Chapter 352 His Overbearing Manner Destroyed Her World

Seven years ago, Yandel was 25 years old and his career had just begun to take off. He had to attend business trips all over the country, so he did not get to spend a lot of time with Xylean. Despite working under such a high-pressure environment, Yandel would video call her every night. At times, they had to deal with huge time difference when Yandel was working overseas. Xylean would fall asleep hugging her phone after talking on the phone for too long.

They had been in a long-distance relationship for many years.

Yandel was eight years older than Xylean, but they knew each other since they were kids. They were childhood sweethearts.

Yandel was always the trophy child while Xylean was the trouble-maker. She was always bad and never talented in studying. Xylean’s parents would often invite Yandel over to tutor Xylean as they lived nearby.

“So, that was how you guys fell in love with each other?” Verian asked.

There was a glint in her eyes as she thought of their salad days. Although they were immature most of the time back then, every memory was beautiful.

They somehow grew feelings for each other as time went on.

Xylean was very young back then. She had to date Yandel secretly as she was afraid her parents would find out about her engaging in a relationship at such a young age.

As Xylean grew older, her parents thought it was not appropriate for a boy to tutor their daughter privately. Especially after noticing how Xylean and Yandel would mess around with each other when they brought them snacks during their tutoring session, her parents thought they looked more like they were in a relationship rather than studying.

After passing his college entrance examination, Yandel received the enrollment notice from Harvard Business School and went to study abroad in the United States.

Xylean could still remember how Yandel was almost threatening her to focus on her study and not fall in love with another guy when she was sending him off at the airport.

Xylean was young. She did not know anything about love at that time. She only knew that she admired that boy from the next door a lot and she was reluctant to let him go. After all, he helped her out a lot with her homework. Nobody would help her do her homework once he leaves.

Their long-distance relationship went on for three years.

Throughout the three years, Yandel would call Xylean every day. At times when Xylean complained that she could not finish her assignments, Yandel would video call her and watch her do her assignments without talking to her. If she came across questions that she did not understand, he would explain and write the answers down on a paper for her.

Xylean once said that it would be great if she could bring Yandel along with her into the examination hall.

Yandel was an excellent person. He was at an entirely different level from other people. He completed a five years course and got his diploma and degree in three years’ time.

Verian asked curiously, “Was he rushing to finish his course because of you?”

Xylean looked at the starry sky outside the cabin. Her eyes were filled with loneliness, “Maybe. We might be married now if things went well for us. I have might have already become Mrs. Soan that everybody else envied so much.”

“What happened after that?”

After that…

Yandel was busy fighting for his family business and his career. Yet, he still often spared his time for Xylean although he was extremely busy.

Yandel was a very overbearing man. In fact, he was too overbearing.

Xylean was not allowed to get close or even talk to other boys. If Yandel found out that she was close to other guys, he would be infuriated. It was very difficult to calm him down. Yandel even got jealous and unhappy when Xylean spent too much time with her own brother, Richard.

Yandel was very chauvinistic and bad-tempered back then. He was far less tolerant and patient to her than today. Yandel would become very fierce if she did not pick up his call, reply his message, or disappeared for days.

Xylean learned more about relationships as she grew older. She started to feel that her relationship with Yandel was distorted and unequal. It was usual for girls to act a bit affectatious in relationships, especially having such a hot-tempered and possessive boyfriend like Yandel.

Xylean wanted to break up with him. Looking back, she did not love him a lot at that time. She merely thought Yandel was a charming man with good condition. Moreover, he pampered her a lot. Hence, she followed him around like a pug. Whenever they fought or broke up, she was never the one to feel sad.

At her young age, losing Yandel was merely losing a captivating man. She could still live happily without him.

“So did you guys break up?”

Xylean sighed and said, “If we broke up that time, there will be no afterward. If I was just a little bit more firm at that time, my life would have nothing to do with Yandel.”

No matter how angry Yandel was whenever she wanted to break up, he always took her as a joke and ignored her words. However, Xylean was a person who cools down fast. She would forget about breaking up if Yandel treated her to good food or bring her out on a date. It could be said that Xylean was greedy. She simply liked Yandel’s wealth and the things he could provide her. She was not attached to Yandel back then; as though a kid, she loved people who gave her candies unconditionally.

Until the year when Yandel was 25 years old, he went to London for work. Due to the huge time difference, he wanted Xylean to pick him up from the airport. However, Xylean’s parents wanted her to pick her 10-year-old brother up as his tuition class was about to end. Naturally, Xylean rejected Yandel. He always wanted to be the first in Xylean’s heart. Not even Xylean’s family was allowed to surpass his place in her heart.

Coming to think of it, it might be Xylean’s problem. She never made Yandel feel secure in their relationship; that was why he grew to become so overbearing and stubborn.

However, nobody was made a saint. People tend to put their fault on another person to prove themselves innocent and call out injustice.

In fact, Xylean was actually afraid of Yandel. She was afraid that he would be angry and wanted to break up with her. In that case, she would not be able to enjoy the so-called candies he gave her any more. Hence, she started to weigh the benefits against risks. Young and immature, she kept it a secret from her family and went to the airport to pick up Yandel instead of her young brother.

Richard was hit by a car on his way back home. When they arrived at the hospital, he had already been declared dead.

Xylean shut her eyes and stopped recalling the past memories.

Knowing that she was crying, Verian handed her a tissue, “So that's why you were being indifferent to Mr. Soan all these years?”

“I can’t be passionate about him. I would feel guilty towards Richard if I was being even the slightest bit nice to him.”

Verian nodded her head, “I know how you feel.”

She did not want to comfort Xylean by telling her to move on because one could not be reborn after death. She knew that the scar would be eternal whenever it comes to death. Although Yandel was not the one who killed Richard directly; he passed away because of him.

Xylean spoke with blood-red eyes, “If only Yandel was a little bit more good-tempered and had a better personality, Richard wouldn’t have died. The doctor said that Richard still could be saved if he was sent to the hospital just a few minutes earlier, but it was too late…If I didn’t choose to pick up Yandel back then, Richard wouldn’t have died…”

Xylean’s slender shoulder started trembling as she sobbed harder. Verian did not know how to comfort her. She could only reach out her hands and hugged her silently.

“Because of Yandel, I lost my one and only brother. Even my parents ignored me all these years. They are still immersed in anguish and the pain of losing their son. I lost the people who are closest to me. However, probably out of guilt, Yandel had turned to become a very good-tempered and tolerant person throughout these years. No matter how much I go against him throughout these seven years, deliberately leaving him all the time, he never scolded me. He was always amiable. He never even tried to cast me a fierce gaze. The more he does that, the more I hate him. Because he keeps reminding me that he was the one who killed Richard by acting that way.”

“It’s alright, Leanie. Everything will be over, you’ll be fine soon. I forgot to tell you that I just got a divorce.”

The best way to comfort a friend was by telling the person about your own tragedy.

Xylean looked at her with blurry eyes and smiled.

Sadness filled the cabin as the girls fell asleep hugging each other.
