Chapter 5
Author: Loren JayThe door hadn’t even closed behind Bellamy before Penny threw herself at Thea.
“What. The. Fuck. Tell me everything! We have to call Aggie, she has to know! Did he tell you what he is? How come he isn’t affected by me? What the hell does he mean ‘you’ve claimed’ him? How was the sex? Was it good? You sounded like you were enjoying yourself,” Penny winked at her.
“Oh my Gods, Penny, one question at a time, PLEASE. No we can’t call Aggie, it’s almost midnight in Milan and also Gross! I can’t believe you were listening to us,” Thea cringed.
“I can’t help it, I’m living vicariously through you,” Penny pouted. “Oh please, you had 2 guys over here last night!”
“Three,” Penny winked.
Thea just shook her head in response and went to sit on the couch. At least the smell of dead guy was gone now. Penny sat on the floor in front of Thea with her legs crossed like a kid waiting for story time.
“Okay, so first of all, he’s a witch. I can’t kill him because he’s from the Novem Vitae coven. I’m not sure if that means he literally has 9 lives or, if he’s immortal. Now that we’ve slept together and I’ve fed from him, he can resist my calling to a certain degree but, not completely.” Thea frowned and pressed her fingers to her temples. “What else did you want to know?”“How have you claimed him? Was it on purpose?” Penny was practically shaking from excitement. They had been alive for many millennia so, coming across something new or unknown was a big deal.
Thea frowned, “I don’t actually know, I’ll have to ask him.”
“So you’re seeing him again?” Penny gasped and threw her hands up to cover her mouth.
“Well yea, why wouldn’t I?”
“So that answers my next question then,” Penny grinned at her, her amber eyes glistened.
“What?”
“The sex was good,” Penny started thrusting her hips and moaning dramatically.
Thea rolled her eyes. “You are like a horny teenager!”
Penny fell backwards laughing.
“If you don’t shut up, there’s going to be a hoard of men trying to bust the door down!” Thea shouted through her own laughter.
Penny composed herself, a slight frown marred her otherwise perfect face and she pouted her lips.
“I’m not sure I like the sound of the whole nine lives thing, from our experience, gifts like that usually come with a price. I’d like to know how that came about and with whom they’ve made a deal with to acquire a gift like that.”
It wasn’t like Penny to worry about things but, she knew it was warranted. Witches were more often than not female so weren’t affected by their song. It had been centuries since they had encountered witches and there was still a bitter taste in their mouths about them.
Thea shuddered as she tried to shake off the memories.“I know, I thought the same myself, he assured me that he doesn’t want my blood but, he wouldn’t exactly announce it to me if he did.”
“Try not to worry about it now, it’s not like they can kill us,” Penny tried to shrug it off but, the quivering in her voice gave her fear away.
“It’s not like we can kill them either, we may not be able to die but, those witches back in the 1600’s damn sure made me wish I could.” Thea touched the scarred skin on her back where her wings used to sit.
Penny smiled sympathetically, “I can take you flying if you want? I haven’t opened my wings in a while and you don’t start your shift for another few hours.”
Thea shook her head, “Nah, thanks but, it’s just not the same anymore.” Her wings were the one thing Thea adored about herself, it had been almost 400 years but, she still hadn’t gotten used to not having them and the scars still stung.“Want to grab something to eat before my shift?” Thea offered.
“Only if I can dress you up.”
Thea rolled her eyes, “Really, do you have to?”
“Come on, you’ve got a man now, dress to impress and all of that,” Penny hooked her arm in Thea’s and led her to her room.
“I’ve not got a man! I’ve got…a toy,” Thea shrugged her shoulders.
"If he was a toy, you would let me play with him,” Penny pouted mockingly.
“Ab-so-lute-ly NOT!” Thea glared at her.
“So, he must be your man then!” Penny giggled as she reached out to tickle Thea.
“C-mon, let me dress you up,” Penny pleaded
“Fine,” Thea rolled her eyes, “but, nothing too slutty.” She pointed a knowing finger at Penny.
Penny shook her head at Thea, “Thea, have I taught you nothing? There is no such thing as too slutty.”
“Well, well, well, look who decided to come home? And in yesterday’s clothes no less!” a hidden voice rang out through the kitchen.
