CHAPTER THIRTY

LauraI didn't know how long I'd laid in bed, but I knew it had been ages. The room glowed from the yellowing of the setting sun. I heaved from the bed and took a glance at the wall clock.5:30, and Blake hadn't returned? For reasons I wasn't sure of, I began to worry. Could he be that he was mad at me? Like, truly truly mad? Even if he was, where on Earth had he gone to?The growl of my tummy cut through my thoughts, and I was glad it did. It was time I had something to eat. I ought to be concerned about my well-being first, rather than worrying about some dude who only knew how to irk the sense out of someone.I got into the bathroom to freshen up, before having my exit. I was pleased with my choice of outfit. The loose cotton kimono let breeze brush through my skin. That feeling was heavenly, since I found myself in a heat-filled city.I got to

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

LauraA sharp pain pierced through my skull, making me wince. I pulled my eyes open only for streams of light to rush in: a fuel to the headache. I quickly shut my eyes, trying to bring myself to focus on the light intensity. Having done that, I reopened my eyes. And yes, this time the light wasn't all heavy or harsh. The chandelier hanging from the ceiling was familiar. At that point, I realised I was in the room. I didn't know how I made it here, cause I could remember having a terrible hangover. I couldn't recollect what happened after that.I caught something through my peripheral vision. It was a figure. Pulling my gaze down to its left level, I became aware it was a guy. No, it wasn't just any guy. That was Blake. My heart skipped immediately I registered that. He was in the bedroom, here with me, having his pyjama

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Blake My plate was full, booming with fruit salad, turkey ribs, toasts and bacon. Although I could give my all to have more of the food---as my stomach rambled---I simply picked at it. I just wasn't in the mood to eat. Wasn't that the irony? Wanting to eat, but not eager to do so. All these because of the low-life I hired to play my wife!"Hey, man. Is everything alright?" Henry's voice shook me up."Yeah, why..." I followed his gaze to meet my palms clenched on my fork. I had been bloody stabbing my bacon. Not giving it a slice, or even trying to eat it. I was just punishing the poor meat."I'm good," I said and returning to my food. This time, however, I didn't mutilate it.Laura was a she devil. Oh yes, she was sent to destroy me. And I clearly deser

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

Laura I watched as Blake got j to the bathroom, with my mouth wide open. I couldn't believe what just took place: Blake coming in to tell me we should start over? Why, I'd never been that surprised. I pulled deeper into the bed, trying my best to replay and draw up conclusions to what had just happened. But I couldn't give a name to it. One minute Blake was mad, even to the point of not sparing a glance at me in the dining. Then, the next he came telling me to let go of our differences and start over. I just couldn't see the sense in that.  My phone rang, cutting my thoughts short. The name that appeared on the screen was 'LOML', and only one person had that name saved in my phone: Faith.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

Laura After speaking with Faith, and arranging my clothes, I headed toward the loving room. There, around the passage, I heared voices. People chattering, uttering salutations and pleasantries.  I walked in to find the place filled---okay, not technically filled---with people. The entire family was seated. Blake, his mom, his dad, Daya, Courtney, Henry and a young man who was carrying Daya's boys. I took that to be Leo, Daya's husband. "Here, she is,". Blake's mom enthused. " You're right in time, Olive." She stood and walked up to me. "I want you to meet Leo. Daya's husband." Guessed, Mrs. McGregor took it upon he

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

"Hi, Olive," Courtney's voice cut me out of my thoughts.  I glanced up at her to find her standing in front of me. She wore a cream coloured T-shirt, and a loosely fit shorts. I smiled in response. She sat across me. "How do you see the dinner?" "Ugh. Awesome. It's more than I imagined."  "Oh, yeah?" she replied, smiling. "I'm glad you like it." "Oh, I do." I took a sip from my drink. "Barbecues are wonderful." "Yes, they are. But you guys have BBQ nights in the States, right?"

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

Laura "So, tell me. What do you want from my brother?" She spelled out the words more. She was close now, her face pinned up to me. I couldn't believe this was happening. I just couldn't believe I'd fallen into Daya's trap. I mean, how could I have been that gullible to believe she wanted us to form a good relationship? Why had I been so stupid. She gave me the look that suggested I was keeping her waiting, and she wanted me to go on with an answer. Thing was, no word was forthcoming. The shock and bemusement was just too much for me to handle."Of course, you won't say anything." Daya finally said, "What in the world was I thinking?"She shot daggers with my ears, gave a faint hissed and turned to leave. I could see her shake her head in disappointment as she left the door.Wh

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Blake I saw how her brows furrowed together. It was clear that she didn't understand my question. My question had clearly taken her aback. "About the dinner." I added to clear out her confusion. "Oh," she gave a nervous, quite embarrassed, laugh. "Well, if you want me to." I smiled, letting my eyes move dreamily around her. Laura was pretty. There was no denying that fact or statement. She had very sharp eyes, and I believed it was the colour---its hazel, greenish tint colour---that accounted for that. Her fake blonde hair blared against the dim light, and for some odd reasons, I found myself craving to see her in her natural hair: deep brunette.

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Blake The steward scribbled something, our other I guessed, on his paper and faced Laura. "What can I get you, ma'am?" "Uhm, cookies and a glass of milk." I looked at Laura and she became defensive, replying with, "What?" I shrugged. The steward strode off to get our orders. This time, Laura looked at me. "Why do you judge?" "Judge? I didn't judge." "Of course, you did," she said, "by giving me that look." "What look?" I asked.

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Laura By the time I was done baking, I was smoldering hot. All my body was glistening with sweet. Not saying that baking was a task, of course not. I enjoyed doing it. The issue, however, as that it was time taking, and energy consuming. Thankfully and luckily for me, Mrs. Alonso was here to help.  "I'll go have a shower now," I said to Mrs. Alonso. She nodded and walked into the room.  My shower was pretty quick. I made sure I washed my hair properly. After doing that, I realised the blonde colour was beginning to fade. What I did, I quickly dried myself and left the shower. Then, I started dying my hair I anew. I knew deep down within me that dying my hair each time wasn't healthy. It had been something terrible for one of my college friends. The girl wasn't in love with her natural ginger red hair. What she did, she dyed her hair coffee brown just because the guy she was crushing on appeared to like dark hai
