Chapter 4 Never Been Treated Well Before

"The things between my family and I..." A hint of pain flashed across the bottom of Kiki's eyes as she collected her thoughts.

"I should have accomplished the first task, but the second..." Kiki's heart felt slightly warm as she thought about how Morgan had taken advantage of her. She was not entirely sure if she had succeeded in making him hate her.

She could not understand it at all.

Logically speaking, any man would have wanted to distance himself from a greedy, licentious, uncultured, and exceptionally ugly woman like her today.

"Why would Morgan want to do it with me then? Don't tell me... That he's acting out of frustration?"

"That's good, then," reminded Harold. "I'm off tomorrow night, so you have to remember to take over."

Kiki promised him and then turned around to descend the stairs. Just at this moment, her mobile phone went off.

She squinted slightly as she noticed that it was her grandfather calling.

"Come back tonight, Kiki..."

"Don't worry, Grandpa," Kiki cut him off calmly. "I already said that you people can get June Lincoln to replace me. I won't cause any trouble tomorrow."

Even though she had promised to not cause any problems tomorrow, it did not mean that she would not try something today.

"You're mistaken," Old Mr. Gregg replied with a soft sigh, as if he was a little ashamed. "You haven't been home for such a long time, and Grandpa misses you... Ahem, ahem... Kiki, are you unwilling to meet me as well?"

Kiki felt her heart ache a little upon hearing him coughing.

Her paternal grandfather was the only one in the Gregg Family that treated her somewhat well, even though it was more words than actions. However, no matter how much he truly cared for her, Kiki still recalled their relationship with much fondness.

"Are you really ill, Grandpa?" she asked in a low voice, her gaze somewhat apprehensive. She could remember, however, that he looked to be in pretty robust health a few days ago when she last saw him.

"I just caught a cold and that is all. It's no big deal." Old Mr. Gregg hesitated before trying to change the subject. "It was your 18th birthday before, and I prepared a gift for you but had no chance to give it to you in time. Come and get it from me, all right? Don't let your parents know about this."

"I'll go back," Kiki muttered hesitantly. "However, I'm coming to see you because of your illness, not for the gift."

She let out a breath of air slowly after hanging up the phone.

"This is the last time that I'm putting my faith in the old man. If he's lying to me... Then there won't be anything left in that family worth remembering."

By the time she hailed a ride back to the Gregg residence, it was close to 11 p.m.

Kiki's fingers tensed up as she stared at the familiar-looking villa.

She was a daughter of the Greggs and also its biggest embarrassment.

Her mother, Sky Morris, was not the first wife of her father, Samuel Gregg.

His first wife was unable to conceive due to her frail constitution. However, he was bent on continuing the Gregg line, and he kept a mistress on the side for that purpose—Sky Morris.

Unfortunately, the first child that Sky bore him was a daughter, nearly causing Samuel, who only wanted a male heir, to sever all ties with her. After that incident, Sky used all her powers to keep him and bore him a second child. He was Kiki's younger brother, Jimmy Gregg.

Very shortly after, Samuel's first wife passed away from illness unexpectedly, and he fetched Sky, along with their two children, back to the Gregg residence.

Samuel valued his son much more than his daughter; he devoted all of his energy on Kiki's brother, Jimmy. He did not care about her at all. Her mother, Sky, put all of the blame for Samuel's near departure on Kiki and hated her daughter with all her heart.

Ever since she was born, Kiki was an unwelcome presence in the Gregg Family. Sometimes, it even caused her to indulge in self-destructive thoughts. She dreamed of how good her life would be if she wasn't one of the Greggs. At the very least, she would not be feeling so upset at receiving such bad treatment.

Kiki's expression was somewhat downcast. Her conception was the original sin, but everyone said that children themselves were innocent. However, she had never been treated well by fate ever before.
