As I left Abigail's office, the conversation I had with her was circling around my head. What is it that she knows about Adrian that I couldn’t handle. I shook the thoughts out of my head and went up to the 45th level, Adrian’s office.
I knocked on the glass door as I saw through the transparent glass, Adrian standing while overlooking the view of New York through the big window. He turned around as he heard me knocking and nod signalling me to come in. “So what will be my first job being your secretary?” I ask. “Where is your desk?” Adrian asked as he cocked to the side looking out from his office to find my desk. “At the 30th floor.” I answer. I haven’t had the time to pack all my things and move up to the 45th floor where there is an empty desk right outside Adrian’s office. “Well there you go. Your first job is to move your desk right outside where I could see you.” Adrian says as he sits on the chair and opens his laptop and starts typing. I nod, turn around and leave his office without saying anything.I took the elevator down to the 30th floor and once the door opened, I saw Reyes, a new guy who’s first day working today at Gilded Royale. I interviewed him last week with the marketing executive. “Hey, Laura, right? The HR I met last week during the interview?” He asked me.
I smile “Yeah, Reyes right. What are you doing here?” I ask. He took out his phone as he showed me a text message between him and the marketing executive, Leon. The text message is about Leon telling Reyes to meet him at Meeting Room 5 at 30th floor. “Come on, let me show you where it is,” I say and start walking. Since I’m going to walk past meeting room 5 on the way to my office. “Why are you carrying that box?” Reyes asks as he looks at the brown box I’m carrying to put my things into to move up to the 45th floor. “I’m moving up. I’m not an HR from today onwards.” I say. He tilt his head to the side in confusion. “I’m not fired if that’s what you’re wondering.” I say “I just changed my job position”. I continue and stop walking followed by Reyes. “Here is meeting room 5.” I say and point it behind him. He thanked me with a big smile. He’s 30 years old but looks like a teenager with his curly brown hair and dimples.After an hour of moving and settling down at my new desk outside Adrian’s office, I felt uncomfortable. I used to have my own office space even if it’s small. Now I have only a desk and have a view of the glass door of people coming in and out. I could see the elevator from where I’m seated.
Suddenly, my desk telephone beep. “I need you” Adrian says through the telephone voice com. I got up and went into his office without knocking. “Let’s get to business,” Adrian says. I sat opposite him with my Ipad on hand and opened the voice recording just in case I missed what he said.“I don’t eat office food nor outside” Adrian says “Every 2pm sharp there must be food on my coffee table. Any food is fine, surprise me” He added and smiled. “I want you to book a package for me to do boxing every friday and wednesday night.” Adrian says.
As he told me the list he wants me to book, I was thinking to myself am I a personal secretary or maid? All the list is full of his own personal affair instead of the company affairs. I didn’t ask as maybe this is a part of my job scope to deal with his personal matters after all my job position did name personal secretary. Suddenly, I remembered about the annual charity event that is happening this saturday night. Abigail's instructions were to brief about the charity event to Adrian and he needed to attend for good company image as the media is going to be there. “By the way, there is an annual charity event in which Gilded Royale donate and attend the event every year. You have to be there for an appearance this saturday” I say as I open up the report that was mail from Abigail to me. I show him from my Ipad and he sighs. “Must I really go?” He asks as he frowns his brows. “Yes. It’s important to keep a good image of the company.” I say. “What’s the event about?” Adrian asks. “Poverty. Helping the poor, broken and unstable family” I say as I look down on my Ipad and flashbacks start rolling in my mind. Thinking back about my fucked up aunt who took everything from me for her own personal gain and just abandoned me in the house alone for weeks and which was sold for weeks after leaving me. That is how the social worker found me and I stay in a shelter for the homeless all my life until I earn my degree.Suddenly, I realised it was silence. There was no sound, not even the keyboard typing. Instead when I looked up, Adrian was staring at me looking down on the Ipad. “What?” I ask. He just shrugged and continued typing on his keyboard.
“I want to evaluate all the outlets in New York for their interior and merchandising.” Adrian says. “Please liaise with the marketing manager about when he is free to go down and go around the outlet for evaluation” Adrian continued. I nod.
The meeting goes for hours. At 1pm I leave his office and start working on the assignment that Adrian gave me. Suddenly, I saw Greta the HR generalist come out from the elevator walking towards my desk. “Hey,” She says as she places a stack of documents on my desk. As I looked up at her, she was cocking her head to the side as if she was peeking at someone or something. I frown looking at her and turn my head around to see what she is peeking at. It’s Adrian. Greta laughed nervously. “You’re lucky to have your desk near him. He is so hot!” Greta says smiling. I sigh. “Okay...is there anything else you need other than delivering this document and ogling our boss?” I ask sarcastically. Greta then rolled her eyes. Suddenly, Adrian went out of his office.“I’m going out for awhile. Make sure the food is on my desk by 2pm once I come back.” Adrian says. I looked over at Greta, she was smiling as she looked at Adrian blinking furiously.
Greta extends her arm for a handshake towards Adrian and introduces herself “Hi I’m Greta the HR Generalist. Nice meeting you and hope we can work together” while smiling flirtily. Adrian grabs her hand and smiles. “Nice to meet you too.” Greta chuckles. I look away trying to avoid the scene of a girl smiling flirtily to some hot guy. “You’re going down? Let’s go down together.” Greta says and both of them walk away from my desk towards the elevator. Greta is 1 year younger than me and she has quite a reputation in the office. She was known as the adorable worker with her big eyes and squeaky cartoon voice. She has a petite body who always wore a short side slit short skirt and tight blouse that shows her perfect hourglass body shape and c cup bosom.I couldn’t really get along with her as she is a social wild girl. Honestly, Adrian and her are a perfect match.
