Chapter 62

Jessica stepped out, and Blake was stunned by what he saw.

In a simple updo held in place by a red hairpin, her curled hair tresses framed her cheeks. Her face was beautiful with arched eyebrows, soft eyes, a dainty nose, and striking ruby lips. She looked alluring yet pure at the same time.

While Blake knew that Jessica was quite a looker, but after getting dolled up, she truly looked stunning.

Blake himself donned a dignified tailor-made suit with a quaint little pocket square in his breast pocket. Surely, all eyes would be on him the moment he stepped into the Jackson family’s ballroom.

However, this time, the spotlight would be focused on the widely-rumored Mrs. Ferguson. After all, this would be Jessica’s grand debut in the public eye.

She walked alongside Blake, stepping into the venue as everyone began to notice her.

Silence swept across the crowd.

On the other hand, Kim Jackson, who had been enjoying the attention showered on her on her home turf, was eclipsed immediately. She had picked out a charming red dress that lent her a warm and generous impression, and red was a color that caught people's eye easily, but it did not matter anymore.

Kim clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, trying to conceal her anger. However, she was taken aback by this development. She had never paid Jessica any heed.

Didn’t Blake Ferguson despise Jessica? It made no sense to have her make a public appearance.

So, why did he give her such an exceptional debut?

Her family had indeed planned this banquet for Mrs. Jackson’s birthday, but it was also secretly to humiliate Jessica Scott and ensure that she knew her place.

Of course, the Jacksons would not dare to offend the Fergusons by overstepping their boundaries. The guests that were invited were selected specifically, and the decision to invite Jessica had been discussed with Lady Cecilia beforehand.

Lady Cecilia had repeatedly hinted at Jessica to quickly divorce her son, but this woman was so shamelessly thick-skinned and just would not leave. That was the only reason she had agreed to Kim’s request to prove to Jessica just how different the worlds they lived in were.

Lady Cecilia watched her son and the woman walk towards her.

“Good day, Mother,” Blake greeted her.

Upon seeing his grandmother, Winson also politely called out to her. The little boy was certainly taught well despite his young age. He was polite, not afraid of crowds, and did not run around screaming. Instead, he stood beside Blake obediently.

It was unsure if Blake caught on to anything, but at that moment, he reached his hand out and held on to Jessica’s hand.

Lady Cecilia glanced at young Winson’s face, then her gaze stopped on Jessica’s face with a very threatening expression. “You’d better not try anything funny today! Just stand there and keep your mouth shut.”

Jessica pursed her lips and lowered her eyes.

Only after warning Jessica did Lady Cecilia turn to her son. She was also surprised at Jessica’s appearance.

Even though it was Kim’s idea to invite her, if Blake did not agree to it, then Jessica would never have been allowed to come regardless.

Did that mean that her son was slowly coming to accept her?

Lady Cecilia searched for signs, but Blake’s expression gave nothing away. Right at this moment, a middle-aged man came over with a glass of wine to greet him. Blake nodded at his mother. “I’ll be having a few words with Chairman Henderson first.”

He then turned to Jessica. “Stay here with Winson. Don't run off.”

After that, Blake accepted the wine that was offered to him and walked off with the man.

Lady Cecilia also left after a sideways glance at Jessica. To her, it was the ultimate shame to be in the same space as Jessica at such an event.

Just like that, Blake left, and so had Lady Cecilia. Only little Winson was left with Jessica. She looked down at her son, who was biting his fingernails, and softly smiled.

When the middle-aged man walked over earlier, he had given her a quick glance. Despite the fact that everyone knew she was Mrs. Ferguson, it was still her first time here, and Blake had not introduced her to anyone.

Just by standing where she was, Jessica could feel the gazes of people from the whole ballroom. She could imagine what they would be saying.

“So, Mr. Ferguson, is this the rumored mute wife of yours? I see you’ve finally brought her out.”

Winson looked at his mother, unaware of what was happening, and pointed to a camellia plant not too far from where they stood. “Mama, flowers.”

Jessica gently took her son’s hand and slowly walked over to the camellia plant. The bright red camellias had bloomed beautifully with each and every flower resembling a miniature flame.

Unfortunately, camellias withered as quickly as they bloomed, and many of them had fallen on the ground.

Winson stood on his tiptoes and plucked a camellia. “Mama, give.”

Jessica smiled, took the flower, and spun it around in her hand. She gave the boy a small pat. “Thank you, dear.”

Winson smiled crookedly, and as if a lightbulb lit up in his head, he suddenly wanted the flower back. “Mama…” He tried to reach for the flower with his tiny hand, prompting Jessica to bend down.

She knelt down and Winson took the flower, placing it in her hair bun. He smiled even wider and quietly said, “Pretty…”

Throughout the whole ordeal, Kim had been keeping an eye on Jessica. Upon seeing that she could be perfectly content on her own, she rolled her eyes in disbelief.

Kim contemplated to herself. If she was in the same situation, she could never have done this. This woman was really shameless beyond words!
