leather office chair. He shrugged out his black coat suit and hung it on the back of the chair. He’s wearing a crisp white shirt, a black skinny tie finished off with some tightly fitted suit trousers. He rolled his sleeves up to

“Ahem…Sorry for the interruption” Upon hearing Grecia’s familiar voice, we quickly pushed each other away as if we burn each other and looked at the person in front with widened eyes. My heart was still hammering against my ribs but now a lot faster. This feeling,

I dragged myself lazily to the kitchen. I opened the refrigerator and took a carton of milk and poured it into a glass. I then sat on the barstool in front of the countertop table. Staring at the milk, my mind drifted off to the morning event. It's been several hours since I have heard fro
