Chapter 3

Author: Mu Han
Mitchell got up and slithered out of the room before he returned just moments later, pushing a wheelchair in front of him.

Yvonne saw who it was sitting in the wheelchair, and blood welled out of her eyes instead of tears as she shrieked throatily, "FATHER!"

Her rough voice no longer held the grace it once carried, and when the man in the wheelchair saw her, even he could not help convulsing in horror involuntarily.

Yet despite repressing his reaction to be nearly imperceptible, it failed to escape Mitchell's keen senses.

The tall young man's pupils contracted furiously as he grabbed at the scruff of Yancy's shirt, raising him from his chair before delivering a heavy blow to his face. "I knew it! You have been pretending all along, old man!" He glowered with fierceness blazing in his eyes in place of his usual demure reticence.

Mitchell had recorded how he mutilated and tortured Yvonne, and every time he showed it to her father, Yancy would persistently wear the guise of a demented senile man to prevent passing to him the wealth of the Stones and all its accompanying papers!

Meanwhile, the official will of the Stones would stand; in the event of the Stones'—Yancy, Yvonne's mother, Yvonne, and Zane—demise, the wealth of House Stone would be donated to various international charity organizations.

For this very reason, Mitchell refrained from murdering every member of the Stones, and thus, he could only resort to tormenting Yancy in the hopes of slowly crippling him mentally.

Yvonne watched as Mitchell beat her father, firmly jerking the cuffs that held her, causing the steel to bite into her flesh, rendering her wrists into a bloody mess. She roared in a raucous voice, "Stop it, Mitchell! Stop!"

Just then, Yancy clambered up to his feet, his knees wobbling madly, threatening to give way. In just three years, Yancy Stone, the number one neurosurgeon of the country, had become a mere shadow of his former glorious and impressive self. He now looked like a dying man, and with what final strength he could muster, he lunged for the surgical scalpel in Yvette's hand.

But Mitchell was faster. He dove in between Yvette and Yancy, sent a powerful kick at his foster father, and snatched the surgical blade from her hand. Casually, he marched to Yvonne's bed and slashed at her wrists mercilessly!

For two decades, he lived and grew up with the Stones. He had learned from Yancy himself how to sever a person's tendons without nicking an artery.

In just a few strokes, Yvonne's hands fell lifelessly by her side. She groaned with pain and suffering, watching through her bloodied eyes the morbid sight of blood dripping off her fingers and splattering onto the ground.

Those lean and slender fingers, which were once beautiful and graceful, were now bony and scrawny like the withered twigs of a dying tree.

At the other end of the room, Yancy, with a newfound burst of strength, clambered to his feet, eager to give his all in one last bout against Mitchell.

But with just another kick, he was sent down hard to the cold floor, panting for breath.

On her bed, Yvonne cawed desperately, like the death rattle of a dying beast, lamenting her inability to do anything but watch as her loved one was being tortured and humiliated to death!

"God in heaven!" Mitchell sighed. "Wealth is but only worldly vanity of man. Yet your father just seems to... cling so strongly to his money... I'm afraid we'll have to opt for the last resort..."

That could only mean taking hold of Zane; he would hold on to him until he reached adulthood. By then, even without the necessary documentation, Zane could still become the recipient of the Stones' wealth.

Mitchell would then coerce Zane to hand over the money! It would be a piece of cake! But he was unwilling to wait for another four years!

Mitchell thought of an idea, and he shot a knowing look at Yvette, who quickly understood him.

She left the room and came back, rolling in a barrel of oil, and Yvonne instantly realized what they were going to do!

They wished to burn them to death and destroy every shred of evidence of their murder!

Undoubtedly, the headlines the next morning about their death would read:

"Renowned Ushgulian neurosurgeon Yancy Stone was killed yesterday in a tragic accident as he was out yachting when his boat caught on fire. Along with him was his private nurse..."

Yvonne flinched and winced as gasoline was poured on her, and right when the first spark of flames began, she swore: "Just give me one chance! One more chance to reincarnate! I want nothing! I only want revenge!"

She had but one last worry; her 11-year-old little brother, Zane. No one knew what woe and suffering would await him, now that he remained nothing more than a mute imprisoned by the enemy who had betrayed his family.

Tears rolled down Yvonne's disfigured cheek as she struggled with the agonizing pain that spread through her very body and soul, while flames licked at her, burning her alive. With her ebbing consciousness, she breathed softly, "We're going, Zane... Me, Father, and Mother... I'm sorry we cannot be with you anymore... Take care of yourself... You need to grow strong... As long as you're alive, there is hope..."

The flames burned for an entire night before the yacht finally listed and sank into the dark depths of the dawn tide, leaving only bits of scorched-black flotsam and churning white bubbles in its wake.

