PROLOGUE

Mariah

She waited silently in my bedroom for her father to call her in. But she knew what was happening already. Her family was poor and in desperate need of money and her father was too weak to earn enough from just selling the fruits and vegetables alone. They needed money. She had 4 siblings, excluding herself, and they needed to be educated, clothed and fed.She didn't blame my father... she could never blame him. She knew deep down that if he had any other option he would have taken it. But he didn't.

Her eyes clouded with tears as she heard the knock on her door. She took a deep breath, picked up her bags before she opened the door. Her father stood there with a sad look in his eyes and she knew he blamed himself for not being able to provide for his family. She shook her head and gave him a small smile mumbling softly " It's okay. I understand".

He shook his head and pulled her in for a hug. She let him hug her and enjoyed the warmth of his fatherly embrace, knowing it would be a while before she had one again. Her mother stood a little further back with her 3 brothers and sister. They were still so young. Her brother Leo being the second oldest at 12, understood what was happening, she could tell he was angry.

"Don't be sad. This is only for now" she told them with a smile before walking out of the small home and following the large man to the carriage. She looked back one last time at her home and promised herself she would come back... one day. She got into the carriage and journeyed to the castle, her fate sealed as she watched her old home disappear into the horizon. It was only then that she noticed all the other young girls beside her in the carriage, some with tears in their eyes other just staring grimly out the small window and into the sky.

Mariah felt bad for them. It looked as if their parents has sold them too, but they didn't seem too willing. One of them met her eye and she instantly felt afraid, where was the carriage going to? Who had she been sold to?

Eljah threw the lifeless body of his stepmother at his father's feet, his jaw clenched with anger. His fathers eyes widened in fear and pain as he stared down at the body of his wife and unborn child. " H-how could you?" his father asked his eyes pooling with tears. Elijah titled his head to the side and gave his father a hard glare.

"I warned you". Elijah said pushing his father against the wall and wrapping his hand around his neck."I told you what would happen if you had another child... but you didn't listen. And this is your punishment". Elijah said pointing to the whore's body. "But don't fear, you'll be joining her soon".He said with a sadistic smile before he plunged his hand into his fathers chest and pulled out his still beating heart.

He heard the small sob from the corner of the room and looked to see his half sister standing over her mother's body. He signalled for one of the maids to come and fetch her before he turned and took slow careful steps toward his throne. He heard the quick paced footsteps of the butler as the doors to throne room opened. The butler looked down at the now dead body of his old king and then looked up into the eyes of his new one."Your highness" the butler bowed as Elijah turned to face him.

Elijah took slow careful steps toward the stone and paused slightly in front of it before taking his seat. "Tell the council that my father has passed, tell them he had a heart attack and the medics could not get to him quick enough. His heart stopped beating and because of his previous battles, it wasn't able to restart."The butler nodded his head swiftly. "Of course, your highness."The butler then turned around and left, leaving the new king on his own in the throne room.

Elijah vowed then and there to lead his country to greatness and surpass even his father as the King of all King's. He got up and stopped in front of his fathers body. He took the crown off his head, whipping off the blood before he walked out of the room with a small smile on his face.

He was the new King, and he would rule with power and fear

Chapter 14_______MARIAH My heart was pounding with excitement as I got out of the warm bath to see a towel for me along with one of the King's shirts laid on the bed. He wanted me to stay in his chambers for the night and that was enough to excite me. He would probably be coming back later and I would get the opportunity to tease him again.I dried myself off and pulled his shirt over my still naked form. It was a black shirt, so you weren't able to see my body through it, but I still felt bare without any clean underwear to wear. I sat back on the bed and was ready to for wait for the King to return. I sighed after an hour had passed, laying back in the bed as boredom washed over me. Groaning, I allowed my eyes to flit across the room, taking in all the minor details. CHAPTER 13 _____THIRD PERSON Once Mariah and Gideon got back to the castle, they immediately went to the kitchen with all the stuff Ms Thomas needed, but Mariah filled with dread when she saw the guards everywhere. She placed the stuff down and looked to Ms Thomas who was talking to Gideon frantically."What's going on?" Mariah asked as she stepped toward Ms Thomas. "My dear, the King has been on a rampage looking for you. The guards have been searching every inch of the castle and his already planning to search through all the nearby villages. Mariah felt her mouth go dry with fear as a guard grabbed her arm." You're Mariah Castello, right?" he asked and Mariah found herself nodding her head in fear.The guard didn't ask anymore question as he dragged Mariah up the steps toward the Kings office. Once they got to the door, the guard knocked twice and waited for the King's respons

Chapter 12_________THIRD PERSON When she woke up the next morning she was sad to see nothing but sheets beside her, and they were cold. Mariah tried not to be too disappointed as she stood up from the bed and looked around. She knew after one glance around the room that he wasn't in it.Had yesterday meant nothing to him?Mariah suddenly felt stupid for ever assuming they could ever be more. He was the King of her country. He ruled over millions of people and had the burden of looking after them. She could never be the one to truly stand at his side, she was nothing but a maid. She stood up and wiped a stray tear that had fallen down her cheek as she walked to her room to shower. After Mariah had cleaned herself of his touch, she got dressed in her uniform and walked to the kitchens for breakfast. As soon as she walked in she was handed and tray of food. "

Chapter 11_______THIRD PERSON It was late in the night when Mariah felt someone touching her face. She moved slightly causing them to stop for second before they continued to stroke her hair. She heard the person sigh before standing up, not before leaving a soft kiss in her forehead.Just by the feeling the kiss gave her alone she knew it was the King. She slowly fell back asleep but she was suddenly haunted by the memory of the dungeon and the dead bodies they carried out of the cells everyday. She jumped up in fear and looked around her room, but only found darkness in his place. She suddenly felt so alone as she glanced around her room again. No family, no friends, no one.
