Chapter 10: Part-time heartbreaker

She suddenly got up as she held her phone on his left hand and placed it on her left ear.

"Don't you want to stop?" Irritated, she tried composing herself so that she will not be mad at him. 

"I'm not even thinking about stopping, you know."

"You're difficult to talk to. I swear."

"I already did what you want me to do. I went home with my aunt. Is calling you still not allowed, too?"

"What do you think?" Rebecca groaned as she got really irritated. Gavin could even hear her voice. He couldn't help but chuckle.

"You know what, you have to calm down. Your beauty doesn't match what you're doing to me right now."

"If you call me every damn time, I swear you're creeping me out."

"What's wrong with calling you? I am not even doing any harm. All I want is be friends with you. Is that being too much?"

She felt guilty right away. He got a point somehow  but it still made her feel uncomfortable. She sighed and she is sure that Gavin heard it from the other line.

"I don't want to answer your questions. Just respect what I want to do. Go get somebody else but don't bother me."

I turned off his call even before he could say any word. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep because it is almost ten thirty in the evening.

Rebecca's POV

"What?!" Sheira almost freak out when I told her everything that happened today.

"I really hate him he's being too much."

"What is wrong with you? Don't you know what he want to do that night? I mean, who would serenade girls these days? Even good guys are found on tinder right now."

"Sheira, if you don't want our friendship to be over, you better shut up."

"But, really..." She sighed, shoulders shrugged. She even looked down as she rested her left elbow on my armdesk as she put her left hand on her cheek as she looked at me.

"I don't like what you're thinking about. I swear I am not even interested."

"I cannot believe you. It's like you're made to make boys cry I don't know why."

"Really? You don't know the reason why?"

"Of course I do." Sheira gruffed and sighed once more. "But it's so unfair that you will hate every guy in the world just because of the resentment that you have towards your father. I guess it's being biased or something."

"You can't blame me. You know I am not doing this just for nothing."

"Yep, you and your opinion as if it will bring you to something good." She said with sarcasm.

"Yeah, I am sure it will. 

"Yeah, down to guilts and regrets." She poked her arm as she smirked.

"You better study so that you could answer our professor's questions later on and not interfere with what I believed in."

"Okay, miss-guy-hater."

"That's too much of you to judge me. If you're my friend, you have to understand what I went through and respect the results of it."

"Well, you can always move on if you try. Give every guy in the world a chance and you will surely be happy."

"Happiness can be seen everywhere and not just limited to any guy."

Our conversation was cut when our professor entered the room. He discussed our lessons in literature and Sheira frowned when I smiled at her. I am more prepared for our lessons more than she does.

"You have to study our lessons first before you introduce me to any guys. I guess that will be great." I said as I winked. She bit her lower lip as she raised one of her eyebrows. I knew Sheira is the kind of person who is distracted easily. Listening to our professor is something that she's having a hard time with.

I glanced at her and she does the same thing. She even scratched her head as she took down some notes about our ongoing lesson.

"We'll talk more, alright?" She whispered as she put her notebook beside her cheek, her eyes still on our professor. Good thing he's not looking at our direction.

"Class dismissed." After ten more minutes, before the bell rings, they've heard the magic phrase that they've been longing to hear for.

I stood up from my chair but Sheira pulled me close.

"Okay, so tell me, will you continue to ignore Gavin forever? Can't you see? The poor guy even serenade you, for Pete's sake!"

"What about the serenade? I find it corny and uninteresting."

"Can you hear yourself? Oh my goodness! I haven't even experienced that myself. How could you?"

"Okay, let me tell Gavin that he'll serenade you for as long as you like." I said with sarcasm as I rolled my eyes. She pulled my arm again and smiled.

"Okay, I will never let you meet him or talk to him again. I don't want your mother to bother me in my dreams at night. She might tell me that I am a bad influence."

I sighed with relief as I she finally understood what I mean.

"Finally, Sheira. Thank you!" I exclaimed as I hugged her. She chuckled bitterly as she tapped my back.

I held her hand as we walk outside the door of our room when I remembered something.

"Can you wait for me in the library?"

"Why?"

"I forgot my notebook in my locker. I'll be quick to get it and I'll be there in a jiffy."

"Alright." She started walking away as she turned left. While I turned to the opposite direction, almost looking down because I am in a hurry when I bumped on someone's chest. I looked up and I saw Gavin again.

"Oh, sorry Ms. Rebecca! I was in a hurry too. I have to meet someone." He nodded. "Bye!" He walked past me without even smiling.

I was stunned in a moment as I looked back. He didn't even bother to look back at me while I am glued from where I am standing. Meet someone? I wonder if it is a boy or girl...

"Hi, Becca! Are you alright?" One of my closed friends and schoolmate greeted me as she waved her hand in front of my face.

"Oh, yeah...I'm sorry."

Why did he call me Ms. Rebecca all of a sudden? That's odd. I am on my way to my locker but I can't help but to think of how he called me.

Miss Rebecca...

I sighed as I put the key of my locker to its keyhole. As I turned it as it opens, I got the book that I need and closed it again, however, there's a sticky note placed on my locker that I never noticed.

It says, "Please take care always."

There was no name in it. I folded it and simply placed it on my pocket. I returned to the library right away because I am sure Sheira is getting impatient with waiting for me already.

As I sit beside her, she looked at me as if examining my expression.

"Oh my gosh, looks like someone is down in the dumps."

"Silly...what is it this time?"

"You're a bit happier a while ago but now, I am not sure..." She bit her lip that made me roll my eyes as I turned to the other direction.

"Who's studying psychology in advance, now?" I said with sarcasm. She pulled me close to her that made me turn to her right away.

"I just knew you because you're my best friend. From what you look like right now? You're sad. What happened?" She whispered. I bit my lip as I meet her gaze.

"Hmm, I am just wondering what would you feel if someone acts differently all of a sudden?"

"I can't get what you mean. Act different? Who?" Her voice raised a little that I covered her mouth right away. I don't want someone to hear my sentiments.

"It was Gavin."

"Why? What did he do to you?"

"He just address me too formally." 

"Oh, I see. What's wrong with that?"

"See? This is what I am telling you. Guys change all of a sudden."

"My goodness, Becca...you're sounding as if very affected. I am liking it so much!" My best friend giggled that I was able to poke her head gently.

"I really hate you so much." I frowned as I tried to walk away from her. I searched for a table to read my books. I could feel that Keira is following me from behind.

"Becca..." Keira gasped as she pulled me sidewards, inside an aisle of books.

"Look," She peeped through the space between the shelves full of thick books. I followed what she's doing.

"What is it?" I whispered back, trying to find what she's telling me about.

"Look who's sitting on the table near aisle number one."

I followed what Keira told me about and my heart raced when I saw Gavin sitting on the table, talking to a woman in front of him.

From what I have observed, they looked happy and...in loved with each other.
