Chapter 1 The First-Ranked Affluent Family

At the entrance of Mystique KTV.

As soon as Tyler Zand parked the car, he saw his sister-in-law Rosalyn Leighton.

This girl had a youthful and pretty appearance. Today, she had put on some light makeup and looked even more charming.

“Rosalyn, get in the car. Mom is waiting for you to get dinner started.”

Tyler got down and opened the car door. One of his legs was not functioning properly and looked very strenuous.

“Oh, isn’t this the crippled brother-in-law of Rosalyn? What an honor to finally meet him.”

“He’s 1.6 meters tall when his left foot touches the ground and when it's his right, he’s 1.7 meters tall. So, his average height is 1.65 meters tall. Haha…”

“Stop laughing at others. It’s not easy being crippled…”

The young girls that came out with Rosalyn chattered and laughed happily.

Rosalyn turned pale with anger. Every time she met this useless brother-in-law, nothing good would happen!

Now, she was even ridiculed by her companions!

“Get in the car quickly! Didn’t I tell you to wait for me across the street?”

Rosalyn vehemently glared at Tyler before getting into the back passenger seats.

“I’m afraid it’s not safe for you to cross the road, so I drove over here instead…”

“Stop being so wishy-washy! My face has been completely disgraced by you!”

Tyler dared not speak anymore but drove away with Rosalyn.

It had been more than three years since he married into the Leighton family and his status was no better than a dog. He felt sad every time he thought about that.

“Mom, I’m home. Eh, who’s that?”

As soon as Rosalyn entered the house, she saw a girl about her age.

“Who else could it be? The cripple’s sister!” Susan Zimmer gave Tyler an exasperated look.

Towards this son-in-law who had no background with an indisposed leg, she simply could not look up to him.

“Oh, I’ll return to my room then.”

Rosalyn glanced in disgust at Tyler’s sister who was dressed shabbily before going back to her room.

“Nora, why are you here today?” Tyler looked at Leonora Zand affectionately.

“I didn’t save enough money for the tuition this semester…” said Leonora in a low voice with a flushed face while rubbing on the hem of her clothes.

“How much are you short of?”

“More than a thousand.”

“You just need to give me a call. Why did you come all the way here…” said Tyler as he glanced furtively at Susan, afraid this tigress would lash out at his sister.

Sure enough, the expression on Susan’s face had turned ugly.

“Here to beg for your next meal? How shameless can you be?” Susan glared at Leonora with her arms propped on her hips.

“Aunt Susan, I’ll return the money to my brother with wages from my part-time job. Please don’t be angry.”

“Return the money? With what? By selling yourself?” Susan smiled contemptuously.

“Mom, please don’t speak so harshly. You don’t have to pay for it. I have the money.”

Tyler forced himself to keep calm. He could tolerate no matter how he was insulted, but he could not bear it if his sister was abused.

“You have money? Hehe, what a joke. You’re eating and spending our money. You’re practically living off of this family. Where does your money come from?”

“I…”

“What? Apart from doing laundry and cooking, have you earned even a single cent?”

“That useless husband of mine was a fool for letting you in. Can’t you buck up a little? You don’t even have any talents and even got yourself crippled!”

“It’s bad enough to feed trash like you. Now, we have to feed a whole family of trash?”

“I feel really sorry for that beautiful daughter of mine. What has she done to deserve someone like you?”

After receiving a litany of insults from his mother-in-law, Tyler felt so humiliated that he could not utter a single word.

Not long after he married into the Leighton family, there was a problem with his left leg and he started walking with a limp and became a laughing stock to others.

“Ty, I’ll think of a way to pay for my tuition. I’d better go now.”

Leonora’s eyes were red as she rushed out of the doors.

“Nora!”

Tyler was so anxious he did not know what to do and hurried out after Leonora.

However, he stumbled at the front door due to the condition of his leg and caused a large bruise to appear on his forehead.

“How useless. Hehe, no wonder that wretched sister of yours can borrow money from you. A family full of trash,” chastising Susan harshly with her arms crossed she leaned against the doors.

“Who’s a wretch?” Tyler got up and shouted as he could not tolerate it any longer.

Susan was taken aback. For the past three years, Tyler had always been gentle and meek but when he got angry he was quite scary.

However, she very soon calmed down. “Oh, fighting back now? If you’re not willing to stay here anymore, get lost and make room for others!”

Tyler bit his lips in fury. He would leave as there was no point in living like a dog.

Worried about his sister, he quickly went downstairs and out to the streets.

How could there be any signs of his sister by now?

Grievance and bitterness welled up in his heart as Tyler sat in a daze at a secluded corner.

He raked his fingernails into the ground causing his hands to start bleeding, but he did not feel any pain at all.