“Hey Lissa, I haven’t missed anything have I?” Bellamy flicked his wrist towards the larder making Lissa’s figure materialise out of thin air. “P.S, you need to work on your cloaking spells, I could see your aura from a mile off.”
Lissa rolled her eyes at him, “Not everyone can be as good as you ‘la prodige’.”
Bellamy winced at her words, “Damn, your French accent is even worse than your spells.”
Lissa smacked him on the arm, “Hey, you know I would be a lot better if my mentor was actually ever around! What kind of big brother are you?” Lissa crossed her arms and pouted.
“You’re not missing out on anything, I suck at accents to,” he elbowed her and chuckled to his self.
Lissa’s blue eyes glared at him. “Lilah has been looking for you.”
A vein started to pulse in Bellamy’s forehead. “What the hell does she want?”
Lissa’s eyes twinkled with menace, she knew her brothers sore spot and she loved to twist her knife in it.
“Oh, she just wanted to go over the colour scheme for the wedding,” Lissa shrugged.
Bellamy’s fury grew, “What part of, ‘I am not marrying that psycho bitch nor will I join hertwisted coven to ours’ does no one seem to understand!” Bellamy slammed his hands downon the table, Lissa didn’t react though, she shared her brother’s reluctance to unite theNovem Vitae and the Tadhia covens. “Hey, don’t shoot the messenger!” Lissa held her hands up, “You’ll have to take up the issuewith the High Priestess.” Bellamy brows furrowed together, “I am not talking to mom about this, all she cares about isgaining more power, it’s fucking stupid and I’m not here for it.” He shook his head. “I’ll leave the coven before I do her bidding,” he looked Lissa in the eyes, “Lissa promise methat, no matter what happens, you won’t unite our covens, please. You have no idea whatthey are capable of, Lissa, promise me.” He grabbed hold of her arms and lowered his headso they were face to face.Lissa’s blue eyes glazed over with tears, “Bellamy, I promise you, I’m not as naïve as youthink, I know how they get their power, I want no part in that.” Lissa tried to swallow thelump in her throat. Bellamy nodded at her and kissed her on the top of her head. He held his sister close for amoment, he didn’t want to worry her. She was only 14, way too young to be roped intotheir mother’s agenda but, he knew that their mother would always get her own way, all hecould do was prepare Lissa the best way he can. “Why don’t I quickly get changed and we can grab some dinner? I can tell you all about thegirl I like and we can go shopping and paint each other’s nails and you can totally braid myhair,” he twirled a lock of hair around his finger and put on his best ‘90210’ voice. Lissa giggled and smacked him away, “You know, not every teenage girl talks like that!”Bellamy rolled his eyes at her.“Wait, Bellamy, were you joking about the girl? OH MY GOD, do you have a girlfriend?” Lissagripped his arms with an almost inhumane strength. “Jesus Lissa,” he wiggled his arms free of her grip, “when did you become the freakinghulk?” Lissa rolled her eyes at him, “C’monnnnn, tell me! Do you have a girlfriend?” Bellamy chuckled at her, “No, she's not my girlfriend…yet. Get dressed and I’ll tell you allabout her over dinner.” He gave her a gentle push towards the door. “Okay, okay, I’m going! But, I want details, I wanna know her name, what she looks like, what she does, oh, is she a witch too-““GO,” Bellamy interrupted her and pointed to the door, “If you’re not back her in 20 minutes,I’m leaving without you.”Share the book to

A heavy silence lingered in the room after Lissa and Alex left. Bellamy ran a clammy palm over his face and dropped down onto the couch with a sigh. Thea tiptoed over to where he sat and curled up next to him, she leant against his shoulder and peppered light kisses along his neck.“She’ll be safe Bellamy, you’ve done right by her,” Thea gently turned Bellamy’s head to face her. Tension was thick in the air as Thea helped Bellamy strap Lissa down onto Penny’s bed.“Is this really necessary?” Penny pleaded. “Removing my branding would be like trying to saw off my arm, we can’t bind my magic until after the brand is gone so, it’s the only way to keep you all safe and stop me from running.” Lissa tried to shrug but, the movement was limited to little more than a twitch due to the bindings around her hands. A shudder rippled through Penny, “This whole th