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 51

Anger burned in her chest, but logic and rationality helped her to suppress her rage. She hardly feared death. But she knew it was the last thing she should seek. Not so much as to avenge her parents, but she needed to save her brother and also Ariel Norman, who had been missing for so long. She must live on, even if it meant enduring more humiliation.Yvonne looked at Damon. With a soft voice bordering on pleading, she spoke, "Then tell me, do I have any other options? I will do my best to achieve it with everything I have."For a fleeting moment, she wondered if she was seeing things. The corners of Damon's eyes twitched, which was an inexplicable charming and frivolous gesture, which appeared on his darkened silhouette. His voice resounded once more, nonchalant and yet alluring to her, "I only believe in two kinds of people. One, dead people who won't ever speak; and the other–"He lowered his voice as his breath meshed with hers, "–those that belong to me."That stunned Yvon

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 50

The air in the corridor seemed to be sucked away by the mere presence of Damon Brown as he drew closer. With each step he took, the air grew thinner and thinner, so much so that one could hardly breathe. She seemed even shorter in her bare feet and when she saw him towering over her, her heart plummeted in fear.Knowing full well what he was capable of, Yvonne knew that murdering someone to prevent secrets from being leaked out was not beneath the merciless Damon Brown.Judging by their expressions, they must have been discussing something very important; much more important in fact, than compared to the mention of Mitchell Cook's name she inadvertently overheard when Damon was on the phone.Yvonne could have sworn that she caught the unmistakable fetor of blood as Damon approached her. It was only then she realized that it was actually a small damp patch of blood that made her slip and almost fall. His blood. Her throat suddenly became dry and her voice came out with great diffic

Being in Damon Brown's residence, Yvonne knew she needed to keep her suspicions to herself.Damon and everyone else did not appear for lunch. For the entire day until the evening, they were absent, leaving Yvonne wondering if they had gone out or were they simply too busy. She had dinner and decided to go out for a while."Is he still busy?" She moped quietly. The date of the robotics competition was nearing and her two-day absence would inevitably hamper her team's progress. The final slivers of sunlight sank into the horizon and darkness blanketed the sky. Yvonne strolled near the flowerbeds by the side of the estate's gate and saw to her surprise, a three-colored pansy blooming gloriously. With nothing else to do, she knelt and took out her phone to take a picture of it. It was then she heard the sounds of several cars racing from afar and screeching to a halt. She frowned as she looked up and saw the headlamps of the approaching vehicles and she quickly ducked into a dark corn

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 48

Yvonne could still remember when they were working together on the self-driving vehicle project; how the prodigal son Sully had dismantled the new car that his father had given to him, just so that he could study in detail the whole braking system. One of their teammates, a middle-aged breadwinner, grimaced and groaned about how Sully should have dismantled a cheaper car.Yet, Sully made the most out of the experience. In return for wrecking his own car, what he learned allowed the entire team to greatly improve their work efficiency.Yvonne looked slightly bewildered at her past catching up with her.An itchy-fingered Sully could not hold himself back any longer. With a silly grin, he cried, "Wow, you're great, girl! A fellow grease-monkey!"Yvonne felt a lump in her throat, her voice stifled by the flurry of memories of the times of their late-night hours together. "Together?" she asked indicatively.Beside them, Kyle Pegg did not need to be asked twice. He was already taking o

Then she recalled Damon working till late at night, even while battling a fever and the notion sent a sweeping chill through her."What is he actually?" she wondered. It was conceivable to guess that if the scandal was indeed proven to be true, their winning of the tender would be revoked and Damon would be able to secure it again. It was like taking revenge without tainting his blade with blood.Even with her cursory understanding of the man, Yvonne was certain that her guess was as good as the truth itself. Even if she was mistaken, Damon Brown could just as easily fabricate some proof to checkmate his enemies!"Have I provoked a monster that I shouldn't have?" Yvonne thought, wondering if she should put as much distance between Damon and herself as possible...What sounded like the rumble of an engine drew nearer, then she heard the voices of men talking.Suddenly she recognized one of the voices; it was a voice that made her sit up straight! She rushed out from under the sha

"Hmph. After being so badly injured and having spent such a long time in the water, he should be resting. Serves him right for having a meeting so late in the night."Yvonne sneered quietly to herself, feeling glad for some good news to go to bed with. She woke up to a bright morning the next day and changed into the new clothes that the servants had prepared for her before sitting quietly on the bed, trying to listen for any sounds from outside.Only, nothing could be heard. Everything was so silent outside that she could not even hear the patter of footsteps. She opened the door quietly and peeked out. Finding the door next to her room tightly shut, she walked down the stairs to the sitting room. The servants busy scurrying about in the kitchen saw her and politely greeted her, "Good morning, Ms. York. Breakfast shall be served right away.""Thank you," she said to them. One of the servants remembered something. She went out and returned with a little bag. "Ms. York," she said

It could only be surmised that this was one of Damon's private estates, for the same steely atmosphere emanated from every corner of the ranch estate.Almost every available room in the estate was adequately furnished without any excess furniture and that left quite a lot of empty spaces. She walk

Help came in less than a half-hour. They were Damon's men and Yvonne never expected them to be so quick. The rumbles of a helicopter's rotor from afar grew steadily louder overhead, swelling to a roaring crescendo as it drew nearer. Moments later, men appeared, surrounding them and when they saw Da

He could sense the softness of her touch through the thin layer of clothing and it was a tingly-cold sensation.Yvonne found the tools and quickly retrieved them, all this while avoiding his gaze and said, "I'll try."It was about three or four o'clock in the afternoon. Shafts of light from the su

"Give me time," he breathed into Yvonne's ear.Bare-chested, he leaned against her. She was still in her skirt, but she was wet, and the close proximity allowed her to sense the heat emanating from the man's body. Even more so, she closely felt the touch of a person of the opposite gender. Her for
