5. What A Total Jerk!

“It’s true, he was asking for another date, well I did not see his message right away because I was out with Jane that time and guess what… he was also asking Jane out..”

“What a total jerk!” Keira was so disgusted with Stephen and at the same time sorry for herself.

“I know right! The nerve of that guy, I know you tried to shut him out immediately that’s why I was surprised that he was asking to see you again.”

Keira blushed thinking of their date.

“Hey, you’re blushing. Wait, do you like that a*s?”  Tara was mocking her.

“Silly me, it is the very first time to like a guy and I ended up liking such a tool,” Keira whined.

“Why? Did your jerk detector malfunction? You can easily determine my date’s true intention how come you failed with this one?”

“I guess so, I actually found him quite pleasant, sweet, caring, and hot.” Keira looked down, her face turned crimson-red and she immediately felt it burning hot. It’s been more than a month but those scenes flashback to her as if she can still feel his touch.

“Oh my! You actually did it!” Tara glared at her friend,

Keira “…”

“You! Hey, I am the bi*ch friend here and you were the first one to sleep with…”

“Hush!” Keira covered Tara’s mouth to stop her from exposing her to the whole café who turned their eyes on their table.

“You did it with him? You surrendered your first… to that prick?” Tara was whispering her repulsion with Keira’s revelation.

“I’m a fool to think that he is different from the other guys, he ruined my first… and I hope I won’t see that jerk ever again.”

Keira’s words were harsh, she wanted to appease her friend, but deep inside her; she wants to meet him again to clarify what happened between them, to have closure; if it really was a one night fling for him.

“He does not deserve you sis, move on.” Tara tightly squeezed Keira’s hand assuring her friend that she will be always there for her.

“What’s left to do?” Keira shrugged her shoulders but still feeling sad about Tara’s disclosure, she never imagined that guy she spent the night with would turn out to be this horrible playboy.

Tara tried her best to cheer Keira up; they went shopping after coffee. This is the first time they both enjoyed shopping. Before Keira was not interested in fashion she often went out wearing her tracksuit. Now that she has the responsibility to represent their conglomerate, she has this urge to always look her best.

“Sis, I like this version of you, we can enjoy shopping time together now…” Tara was teasing Keira, relentlessly.

“I never thought I would enjoy this too hahaha…I will tell you a secret please keep it for me.”

“What is it?”

“I will start working for our company this coming Monday.”

“Well that’s great news, it’s only you who should inherit that post so what is there to keep?”

“I’ll start as a rank and file employee and no one should know that I am the heiress.”

“Huh? Why?”

“To show the board that I know how the company works from the lowest position to the top, and also I would like to know who the traitors are from within.”

“Well, that sounds a great idea, but I’m worried that you’ll get bullied.”

“I think I can manage bullies, it’s not like I have had the best experience before.”

“Hmmm… you should tell me if someone bullies you, I will take revenge for you.”

The tone on Tara’s voice is full of empathy, she is aware of all the hardships her friend went thru, she can’t let her bear more hurt and grief.

“Wow, I’m so lucky to have a friend like you, Tara.” Keira's eye gleaned with gratitude.

“Of course, you can always pay me back you know.”

“What?”

“Go on another blind date.”

“Hahaha! That’s never going to happen again sis, over my dead body.”

Keira was determined that she will never put herself in such a situation ever again.

“Why not?” Tara sneered at Keira who again blushed with the thought of the last blind date she went to.

“I am still traumatized from the last one; please spare me from your dates.”

While Tara and Keira were looking at dresses, two women approached them; their classmates from high school.

“Hey Tara! Remember us? We were your classmates back in high school.”

“Ah yeah, Misty and Lilly right?” Tara remembers them clearly because they bullied Keira back in the days, and she was always the one to rescue her from these witches.

“Yes, good thing you remember us, I heard you studied college with your dork friend.”

Misty glanced and smiled at the unfamiliar woman beside Tara … “Oh and your friend here?”

“My best friend, Keira, you don’t remember her?” Tara proudly introduced the new Keira she’s with.

“What? Keira Greene?” Misty could not believe her eyes; the person she bullied in high school is prettier than her by more than ten-fold.

“Why, do you have a problem with that?” Tara was clenching her fist, knowing these girls; no good words would come out from their foul mouth.

“Wow, I did not recognize you at all, you must have a real good surgeon, how much did it cost?”

Tara was furious with the hostility her friend was receiving, she was about to slap Misty but Keira held her hand to stop her, Tara calmed down when she saw Keira smiling.

“I did not have any surgery to fix my face, though I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it if I did… I just feel sorry for you because no amount of surgery can fix your attitude.”

Keira slammed the malicious statement of Misty with just a few words. Her tongue was so sharp it cut through the heart like a sword.

Tara was satisfied with Keira’s rebuttal, she really did change. The timid girl now has a voice of her own to protect herself from such boorish people.

Keira and Tara were both laughing as they exited the store, while the two witches were furious as they watch the two goddess walks away.

“Have I already told you that I love this version of you?” Tara chuckled at Keira.