After being chased out of the house by his mother-in-law, where else could he go?

With no academic qualifications or any special skills along with a limping leg, it would be problematic to even earn his livelihood.

Thinking about his beautiful wife, Ramona Leighton, Tyler really could not bear to leave her.

Even though Ramona also disregarded him and did not allow him to touch her for the past three years.

He was aggrieved but still had to solve his sister's tuition fees problem.

Unfortunately, those few hundred bucks he had worked so hard to save up was insufficient…

With a long sigh, Tyler took out his mobile phone and dialed a number which he had hidden in his heart for ten years.

When the call connected, Tyler simply reported his name and location before hanging up.

Two hours later…

A commercial helicopter that was hovering landed and a luxuriously dressed old man ran into the alley with his two followers.

“Young Master, it’s really the Young Master!”

The old man respectfully stood in front of Tyler with tears pouring down his cheeks.

His two followers were stunned and stood quietly aside in surprise.

Who would have known that the young man who looked like a poor beggar in front of them was the young master of the first-ranked affluent family who had been missing for the past ten years!

“Butler Quaid.”

“Young Master, that half-brother of yours has suddenly died from an illness. Your stepmother has also lost all her status in the Zand family, let alone being a threat to your life. The Old Master has given the order for you to be found. You’re the only heir to the Zand family now...”

Before Butler Quaid finished speaking, Tyler waved his hand and motioned for him not to speak anymore.

His stepmother had secretly plotted to harm him when he was a child, so he had no choice but to escape from the capital. This escape lasted for ten years!

He would have died of cold and starvation had it not been Leonora’s father who adopted him.

At that time, what was his biological father doing?

He was embracing his stepmother and pampering his stepbrother!

The kindness of his adopted father must be repaid.

After staying under the same roof with Leonora for several years, he had long regarded her as his sister.

As for his biological father as well as the wealthy and powerful Zand family, Tyler could not eliminate the barriers in his heart yet.

“Can you lend me 2,000 bucks? I have an urgent need for it.”

Tyler spoke calmly to Butler Quaid after some thoughts.

Ka-thunk!

Butler Quaid was caught by surprise and knelt before Tyler.

“Young Master, are you trying to test this old man? You’re the only remaining bloodline of the Old Master. Even 200 billion is not a problem!”

“There’s 50 million in this card. The Old Master specifically ordered me to bring it to you for your pocket money on your way back…”

Subsequently, Butler Quaid handed a black card over.

Tyler did not reject the gesture and took the card.

“Go back and tell my father to stop bothering me. I have a family, a wife, and my own life here.”

With that said, Tyler turned around and left limping.

Butler Quaid was dumbstruck at that sight. The Young Master’s invaluable body, his leg…was crippled?

“The Young Master refuses to return. How are we going to explain to the Old Master?” One of his followers was very worried.

Butler Quaid stared at Tyler’s retreating figure and took a deep breath. “As long as we know where the Young Master is…”

Tyler calmed himself down before heading towards the city hospital.

His leg was not an incurable disease. He just had no money to do so.

A venous thrombosis could easily be solved with a small surgery. Now that he had the money on hand, it was not a problem anymore.

Tyler felt much better after coming out of the hospital.

One could no longer notice him limping without careful observation. After a few days, he would be good as new.

A smile finally appeared on Tyler’s face. However, he was still worried when he thought of his sister.

Leonora had been working as a waitress at the Faircreek Seafood Restaurant throughout summer, so Tyler directly hailed a cab there.

As soon as he entered the restaurant’s main hall, he saw a heavily make-up young woman in professional attire standing in front of Leonora with an arrogant and pretentious attitude.

“Leonora, where have you been?”

Nadia Penrith questioned Leonard while pointing at her nose. She was the restaurant’s supervisor who disliked Leonora.

“Miss Penrith, school is about to start, so I went looking for my brother to borrow tuition fees…” Leonora was obviously afraid of Nadia as she answered softly.

“Did you apply for leave in advance? How can you just go out like that?”

“Miss Penrith, I couldn’t find you and your phone was engaged.”

“You poor little beggar. You don’t even have the money to pay for your tuition and need to borrow for it? It’s a failure for you to live like this. You don’t even tell me when you go out. Do I hold any position in your eyes?”

Nadia chastised Leonora but she was thrilled in her heart.

So what if Leonora was more beautiful and had seduced all the men? Hmph, she would take care of this person today.

Tyler quickly walked over upon seeing Leonora being scolded. “Watch your language. Why are you bullying her?”

Nadia scrutinized Tyler and snorted after seeing his cheap attire.

A poor fellow like this wanted to be a hero and save the beauty?

“Hehe, so what if I like bullying her? Do you have an opinion about that?”
