Chapter 1

Zaria's POV I saw her again.  She ran through the woods, crying and calling to me for help.  I couldn't move, the fear of being hurt had me rooted to the ground, as always.  I watched helplessly as the man in black overalls gained in on her and soon he was right behind her. He pinned her down with his body and an evil smirk spread across his lips.  The girl glanced at me one last time, her tearstained face sending a quiet cry to me, as she surrendered to the man. Before the darkness enveloped me, I heard the same words yet again, coming from the man. The words held venom like always, if not more than the last.

Chapter 2

Joel's POV The first time my parents told me we were moving, I had thought it was a joke and I didn't even expect that we would be moving to another state.  I loved Abuja. I had made so many friends here and my perfect school record didn't waiver. Why the hell did we have to move?  We got to Lagos a week before my new school was to resume and I had everything ready. I aced the online entrance exam and Dad got all the necessary things I would be needing for school. Mum had offered that I stayed in the boarding house so there won't be any distractions, but I was able to talk her out of it.  I sighed and got up from the bed to get ready for school. By 6:45am, I was already dressed in my new uniform. The uniform was way bet

Chapter 3

Zaria's POV Immediately we got out of the class, Lyla attacked me.  "What the fuck was all that about?!" She snapped. She was ten months older than I was and sometimes exercised that power.  In an effort to justify myself, I answered coolly, "I just decided to give him a piece of my mind that's all." "Zee, he is a new student for God's sake! Give him a breathing space, In fact what did he even do to warrant such attitude from you?" She asked me.  "He told the whole class that he is way better than me at everything." I blurted. Lyla stopped abruptly and stared at me like I had grown horns on my head.

Chapter 4

Zaria's POV The term moved faster than I expected and soon it was test week. At Limes Light, we had terminal test four times before the exams start. I had to keep my record intact and prove to Joel that I was still the best, so I had spent all of my time reading like no man’s business. We were all seated in class, waiting for the physics teacher to come in and start his test. I was chatting with some girls because Physics has always been a piece of cake for me, I wasn’t worried at all about it.  I looked around and my eyes fell on him. Him.  He was surrounded with girls and they all had their notes in their hands. It looked like he was explaining some of the calculations to them. I frowned, I had always been the

Chapter 5

Joel's POV "Dude, that was really cruel, you know." Charles said as we walked into the hall together. My parents were yet to come and Charles was going home on his own so we still had time for a little chat "What did I do wrong?" I feigned innocence.  "You know what you did wrong. You intentionally asked her about her score in public just to embarrass her." Charles replied. I looked at him and saw that he was a little annoyed. Then I remembered that he liked her.  I chuckled. "I didn't do it because of fun, Charles. I did it to put her in a place, something you guys can't do."  "Okay, maybe Zaria is a bit selfish and all, still you shouldn't have d

Chapter 6

Zaria's POV The fourth and final continuous assessment for the seniors students of Limelight was in form of projects and practicals. It was an initiative by the school to engage everyone in other activities that would help boost our grades. Except for the Commercial students. They still had to do written tests because there was no practical aspect in their field of study. For science and technical students, it was Chemistry practical. For Art students, their practical was in two forms; Visual Art and Drama. Some students pick Visual art while some pick drama. We were paired in twos for the Chemistry practical but till date we haven't been told our partners We were having a Chemistry class when the bell rang, indicating a cha

Chapter 7

Zaria's POV ...You have got to be kidding me.  "Will you come back here!" Mum yelled after me but I didn't even respond as I made my way to my room.  You guessed right. My mum and I just had a fall out.  Over Salt.  She slapped me because I mistakenly broke the jar of salt and I walked out on her, hence the yelling.  Typical.  I almost bumped into Sam on the stairs and immediately grimaced when he flashed his usually corny smirk at me. I made to pass by him but he held my arm, stopping me. I flashed him a glare.  "Get your hands off me." I warned him through gritted teeth and he smirked.

Chapter 8

Zaria's POV As I walked into my class Monday morning, everyone stopped whatever they were doing and looked at me. I didn't know what to do so I just went to my seat. I've been getting the stink eye from people since the show down between Joel and I and it has been nothing short of humiliating.  Lyla haven't spoken to me since last week and it's eating me up. Ada on the other hand has been giving me attitude. I knew she had a soft spot for him so it was expected. I tried calling them but they didn't pick up. At some point Lyla even switched off her phone.  Lucky for me, Joel didn't make do with his threat. He didn't rat me out to Mr Ajanaku and it even made me ten times more guilty.  Classes went in a flash and soon it w

Chapter 9

Joel's POV I have still not gotten over what Zaria did. When I even spoke to Charles and the guys about it, they were shocked. Truthfully, Zaria kept to her word. She stayed out of my way, basically acted like I didn't even exist and it was kinda annoying because I kinda missed all the attention she was giving me all in the name of a challenge.  I'm hopeless.  "Zaria did that?!" Charles exclaimed in awe and surprise. I was even more surprised that they were surprised. We were seated at the bleaches of the school stadium. Tyler wasn't with us. He was probably had himself locked up in the art studio.  "Why are y'all so surprised?" I asked them, watching their priceless facial expressions that

Chapter 10

Zaria's POV It was the weekend and the maids had it off so every household duty was left to me, Aisha and my mother. Fortunately Sam hasn't bothered me or tried anything funny since that night and I was glad about that. I don't know if I am strong enough to handle him. The last time I tried, it went ugly. As I busied myself with sweeping the floor of the kitchen as my mind subconsciously went back to what Joel has said the last time we had a "chat". He claimed he wanted to know me. The real me. I scoffed. Yeah, right. The real me isn't someone anyone should know about. Joel is harmless, I know but so are my other friends and they have no idea the tiniest detail what
