Chapter 9: Fear

(RJ's POV)

The moment I left Layla's house, my body instantly filled with guilt and fear as I ran through the forest in my wolf form. The heavy rain beat against my fur causing it to stick to my body. The atmosphere was so dark it felt like the darkness was consuming me. Tears continued to leak from my eyes that were filled with fear and the constant sounds of Layla's pitiful scream slowly driving me insane. I ran and ran until I stopped by a nearby cliff where the moon was clear insight. Without thinking I let out a heart-wrecking howl that was heard throughout the forest before everything went dark.

(Mason's POV)

I was currently in bed snuggled up with my mate when I heard the Alpha's sorrowful howl causing both my mate and me to flinch. Without wasting another second I dashed out of my room getting an immediate link from Jason. "The alpha's in trouble," he said out of breath as he was rushing himself. "I'm on my way, Jason," I replied eventually making it out in the forest transforming into my wolf form. Soon, the howling stopped causing me to worry, eventually, I met up with Jason, who was just as worried as me.

"Do you have his scent?" I asked as he growled. "I do but it's also mixed with the flithy human's scent," he replied as the anger in his voice was really clear. "Now is not the time, Jason, we need to find the Alpha and take him back to the pack where it's safe," I said as he nods before leading the way. 

The atmosphere around the forest was different, it was much darker then usually as in the depressing dark. Jason and I were very worried about the Alpha as we quickly made it through the forest. The alpha's scent got stronger as we got closer until it led us to a cliff. Jason and I whimpered at the sight before us, there was our alpha in his human form looking all fragile and weak as he laid there with his arm hanging off the cliff. Jason and I slowly walked towards the alpha's fragile form with our heads hung low.

As we stood beside the alpha's fragile body, Jason sniffed it before an aggressive growl ripped from his throat. "If I ever find out that human had anything to do with the alpha's condition, I'll devour her without hesitation," he said in a harsh tone as I lifted the alpha's body onto mines before I sighed. "We know nothing, Jason, so leave the girl out of it," I warned as he scoffed before we head back to the pack. 

THE NEXT MORNING...

(Drake's POV)

I woke up as if it's an emergency as if sleeping had become a dangerous thing. My heart beats fast and there is a buzzing in my brain and together they are as panic with jump-leads. I slowly tried to sit but immediately lay back down as a felt an unbearable sharp pain throughout my body. The pain made my body tense up as my hands grip the bed sheets underneath me. "RJ! What's happening?" I tried to reach out to my wolf but it felt like he wasn't there. "RJ, respond to me right now," I commanded but felt no connection towards him. I began to panic, I tried to sit up again but the pain forbids me to down so.

I began to tear up as fear ran throughout my body since I couldn't connect with my wolf and I had a memory as to why I was in so much pain. Soon the door to my room opened revealing my beta and delta who looked so relieved to see me but immediately frowned after seeing how upset I was. "Mason, Jason, somethings wrong, R-RJ, I can't feel h-him," I said as I choked on my plead as they hung their head low. 

"Alpha,do you remember what happened last night?" Mason asked as a tear rolled down my pale cheek. "NO! Would someone t-tell me what's happening to m-me," I said as my voice became weaker and weaker. "Alpha, last night, the pack heard you howl, it echoed throughout the forest," he explained as I frowned not quite remembering what happened last night. "Do you know the reason why I was howling?" I asked but they both shook their heads. "Does anyone of you know why I can't connect with my wolf?" I asked as Mason  cleared his throat I began to get nervous. "The pack doctor said that your wolf has fallen into a deep slumber," he said as I frowned again. "What do you mean? I asked as he walked to settle down on the edge of my bed.

"The pack doctor said that your wolf did something that affected both you and him in a regretful and painful way, but it affected him more since he was in control," he said as my heart speed up as I thought of anything RJ would possibly do that would be this bad. "But what made him fall asleep?" I asked. "The guilt and fear were too much for him which made him pass out," he said as my heartache. "So my wolf is suffering for what he has done?" I asked but he avoided my contact.

"No Drake, your wolf is asleep so all the pain you are feeling is consequences for his action," he said as I saw out in space. I tried to run my hand through my hair as a habit but was instantly stopped by a shocking pain which caused me to groan. "But why can't I remember anything?" I asked. "The doctor said you are too weak, your mind is too weak to process any strong amount of thinking," he said but the one question I really need an answer to is. "What about my mate?" I asked as Mason sighed and Jason growled causing me to look at him as he bows his head in apology. 

"Jason smelt your mate's scent on you last night when we found you," he said as I looked at him praying she wasn't involved in this. "And?" I impatiently asked as my heart immediately dropped when I heard his response. "And we think she's somehow connected to this,"

(Author's POV)

The atmosphere around Layla's home felt almost like death. No wind was blowing, her house was closed up as if she had left for the holiday. But inside was dark and scary, no sound besides her breathing could be heard in the house, and in her room is where she laid almost lifeless. The little clothing she had on last night remanded on her body as the bite mark on her neck began to turn purple as the blood around the area slowly began to turn black. Her breath was slow and steady and her pale body was covered in a cold sweat, she almost looked like a corpse.

What was happening to her?
