Chapter 5

I saw a black Ferrari parked behind him and had to ask, “Your car?” pointing on the ferrari. Ignoring his request, I changed the subject so I could quickly walk away from this conversation. He nodded.

“I'll get going” Before I could turn away and walk, Adrian grabbed my upper arm and pulled me close to him.

My muscles clenched together as I pressed my lips together as he looked down at me. Our faces were close as I could feel his breath, then I acted on my instinct and pushed him away with both my hands gently. He didn’t let go instead “Get in. I’ll send you home” and pushed me into the passenger after opening the passenger door for me.

“Wait..” Before I could finish my sentence I was already inside his car seating down and the door was already closed. 

He entered the car, put on his seat belt and started the engine.

“You know this is kidnapping” I say. Adrian chuckles “No. This is a boss who wants to send his employee home safely”. I scoff.

“You haven’t answered my question” I say thinking back on what Adrian says wanting me to be his secretary. “Must there be a reason why I want you to be my secretary?” He says as his hands on the steering wheel and his eyes focus on the road.

“Of course or else you wouldn’t have asked me” I answered as I crossed my arm.

“I want a professional relationship.No commitment. No emotional attachment. Just a Boss - Secretary relationship.” Adrian speaks. I turn looking at him.

“I feel you fit that description as i notice you don’t have friends at work,” Adrian added. I scoff and say “I’m offended”. He chuckles “Am i wrong?” He asked. I rolled my eyes as he turned to me.

Well he’s not wrong. I don’t build rapport with colleagues as I don’t want to be involved in work dramas. I have too many problems in my life and I don't want work to be one of them. But right now I feel like work is one of them ever since Adrian came.

I sigh and ask him “What’s in it for me?”. “Anything you want,” Adrian says. Anything I want?! That’s what I’m talking about. I could ask for a pay raised because i knew being his secretary means i have to work around the clock for him.

“Triple my salary and Sunday is off limits” I say firmly. Adrian taps his fingers on the steering wheel as he is in thought.

“Deal.” he says and follows by “I have only 1 condition, you have to be available for me 24 hours everyday except for Sundays”.

I’m so in trouble. How am I going to work with him while I can't control my arousal and dirty thoughts of him. If this is the only way i could earn a lot and get back at my family for disowning me, then so be it.

My anger is stronger than falling for Adrian. I should just focus on the anger and I'll be fine. I’ve been doing it for 13 years so I don't see a problem doing it now too. I push all emotion away and just focus on one and that is anger towards my aunt.

Suddenly, he stopped by a lamppost which is infront my apartment. I’m surprised he knew where I stayed. “So i’ll see you tomorrow in my office?” Adrian asks. “See you Mr. Hawthorne” I say and give him a polite smile as I get out from his car.

Without looking back I walked straight into my apartment. I unlocked my door and went straight to my bed since my apartment is a studio layout so I don't have a room.

I drop flat on the bed feeling a little tipsy and exhausted. I lay on my back and looked up the ceiling. I felt so empty yet a little nervous will i be okay being Adrians’ secretary? I shook my head to remove the thought or feeling of nervousness and filled my mind with anger towards my family who disowned me.

Next Morning…

“I’m transferring my job position,” I say.

“Yeah i know. Adrian told me” Abigail said as she crossed her leg. “Here’s my letter of transfer,” I say as I place the letter on the coffee table that is in front of her.

Abigail took it and opened the letter and said, “Are you sure you want to work for him?” She asks me as her eyes read through the letter. “I agree because of how much he pays me” I say. Abigail chuckles,

“Money is not everything Laura. He’s not easy to work with and it may affect your well being, especially when both of you are similar” she says as she looks at me. I frown and ask her “Similar? What makes you say that?”.

“I’ve known Nigel for 20 years and from what I know from Nigel, Adrian is difficult to handle.

There are some things that you may want to avoid knowing about him” Abigail says as her tone gets serious. “Like?” I ask as I arched both my brows up. If she says it like that, she seems to know what is the thing about Adrian that she wants me to avoid.

“Well that’s confidential and it appears that you’re not an HR so yeah” Abigail says as she pressed her lips together and shrugged. “It’s a good thing that I’m able to keep everything professional, especially in work” I say as I cleared my throat. “Can you be professional with Adrian? I mean did you have a good look at him, nobody can resist his looks” Abigail says. She’s not all wrong but I’m pretty good at keeping all my emotion to myself.
