Chapter 3 She Did It on Purpose

"She knows that I'm Morgan Smith," he said casually.

"Huh?" Eric replied, his mouth wide open in shock.

"However, she thinks that I don't know that she knows who I really am," Morgan continued, curling his lips slightly.

He was beating around the bush a little, but it did not take Eric long to understand what his superior really meant. After all, he had worked for Morgan for a really long time.

"Does this mean... that Ms. Gregg did it on purpose?" Eric asked quizzically. "However, even if her purpose was to tell you of the Greggs' plans, did she have to do it in such a bombastic fashion? Isn't she afraid that you'll dislike her?"

"That is her motive," Morgan replied, his gaze turning serener and deeper. "She doesn't want to get married to me. Of course, she also doesn't want the Greggs to benefit so easily."

"Huh?!" Eric exclaimed, his mouth still as wide open from shock as before.

"Our CEO, Morgan Smith, has been consecutively voted as the 'Most Eligible Bachelor' of the entire country. How could he be disliked by any woman? Furthermore, we are talking about the fiancée he chose—a horrible-looking, wanton, and money-seeking woman..."

Eric felt that the entire world was an illusion to him right now.

He knew better than anyone else why Morgan wanted to marry Kiki.

Two months ago, Morgan's maternal grandfather, Old Mr. An, passed the astrological birth data of many women to a Taoist priest, who was said to be very accurate, for fortune-telling. Eventually, the priest determined that one of the women would be able to bring luck to her husband and that her astrological birth was a match for Morgan's. According to him, they were a match made in heaven.

That woman was Kiki Gregg.

Up until now, Eric felt that the entire matter was far too preposterous and that it had been taken too lightly. "How could anyone still believe in fortune-telling in the 21st century?" However, it did not matter what he thought, for Old Mr. An believed in such things.

Also, Morgan had a great relationship with his maternal grandfather. To please Old Mr. An, he had agreed to the marriage!

Eric could not help having this constant worry that Morgan was on the losing side in this agreement. "Now that I've seen Kiki Gregg in person, I feel even more strongly that he has been defrauded! I can't imagine what would happen if such a woman married Mr. Smith! It'll definitely end up as a black mark that he has to carry for the rest of his life!"

"You know that the old man actually dotes on you quite a bit, right, Boss?" Eric began to caution Morgan. "As long as you voice your concerns to him, I believe that he wouldn't force you to marry Ms. Gregg; no matter how superstitious he may be."

"Who said that he's forcing me?" Morgan retorted, staring coldly at his assistant.

"Huh?!" Eric's mouth was wide open in shock again. "Does Mr. Smith actually mean that he was the one who proposed to marry Kiki Gregg?

"This can't be... Our boss is excellent in everything and anything. Yet... He has such a unique taste in women?!"

"Keep a close eye on the Greggs," Morgan continued in a low voice. He had already stopped staring so harshly at Eric. "Doppelganger, eh? The Greggs are really asking for it!"

Eric regained his senses and hurriedly agreed to the task.

Kiki ran to the stairs in a huff. It was only when she noticed that no one was chasing after her that she felt a little relieved.

"Kiki."

She turned around to see Harold King looking worriedly at her.

She had been working part-time in a bar as a bartender, and Harold was her mentor. She had received news that Morgan would be coming to her bar tonight and got Harold's help sneak her into Morgan's room. He usually treated her and cared for her like an elder brother. Even though it was against company rules, he still used his connections to help her.

"How did your thing go?" Harold asked.

"Erm... It went okay, I guess?" Kiki stammered, a little lost.

She had two motives for seeing Morgan today: The first was to tell him that her family was planning to replace her with her younger cousin, June Lincoln to trick him; and the second was to get him to hate her, so that he would call off their engagement.

She was completely unwilling to marry Morgan Smith.

They had never met each other before, and there was no basis for a relationship between them! Furthermore, her family's situation was rather complicated, and she was still young. She had no wish to have any dealings with this "Most Eligible Bachelor".

Of course, even if she had no wish to marry him, she could not allow her younger cousin, June Lincoln, to benefit.
