Chapter 9: Screwed up
Author: Nikka Anne"You're just too good to be true...can't take my eyes off you, you feel like heaven to touch, oh I want to hold you so much..." He grinned as he started to strum his guitar. I can see that he's good at playing it and his voice is really clear and husky.
I walked forward as I search where the sound is
I glared and frowned at him as I opened the lights of our kitchen. However, when I saw an old woman very proud of what he's doing beside her, I started to wave my hand and did an awkward smile.
The old woman waved back and smiled at me too. Is she his mom? I literally wanted to punch Gavin because of what he's doing right now. Serenading me and then getting a support system? My goodness he is not playing a fair game.
I hurriedly went outside. The singing kept on, with Gavin smiling sweetly at me and the one who accompanied him.
"Oh, she's a beauty indeed!" The old woman giggled as soon as I am near them. He even poked Gavin's arm with her elbows. I felt my cheeks reddened because of her.
"T-Thank you ma'am." I nodded as I met her gaze.
"My dearest nephew told me he'll serenade someone tonight. Well, I couldn't just let it pass."
"Ma'am, I do apologize for the inconvenience."
"What? It's more of a pleasure. I have to go with my nephew because I don't want to miss a thing."
I sighed as I smiled. I hope she will not misinterpret it as sarcasm, even if I intend to.
"Oh, by the way, please call me Georgina. I am Gavin's aunt." She offered her hand and I accepted it right away for a handshake. He only looked at us from a distance, looking really pleased.
"Ma'am, nice to meet you." I smiled but deep down, I want to melt.
"Yeah, me too. I never regret any single minute of being here...you know, seeing my nephew being in love is something I don't want to miss."
"Aunt..." He interrupted his aunt that made her giggle so much as she smiled.
Gavin then stopped singing and serenading me. Instead, he just stood there, smiling in front of me like I am the most beautiful scenery he's gazing at. I pulled his hand, he almost slipped his hand on his grip from his guitar. He was surprised that he did not see it coming. He simply blushed as he looked at my hand holding his.
"Ma'am, please excuse us." I smiled at her before pulling him farther from where her aunt stood. Those were fake smiles, by the way. I have to appear modest in front of her aunt. She's out of here and I don't want her to think that I am not liking her support.
"What is this all about?" I whispered near his ear, sounding really annoyed. He just grinned like he's enjoying everything he's doing.
He looked at my hand still holding his. Too embarrassed, I suddenly let go of him. He scratched his head in return.
"I missed you, that's why I am here."
"Are you crazy? Stop this nonsense will you?" I whispered as I looked at Ms. Georgina's direction. She seemed to be observing how the both of us talked. She's like a cute teenager shipping her favorite loveteam of all time. Oh, my goodness! I want to do a facepalm reaction, literally!
"What if I won't?"
I whined as I stomped my feet. I looked down as I closed both my hands. Everything he's doing is getting on my nerves.
"You know what, you looked like a cute tomato about to burst." He chuckled as I frowned at him.
"Will you stop this? I mean, this one. I don't allow you to go here at my place, right?
"Can you blame me? I want to see you so bad."
"See someone else, will you?" I tried my best to whisper so that his aunt will not think that I am arguing with her nephew right now.
"I will always visit you."
"I said, no." My voice raised a bit that his aunt gave us a puzzled look. I smiled and I gave her a thumbs up gesture.
"Please? Allow me, Rebecca."
"If you will not stop this nonsense, I will call the police."
"You can't do that..." He shook his head but I could see his smile eventually faded away.
"I appreciate the effort but you're wasting my time. You even bring your aunt with you. Do you know what I feel right now? I feel humiliated more than being happy from what you did."
His expression changed all of a sudden. It became serious and a bit melancholic.
"Before I will lose my patience, please go home now. It is getting late." I added as I held my chin high. When he noticed that I am not happy, he let out a loud sigh. His face was suddenly down.
"Is this what I deserve for going here?"
"I did not ask you to come in the first place."
"Do you want me to prove to you how I missed you so much?" She said as she grinned.
"Take another step and you'll be dead." I warned him but he just smiled. He looked into my eyes in a few minutes and he sighed when he noticed that I am not liking everything anymore.
"What will I expect? I will just do as you wish. We'll go home now. Just remember I meant what I said a while ago."
He walked past me as he walked towards where his aunt stood. I saw him whispering something to his aunt. I saw her nodded as she waved at me while showing her beaming smile.
His aunt is really beautiful and charming. Even if she looked old already, I find her cool. I consider her to be a night person. Her fashion preference is also amazing. She could be considered as a 'millenial" because she could relate to her nephew's outrageous ideas.
It's a pity that I am not in the mood to greet her, or even get to know her more. Maybe in another day or time? I am not so sure. What I want the both of them to do is to leave because it is getting late. I want them to rest instead of spending their time here.
I saw them walking towards their car parked somewhere far from where my house is standing.
I glanced at my wristwatch to see the time. It is almost quarter to eight in the evening. As I heard their car moving away, I can't help but to regret how I acted to both of them. I felt sorry for his aunt the most. I hope she'll not totally perceive me as rude or sarcastic but I have to do it.
I feel like I have to distance myself to Gavin as much as possible because if I don't, I will fall in love with him. That's the assumption that could happen any time soon I want to cringe.
I slowly entered the house, shoulders shrugged. I locked all the doors. Took a quick shower and went to my room upstairs. I laid on the bed flat on my back as I looked at our plain white ceiling. I started to draw a circle and inside it, a smiley in the air. What he said a while ago is like a melody playing inside my mind. It's like a noise that I don't want to hear and yet I keep on hearing anyway and, at any point, I am starting to love it.
Of all the pretty faces, of all people, why is it that I am the one he prefers to prank? I am getting more annoyed.
I closed my eyes because I badly wanted to sleep.
"I missed you, that's why I am here."
I opened my eyes as soon as I remembered what he said. Those lovely brown, hazel eyes. His pointed nose and his sultry, thin-lipped mouth that's too irresistible not to notice.
I found myself smiling because of what he said but a few minutes later, I couldn't help but remember my father and what he did to my mom. It was really painful that memories bring back all the hatred I had towards guys.
For me, they were all the same. They'll be only good at the beginning but later on, they will inflict you with pain that you could ever imagine.
I'm sorry Gavin. I really do. I never intend to hurt you but I also want peace myself. A phone call interrupted me with the thoughts in my head.
I glanced at the clock and it is already quarter to ten in the evening.
"Hello?" Without looking at the phone screen, I answered my phone with closed eyes.
"Rebecca? It's me, Gavin again." This time, I knew he screwed up for the second time around.
