Chapter 4.

' I'd like this time to be different, we must talk.' What does that even mean?.

Does he mean we become friends?

Oh no, that could be bad, dangerous even. I mean how could that work, when suddenly we became friends? He , the returnee and I , the recent student. It could create attention , one I don't need, especially concerning my life. It would only be a matter of time where there'll be mishaps, and someone picks up on us actually knowing each other, then the questions start.

Gosh, this just seems quite complicated.

" Sky - lar !" I almost jump out of my skin at the loud voice near my ear.

" What?"

" You've been zoning out for most of the time we've been here...what's up with you?" Lucia asks.

" Nothing, I just have a lot on my mind today.."

" Like what?" She perks up.

" Lucia stop prying." Mk warns, relieving me but I believe she senses my relief. I see her watching me with the corner of her eye.

" It's not prying when it's your friend, I just want to know what's gotten her so - "

" Even if that's the case.....if Skylar has something that's bothering her, she'll tell us if she wants to."

" Fine whatever.....anyway, I need to check up on Charlie. Add more chips please." Lucia says, rising to her feet to call Charlie.

Leaving me with a very attentive Mk.

" I'll get the chips." I say, rising to my feet and heading to the kitchen.

" So what's up?" I hear Mk ask behind me.

" What happened to not prying?" I ask, turning around with two packets of chips.

" Okay okay......I just- does this have anything to do with Reece Cullen?"

I swear my heart nearly drops right then and there.

" What does Reece Cullen have to do with anything?" I frown at her.

" I don't know, it's just that ha..."She sighs."  thought you started acting weird when he showed up."

Oh my, was I that noticeable? Gosh I'm  bad at pretending.

" But you heard what the school nurse said, I don't understand why - "

"It's just that I thought I saw , you know what, never mind.....let's get back to some homework." She says, gesturing to the living room.

I nod, letting her lead the way.

Settling back down on the floor, a hand covering mine draws my attention." Can I ask you one last thing?" Mk says.

" Sure " I hope it's nothing I can't answer.

" Do you and Reece happen to know each other?" Oh, just the question I needed. Note the sarcasm.

Just before I can say anything , Lucia comes bouncing up and down, both interrupting and saving me." Why are you so happy?" I ask.

" Oh my baby is well and tomorrow I don't have to be stuck with you two." she says, flipping her hair.

" Hey !' Both Mk and I fake hurt.

Lucia playfully rolls her eyes, grinning at us. " Oh shush. You know what I mean, sometimes a girl needs her man beside her."

" Actually we don't know..... Some of us don't have and don't need one." Mk challenges.

" Oh say that now and before you know it, you'll be an old grey lady with 25 cats."

" Hey! I will be a successful entrepreneur."

" With 25 cats." Lucia adds.

" I hate cats."

And that is how the rest of the afternoon goes, them bickering and always finding something to make a point out of . I should be the referee but I can't help but laugh at them, it's quite entertaining and almost makes me forget about our last conversation.

I'm just not ready to open up, about such a big chapter in my life, somethings one needs to be prepared, for when questions come. Honesty with no hesitation and no over thinking goes a long way , and I haven't arrived gotten to that place yet.

Scrunching my nose in disgust, at the sight in front of me. Oh gosh the PDA is just too much for my eyes, seriously.

"Urgh stop already, we get it, you two missed each other." Mk finally speaks up, her expression no better than mine.

The two finally break apart and one smirks right at us. Lucia.

" Hey don't be jealous, I could get you a boyfriend, just give me the word." She says, leaning into Charlie's awaiting arms.

" No thank you..." Mk says, shuddering in whatever thought she has in mind.

Closing my locker and turning to my friends, I decide to tease Lucia a bit. " so Charlie.....the one day you don't feel well is the day where everything in this world fell apart, right Lucia?" I dramatically place a hand against my chest, displaying a frown on my face.

" What ?" Charlie says, clearly confused.

