Chapter 2

Author: Mu Han
As the laughter of the evil couple loomed over her, Yvonne trembled with a burning hatred that ate at her soul. She spied a little knife sitting on the table beside, and she wrestled with all her might and snatched it before crawling over to them.

But before she could sink its blade into the traitor and enemy she hated so much, she was disarmed, and the knife was taken away by Mitchell.

"You lousy bitch! You wish to murder me?! Dream on!"

Seeing Yvonne bracing to bite him like some beastly animal made him lose what thrill he had in torturing her. Tenderly, he said to Yvette, "Let's continue this at home."

He dislodged himself from his lover and dragged Yvonne up like a ragdoll and tossed her back up into bed.

"All right then. Time to do what I came here for."

Yvonne convulsed wildly to shake free. But all the defiance would do little to help her against the strong and healthy Mitchell.

While he kept her pinned to the bed, Yvette emerged dutifully beside him to help him by using a pair of handcuffs to restrain Yvonne's hands to both sides of the bed.

Mitchell twirled the knife deftly between his fingers and lamented mockingly, "If only Father could see this, Yvonne; his surgical knives being used to sever the tendons in the hands of his own daughter. I wonder how he would look."

On the bed, Yvonne struggled against the cuffs that shackled her, her one and only eye so blood-red as if tears of blood would ooze out at any moment.

She was the treasured daughter of House Stone of Ning City. 20 years ago, her father had taken in a nine-year-old Mitchell Cook and took care of him like he was one of his own.

And as a boy, Mitchell had always been a good and loyal son to the Stones, with more love and care for Yvonne, who was two years his junior.

Mitchell began his courtship of Yvonne as soon as they reached adulthood, and Yancy Stone, the patriarchal head of House Stone, was glad to see that his foster son would marry his precious daughter. When Yvonne reached 24, he arranged a marriage ceremony in honor of them both.

Yancy Stone, Yvonne's father, was the greatest mind in neurosurgery in Ushguli, and he also served as the Director of Ning City Neurosurgery Hospital.

Meanwhile, Yvonne's mother was the President of Atlantis Corporations, one of the largest private companies in Ushguli, which she had inherited upon the death of the males in her family due to accidents and mishaps.

Yvonne had one other sibling, a little brother that was 13 years younger than her—Zane Stone, now age 14. The Stones were once a prosperous and happy family.

That is, until three years ago, right after Yvonne's and Mitchell's engagement. She discovered Mitchell's illicit relationship with Yvette, which was when he revealed his ugly and truest self to her!

He had Yvonne bound in ropes, and he severed the tendons in her legs before imprisoning her in the cabin of this yacht.

Then he brought Yvette here, who then splashed concentrated sulfuric acid on her face!

Until this day, Yvonne vividly remembered the scalding burn that gnawed at her flesh and the excruciating pain she felt that day! A day of such infamy that she almost wished to die if only the pain would stop!

There she remained incarcerated until one day, a TV was installed, allowing her to understand what had happened in the outside world.

As it happened, she was reported dead. Out of grief for losing her, her mother killed herself by jumping off a building, but not before leaving Atlantis into Mitchell's hands.

Her father Yancy, upon losing both his wife and daughter together, lost his mind overnight, and the No.1 Surgeon of Ushguli faded into twilight ever since.

Then she saw the news about Mitchell's meticulous exterior; he turned into a lanky and haggard man as he "mourned" over her death. At one point, he even nearly died because of a fever that resulted from his "sorrows". Yet even after his recovery, he remained a recluse who shied away from the limelight, putting up a convincing facade of his great love for his fiancée and the family who had nurtured and cared for him all his life!

Mitchell continued paying to take care of his deranged foster father, including his foster brother Zane, who, in one single night, lost his ability to speak after the terrible pileup of misfortunes that befell his family one after another. Since then, Mitchell had remained single as far as the local news knew; a single man who had kept his heart locked up and the key tucked away.

Yvonne's eyes flashed with more growing hate every time she saw news highlighting the purported loyalty of the traitor, Mitchell Cook!

"You beastly monster, Mitchell Cook! Harm my father, and I will never forget this! Even after my death, I shall return to haunt you!" She growled warningly like a cornered beast.

Yet she felt only pain and suffering at her exertions, and Mitchell seemed unfazed by the meaningless threats.

"I see. You miss Father?" He remarked, smiling with an extraordinary hint of malice. "I bet you wish to know how he is now. How about a long-awaited reunion?"

