Chapter 67

At that moment, Lady Cecilia could no longer maintain her graceful demeanor.

To her, what Jessica did was a disgrace to the Ferguson family!

Jessica glanced at Blake from afar, and noticed that livid look on his face, implying that she had committed a grave mistake.

Being mute, was that a crime?

He spoke on her behalf in front of others, intending to protect her, yet the moment she used sign language, he distanced himself away from her instead?

Frankly speaking, maybe this was his bottom-line, which was bringing her to this banquet, hoping she would be as quiet as a mouse and behaving in a way that would not be disgraceful.

Unfortunately, her sign language fell within what he deemed as disgraceful.

Jessica retracted her gaze, slowly curled her lips, and grinned.

She looked at Lady Cecilia and started to speak in sign language.

“Not being able to speak is indeed a defect I am born with, this is an unchangeable fact. I also have always been aware that I am now a part of the Ferguson family, which requires me to protect the family reputation.

“However, sign language is a way for me to communicate with everyone. It is a part of me, and the thought has never occurred to me that speaking this language is disgraceful.

“If me speaking sign language is not to your liking, and is something that you feel is embarrassing, that I shall stop using it. Then again, joining in with others to humiliate your son’s wife, do you think this is something that you should be doing?”

Jessica finally let loose of the things that she has been holding back, which was welling up inside of her up until now. Once she got started, there never seemed to be any intention to stop. All her frustrations, anger, and dissatisfaction were let out indiscriminately.

Getting more emotionally worked up, the movements of her arms start to get more aggressive and rapid. Some of the people looked at her interestingly, and some stared at her as if looking at a weird creature. Some simply took her as a joke as they witnessed what was happening.

From Lady Cecilia’s perspective, she could not even understand what Jessica was trying to say. Instead, she felt that Jessica’s actions were a sign of revolt.

Having been angered to the point of trembling, she shouted, “That is enough, stop what you’re doing right now!”

Lady Cecilia looked at everyone around her, her face pale with seething anger.

Jessica had said all she wanted to say at that point. She lowered her arms and walked towards Blake until she was in front of him. She wanted to see whether her husband will reprimand her for what she just did.

It did not matter.

Blake Ferguson stared at the woman in front of him, whose face had turned red from the emotional outburst earlier, whose dark beady eyes seemingly unyielding yet layered with frustration and grievance.

Jessica waited for his reply. Receiving none, she started to raise her arms.

“Are you going to do the same and complain that I bring shame to you as well? Well don’t you forget, it is you who insisted that I come along with you here!” Jessica exclaimed.

Having done speaking, she headed towards the exit of the banquet, carrying Winson with her.

As if she gave a cr*p about some stupid banquet!

Despite thinking as such, her eyes have almost turned red, at the brink of tearing up.

In front of everyone, it was as if she became a weird creature.

Whatever happened in the banquet after Jessica left was none of her business. She had not bothered to worry whether or not Lady Cecilia and her husband had taken action to restore their condescending image.

Having reached home, she left her son in Miss Susan’s care and went to her room in a rush.

She was shocked seeing Jessica’s face flushed with anger.

Jessica must have been very aggrieved, with tears welling up in her eyes.

Earlier she seemed fine when leaving the house, so what happened?

Jessica went to the bathroom and turned on the shower. Water then started to flow down onto her, who crouched into a fetal position, silently crying.

If she was an embarrassment then they should not have brought her out in the first place! She did not even say anything from the beginning until the end. Did she deserve to be treated and judged so harshly just because of something trivial?

After a long time when her mood has started to slowly recover, she changed into a new pair of clothes and came out of the bathroom.

Blake had not returned yet, she booted up the PC and logged into her chat account.

There was a notification from her QQ, it was a message from Thomas asking about the compilation progress of her commonly used words.

Jessica opened her excel spreadsheet, which contained a list of words she recorded, and how many times they were used daily.

The most common one was “I’m sorry” which has been used more than ten times daily.

She gave a final thorough check through that file, preparing to send it to Thomas. The moment before she clicked on the mouse, she stared at the word “I’m sorry”, retracted her finger from the mouse, and started to type.

[Scentless Cookie: I am not going to send this file. I have no interest in continuing this project.]

After she finished typing, she went off in a daze in front of the computer. Due to her unpleasant mood, she could not be bothered to do anything, much more so when it came to thinking about anything.

A notification sound came from her QQ application, the profile icon on Thomas Wayne’s account flickered.

[Boundless Fox: What’s up? In a bad mood?]

Thomas was sitting in a café at that moment. He took a sip from his coffee and went back to his phone.

Once a project had been approved, multiple groups, each with distinctive tasks, will then be set up to carry it out, with Thomas being the lead manager of the project. Jessica whose part of the information group had a dedicated person in charge of interacting with her.

He was not in contact with Jessica for a while now. Ever since his chat with Harvey that day, it was like he subconsciously avoided contacting her.

For god knows what reason, however, Jessica’s calm appearance kept lingering in his mind.

When he heard from the information group lead that Jessica still had not submitted her report, he took it upon himself to remind her of the task that was due.
