Chapter 9

Mia POV

I went to sit next to Patrick. He takes my hand in his. He looks at me with amazement in his eyes.

"That was amazing. I see now why you wanted to be a singer. You should do everything in your power to make that dream a reality. You cannot hide that talent away. Everyone in the world needs to hear your voice." Patrick looks so sincere. I haven't sung for anyone since my parents died. I only ever sang for people close to me.

"Thank you, Patrick. Like I said I haven't sung in a really long time. I am a little rusty."

"If that was you being a little rusty. I wonder what you will sound like when you are in practice." 

I hear someone cleaning his through and we looked up. I see a man in a suit standing there. He is smiling from ear to ear, almost looking like he has won the lottery.

"I am sorry to interrupt your evening. My name is Domonic. I am the owner of the Fletcher Pub. I was here on a date with my wife and heard you sing. I am looking for new talent for my pub. The band that used to play at my pub quit on me after the received a record deal. Will you be interested in a permanent position as a singer in my pub?"

" It would be a dream come true Dominic. Are you sure about this?"

"O I am sure. We are constantly looking for new talent and girl, you have talent. Why don't you come to the pub tomorrow? Let's say 8. My partner Scott will also be there. You can sing for him too and then we can talk about your contract. Will, that suit you?" 

"That will suit me just fine thank you. I will see you at 8." Domonic gave me his business card. I kept looking between Domonic and the business card in astonishment.

Dominic walked away and back towards his table. I didn't know what to say. Could this be the big break I was looking for? I feel so giddy inside. I just want to stand up and dance, but I don't think it will be appropriate right now.

"Did that just happen?" I asked looking at Patrick.

"I guess it did. Maybe this means that you can finally follow your dream. This is a universal sign."

"I need to thank you for bringing me here. If you didn't I wouldn't have had this opportunity."

Patrick and I stayed for a few hours just listening to everyone that sung. I haven't had this much fun in a long time. We got to know each other quite a bit. Patrick is a really great guy. I surely hope that there will be a second date.

Patrick drove me home. There is a comfortable silence between us and I like it. When we stopped outside my house I saw Kai's car outside. My limbs froze at the prospect of seeing him again. This cannot be good. I said my goodbyes to Patrick and walked up to my porch. I took a deep breath before opening the door.

I found Kai in the livingroom just casually watching TV. Liam is lying on his lap fast asleep.

Kai sees me and picks up Liam and takes him to his room. He sits back down on the couch.

"Hey Kai. What are you doing here?" I asked and went to sit next to him on the couch.

"Ava had to go to the hospital. so I came here to look after Liam." 

"Why did Ava go to the hospital? Is everything okay?"

"O yes. She is fine. She had to go to the hospital because her mother fell and broke her hip."

"Why didn't you call me? I would have come home so you can go with her to the hospital. I see this as an emergency." I can't believe him. Kai needs to go to Ava.

"I wanted to be here when you came home. I need to clear the air between us. I miss you Mia."

"I miss you too Kai, but Ava needs you more now. Her mother is in the hospital."

"I will go as soon as we sort this out. I am sorry about telling you I have feelings for you. I know that I placed you in a horrible position."

"Thank you, Kai. Now go to the hospital. We will talk about this on Sunday." 

Kai looks at me pleadingly. I know we have to talk about this sooner or later.

"Okay fine. Let's talk. Yes, I am mad about you telling me about your feelings. I see Ava every day. I told you stuff over the years that I haven't told anyone. I told you what I want in a guy. And now that I think about you used all this information on me over the years. I thought you were my best friend."

"I am sorry Mia. I truly am. I just wanted a shot with you so badly. The last month I have been thinking and I think that the only reason that I wanted you so badly is that you didn't like me back. I finally realized that I love Ava and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I wanted you to be the first to know. "

"I am happy for you. and I did want to share some things tonight. I finally got my big break. I have an interview at a pub tomorrow. I am going to sing."

"That is the best news I have ever heard. So we are cool now? Can we go back to before all of this happened?"

"Shure, but first can you please go to the hospital now. Ava needs you."

We both stood up and we hugged each other. I am glad that I have my best friend back.

Kai left our house. and I went to bed. That night I finally slept soundly. My life is finally falling into place.