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 51

Anger burned in her chest, but logic and rationality helped her to suppress her rage. She hardly feared death. But she knew it was the last thing she should seek. Not so much as to avenge her parents, but she needed to save her brother and also Ariel Norman, who had been missing for so long. She must live on, even if it meant enduring more humiliation.Yvonne looked at Damon. With a soft voice bordering on pleading, she spoke, "Then tell me, do I have any other options? I will do my best to achieve it with everything I have."For a fleeting moment, she wondered if she was seeing things. The corners of Damon's eyes twitched, which was an inexplicable charming and frivolous gesture, which appeared on his darkened silhouette. His voice resounded once more, nonchalant and yet alluring to her, "I only believe in two kinds of people. One, dead people who won't ever speak; and the other–"He lowered his voice as his breath meshed with hers, "–those that belong to me."That stunned Yvon

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 50

The air in the corridor seemed to be sucked away by the mere presence of Damon Brown as he drew closer. With each step he took, the air grew thinner and thinner, so much so that one could hardly breathe. She seemed even shorter in her bare feet and when she saw him towering over her, her heart plummeted in fear.Knowing full well what he was capable of, Yvonne knew that murdering someone to prevent secrets from being leaked out was not beneath the merciless Damon Brown.Judging by their expressions, they must have been discussing something very important; much more important in fact, than compared to the mention of Mitchell Cook's name she inadvertently overheard when Damon was on the phone.Yvonne could have sworn that she caught the unmistakable fetor of blood as Damon approached her. It was only then she realized that it was actually a small damp patch of blood that made her slip and almost fall. His blood. Her throat suddenly became dry and her voice came out with great diffic

Being in Damon Brown's residence, Yvonne knew she needed to keep her suspicions to herself.Damon and everyone else did not appear for lunch. For the entire day until the evening, they were absent, leaving Yvonne wondering if they had gone out or were they simply too busy. She had dinner and decided to go out for a while."Is he still busy?" She moped quietly. The date of the robotics competition was nearing and her two-day absence would inevitably hamper her team's progress. The final slivers of sunlight sank into the horizon and darkness blanketed the sky. Yvonne strolled near the flowerbeds by the side of the estate's gate and saw to her surprise, a three-colored pansy blooming gloriously. With nothing else to do, she knelt and took out her phone to take a picture of it. It was then she heard the sounds of several cars racing from afar and screeching to a halt. She frowned as she looked up and saw the headlamps of the approaching vehicles and she quickly ducked into a dark corn

The Resurrected Sweetheart   Chapter 48

Yvonne could still remember when they were working together on the self-driving vehicle project; how the prodigal son Sully had dismantled the new car that his father had given to him, just so that he could study in detail the whole braking system. One of their teammates, a middle-aged breadwinner, grimaced and groaned about how Sully should have dismantled a cheaper car.Yet, Sully made the most out of the experience. In return for wrecking his own car, what he learned allowed the entire team to greatly improve their work efficiency.Yvonne looked slightly bewildered at her past catching up with her.An itchy-fingered Sully could not hold himself back any longer. With a silly grin, he cried, "Wow, you're great, girl! A fellow grease-monkey!"Yvonne felt a lump in her throat, her voice stifled by the flurry of memories of the times of their late-night hours together. "Together?" she asked indicatively.Beside them, Kyle Pegg did not need to be asked twice. He was already taking o

Then she recalled Damon working till late at night, even while battling a fever and the notion sent a sweeping chill through her."What is he actually?" she wondered. It was conceivable to guess that if the scandal was indeed proven to be true, their winning of the tender would be revoked and Damon would be able to secure it again. It was like taking revenge without tainting his blade with blood.Even with her cursory understanding of the man, Yvonne was certain that her guess was as good as the truth itself. Even if she was mistaken, Damon Brown could just as easily fabricate some proof to checkmate his enemies!"Have I provoked a monster that I shouldn't have?" Yvonne thought, wondering if she should put as much distance between Damon and herself as possible...What sounded like the rumble of an engine drew nearer, then she heard the voices of men talking.Suddenly she recognized one of the voices; it was a voice that made her sit up straight! She rushed out from under the sha

"Hmph. After being so badly injured and having spent such a long time in the water, he should be resting. Serves him right for having a meeting so late in the night."Yvonne sneered quietly to herself, feeling glad for some good news to go to bed with. She woke up to a bright morning the next day and changed into the new clothes that the servants had prepared for her before sitting quietly on the bed, trying to listen for any sounds from outside.Only, nothing could be heard. Everything was so silent outside that she could not even hear the patter of footsteps. She opened the door quietly and peeked out. Finding the door next to her room tightly shut, she walked down the stairs to the sitting room. The servants busy scurrying about in the kitchen saw her and politely greeted her, "Good morning, Ms. York. Breakfast shall be served right away.""Thank you," she said to them. One of the servants remembered something. She went out and returned with a little bag. "Ms. York," she said

It could only be surmised that this was one of Damon's private estates, for the same steely atmosphere emanated from every corner of the ranch estate.Almost every available room in the estate was adequately furnished without any excess furniture and that left quite a lot of empty spaces. She walk

Help came in less than a half-hour. They were Damon's men and Yvonne never expected them to be so quick. The rumbles of a helicopter's rotor from afar grew steadily louder overhead, swelling to a roaring crescendo as it drew nearer. Moments later, men appeared, surrounding them and when they saw Da

He could sense the softness of her touch through the thin layer of clothing and it was a tingly-cold sensation.Yvonne found the tools and quickly retrieved them, all this while avoiding his gaze and said, "I'll try."It was about three or four o'clock in the afternoon. Shafts of light from the su

"Give me time," he breathed into Yvonne's ear.Bare-chested, he leaned against her. She was still in her skirt, but she was wet, and the close proximity allowed her to sense the heat emanating from the man's body. Even more so, she closely felt the touch of a person of the opposite gender. Her for