" Yeah....Lucia couldn't stop crying, I mean you should have heard her, ' oh my Charlie, when will you be back?" I bend over slightly for effect, giving Mk a glance over where her expression changes, once I discreetly wink at her.

" Hey I - " Lucia starts, about to defend herself when Mk takes over. " yeah...you should have seen her, it's like she lost her precious, oh what a lost puppy she was." Mk pats Lucia's head like she's a child.

Lucia, shoves Mk's hand away and folds her arms, a blush paints on her cheeks and it's enough to make me want to burst out laughing. I've never seen someone so red like this before.

Charlie turns to Lucia, who's gaze is down, a smirk plays at his features.

" So babe....you missed me that much huh?."

" Oh don't flatter yourself, you aren't that special" she grumbles, kicking invisible rocks.

" Oh well I mustn't have been worth all the declarations of love I received last night, you know, the video?" All of us perk up at that.

Mk and I , out of interest while Lucia looks like a gawking fish.

" What video?" Mk asks, a glint already in her eye. Oh lord help this girl.

" There's no video, Charlie's just kidding." Lucia quickly jumps in, trying to grab Charlie's phone, but he holds it out of reach.

" But what about when you said , baby I miss you, my honey bun, my -  ow!" Charlie cries out , having been stomped on his foot by Lucia, who glares at him.

" I can't believe you Charlie....you know what, you'll be kissing this hand from now on. Oh wait, the only me you'll be seeing is the one in the video...ba - bye" she says, already stomping away.

" So you admit there is one?! " Mk calls after her, though she doesn't respond.

" Babe wait !" Charlie calls after her, rushing after her.

Mk comes round to stand in front of me." I so want that video."

" That's private." I warn, pointing my finger at her.

" Pfft please....I - " she stops mid sentence when her eyes move behind me.

" Incoming." she discreetly says, pretending to be looking around.

Before I can ask what she means, a hand makes contact with my shoulder, totally surprising me.

I turn around to face the person, but my mouth runs dry. Standing in front of me is Colton Davies.

Why is Colton Davies's cute self standing here, in front of me right now? 

Now Colton is one of the few guys I appreciate looking at. A nice guy, good looking with dirty blonde hair, dreamily tall with black jeans and a blue and white shirt, ending the look with black and white converses.

I don't really pay much attention to them but I totally appreciate when someone looks good.

" Hi Skylar." He says with his low and almost husky voice.

Gosh, this guy seems to be blessed with everything. The type of voice that draws you to attention.

" Hh hi" I almost squeak out, so I clear my throat and I start again." Hi"

" Um I know we don't really know each other, I mean, we've never really talked....but I'd really like to ask something of you." My eyes widen a bit when I see a hint of pink on his cheeks.

Is he nervous?

" Oh uh okay ?" I say, feeling slightly awkward.

His eyes move over to Mk, who pretends to be interested in something, that's on her phone right at this moment, but I know very well that she's listening in on our conversation. Nosy much.

Averting my eyes back to him, I'm taken a back by how close he is now. Being frozen in place, I watch him carefully as his eyes lock with mine.

Wow, I've never seen such blue eyes.

" Could we meet at break?" What ?

" Oh sure...but um, is there something wrong?" I ask , frowning now.

" No, no..I -" he stops mid sentence when his eyes avert somewhere else. " Hey Reece, come here a for second." Wait what?

I'm surprised that I don't trip over my feet when I spin around, to see none than Reece Cullen , making his way over to us. In the corner of my eye, I notice Mk perk up too.

" Hey what's up ?" Reece breathes out, giving Colton a bro hug, before glancing towards me. His brows scrunch up together before he fixes his composure.

" Hey man, I wanted to introduce you to Skylar ." Connor says , gesturing to me.

I don't miss the emphasis he uses in my name, like there's a secret meaning to his words. What's going on.

" I know....we know each other." Reece quickly jumps in, and I swear my heart drops to my feet.

Oh no, what has he done?
