I looked at the school with a scowl. Even though I was running late, I couldn’t bring myself to go inside. I didn’t want to deal with Dean the Superman-wannabe. I couldn’t allow him to interfere with my status quo. He would ruin everything. My scowl deepened. Why didn’t Mom let me stay home? She was callous and downright neglectful when I told her I was sick this morning. Not only did she send me to school despite that I practically begged to stay home, she even went so far to claim if I felt too bad I could go to the nurse.

I didn’t stop running until my lungs felt like they would implode. I dropped to my knees, panting heavily and waiting for the black spots to disappear. My mind wouldn’t stop replaying the conversation with Mike over and over. Did Harry know what the alpha had planned? I stared up into the cloudless sky through the trees. No, he couldn’t know. Harry was a good person, despite being a werewolf. He’d never allow Dean to be framed to start some stupid war.

I looked at the sunlight filtering through the tree limbs. The numbness brought on by the Jack Daniels was gone. Now I was stiff with a damp ass. Damn, why didn’t I notice the ground was wet when I sat down? Standing, I stretched all the kinks out. I wondered if Missy ever got out of the woods. I sat on my bed, legs bent and my arms resting on my knees. Mom lectured me for nearly an hour before she let me go to my room.
