Chapter 6

Kiluaroth wasn't sure what he was to do with the many notes that littered the edge of his domain. At first, picking them was easy, reading through the contents was repetitive and seeing them, again and again, became irritating quite. When he became aware of the fact that he wasn't the only one stuck dealing with unwanted notes, his heart was put to rest.

Though the contents of the letter were enough to frighten a small god, he was one of the first, a part of the big three. A note like this wouldn't breed fear in his heart. Though he knew of the risks battling his companions, he thought of the outcome should they win. It means that still, they would be able to vanquish and say goodbye to the horrible humans who did such to their princess. Even now, years after it had happened, it was still a touchy subject to talk about.

Everyone was frowning at the situation.

Even the ones who shouldn't fear the outcome like Bathra was angry. I did understand their anger and somewhat underlining sense of fear even though I didn't agree with the situation. It's not easy to kill someone, killing someone you know is way more difficult, especially for us. We had been alive even before time for humanity began, we had lived together probably were even all formed at the same instance. To want to kill one another is something, to do it, is another.

'She's smart. I'll give her that but not too smart. She's aware that it would be difficult for us to sign off on this gamble of hers. We need lots of deliberation for we can't rush our decision. Personally, I think we should just kill her. We are more powerful than her, and there's no need to engage in such frivolous acts', said Zadra when nobody would comment.

Some nodded their heads, but I could tell that while we had grown to hate them the humans, no one wanted to take the life of an innocent, a real innocent. After all, she wasn't there, neither had she committed a crime punishable by death. Killing her would be a waste of effort and might stain our hearts. While we wouldn't have wanted to agree with him for his despicable attitude, he did tell the truth. I could tell that out of everyone gathered that Jacilis wouldn't agree with anything that they would say so seeing as she was about to speak, I kept quiet.

'I agree with Zadra about what he said.' Mind you at this point, everyone was staring like she had a second head as well as many limbs. We all began speaking over one another, but at a raise of her hand, we kept quiet.

'Just because I agree with him doesn't mean I think it is the best course of action. Ok, maybe that's what agreeing means, but you get my point. It would be easier to get rid of the girl but think about how that would make us look to the other gods and the humans. Yes, we hate them, but they still worship us, which is good for our egos. I think we need to be fair in our dealings with her. Also, I'm pretty sure every human knows of her presence here and if she dies, wouldn't that turn them against us. Even if we kill her, their turning against us will kill us.'

The woman of justice had spoken, and as usual, everyone paid attention. Her words of wisdom were what led to the peaceful cohabitation we all once knew a long time ago.

At this point, a lot of us retreated to our minds, having conversations with ourselves but still not reaching a conclusion. Killing her was going to be accessible even with the help of a god-like Arthuila whom everyone had forgotten. She planted the seed bruising our egos.

Also, though we deliberated for hours, some fights broke out, a few gods got injured, till the very end, no one knew the next course of action. I was just about to put the meeting to an adjournment when Anthuina raised her hand to speak. I hadn't heard her voice even once during the meeting, and technically she was the one responsible for the war.

'Thanks, everyone for your contributions and thoughts regarding this matter. I know it must not have been easy for any of us to have completely turned our backs on these lesser creatures we swore oaths to protect and care for. It is also not easy to hear their cries and still turn our backs on them. Thank you all for doing this for me, but maybe it's because of my job descriptions, but I want this to be fair for Nuala. I don't want us to die, but I don't wish for an end which would disgrace us before the rest of the gods.

She's a child I formed and gave to them and knowing what it feels like to give birth to a child myself, I don't want to kill her. Can't we just live in a somewhat state of peace with them? Do we have to kill them? Please, please don't let us kill anymore. The cries of those that died still hunt me even till this day. I'm tired and just want peace.'

There was no surprise to the tears that came falling from her eyes. It was surprising that she lasted this long. Unlike us that can cut off our ties with them, she remained forever bound to their whims, the goddess of fertility. And it hurt us to see her cry, but we couldn't let go off our hatred and need for revenge. Everything indeed started from her, from a mistake that only she made. Still, we loved watched as she came from the pocket dimension and taught her how to do what was expected. We were there for her first festival and when the humans, of which she had helped create destroyed her, we were still there. And even if she lies to herself that she might have forgiven them, we know the truth, and we would hold on to the anger for her. She has no need to worry.

What they did to her proved to us that humans are only good for one thing, breeding smaller humans and even that simple thing, they couldn't do well. Such a shame to think that we created them, and they thought they could get away with destroying one of us even if that child was less than us, he was more than them.

War Queen   Part 2 Chapter 7

Rain unlike anything they had ever witnessed (the cooking staff told me, they were a hub of exciting stories) came down from the heavens. The rain was heavy, so much so that it blew holes in many of the small huts on the palace grounds. In the beginning, children were still playing under the rain, but once it started getting heavier and even painful on the skin, leaving behind red marks, parents rushed their kids indoors and closed their doors. I was inside with Patenu, who I realised was afraid of rain. Her excuse was that she had never experienced rain, most times, all that would fall from the sky were little droplets, not enough to be classified as rain. What was happening outside and inside for some unlucky people was enough to send her to the farthest part behind the baskets of clothes shivering for dear life. I was looking o

Mother and father had left the room by the time I decided to open my eyes. The sun had shifted considerably which meant that I spent a long time in dreamworld but it was worth it. The only thing that did make me sad was the fact that I missed the ending of the tory and I doubted that father would want to continue. I was sure he was taking time out of his little breaks here and there to spend with me. I also knew that a lot of people were getting nosey and wanted to know what had happened to me in those years and what the future held for them. We couldn’t delay it even for spending time and obviously reconnecting as a family. Most people would not see it as a good reason to keeping them in the dark. There was a guard posted at my left once I opened the door. He nodded, went down on his right knee and put his left hand on his

Whenever it was time to get up, Arthy was always there shaking my body, tapping my leg or basically doing something irritating to jolt me up. Now in his place, is a cockerel who didn't stop making some noise since the sun broke through the horizon. I had just gotten up from bed when I heard someone calling my name. She even put the princess before it.'Princess Nuala, Princess Nuala… are you awake already?''yes, I am. You can come in now. What's your name?' the lady before me was beautiful. It was hard not to notice it. Her skin was the darkest I had ever seen, but one would have thought that because it was black, it would be horrible to look at but... I think it was because it was black that her skin shone the brightest. So gl

As she was placing the beads on my wrist, a few around my waist, some on my head and neck, my mother's eyes had gained some sparkle. She had finished putting beads on my body and began on my hair. She had brought a few more calabashes with weird looking colours, but who was I to complain.'You know, it is strange to think that your father is the leader of our tribe and he has only one wife and no consort. In other tribes, the leader can have more than one wife, especially if the wives only have daughters. But your father, stuck to only me. Even with the stillborn, the pregnancy scares. Even though giving you up for the world, your father has been a rock. I have mistreated him which I need to beg for his forgiveness but…' She didn't stop talking because she wanted too but instead because of the arrival of my father.

War Queen   Part 2 Chapter 2

During our walk to the palace, my parents fussed over me so much that though it felt stifling, I just couldn't complain about it. These people hadn't seen their daughter for over sixteen years, so I was sure they were trying to pack all their love and affection as well as everything good into the first few minutes' alone'. Now I put alone in quotation marks because their guards were around us and the looks on their faces were so scary I made a point to avoid looking in their general head direction. Instead, I focused on the land and the people coming out of their huts. While I looked healthy and like what a human should, these people looked like a small wind from above would blow them away. They too just like the family had tears falling from their eyes, and a few of them tried to reach me before the guards shooed them away. I coul
