The Daran's home was a delightful sight, large widths and lengths and a beautiful front yard. It was made of mostly glass and a few brick walls, and undeniably, it was truly suitable for their eminence.When I entered, I was welcomed by a maid, who led me straight into the living room where I was sure I would find my father and Rashid already seated.I was right but what I didn't expect was Shade to be present too. She sat beside him caked in makeup, dressed in a pretty but too exposing package. Jamilah recovered quickly, greeting me before pulling her eyes away from mine immediately and I was almost sure she would avoid them throughout the whole dinner.She was nervous as the trembling in her hands didn't go unheeded, exactly like the night when I first met her. I wondered, did she hate me? Or did she see me as some brute her family was handing her off to, willingly.

"We have set the wedding date already," Rashid revealed sometime after the dinner, smiling broadly to my father who returned it equally as always but honestly, I was getting fed up with all the falsified gestures and actions.  "And when would that be?" I asked while my future wife sat so far away on the sofa, refusing to come anywhere near me as if I was some sort of plague.

I left the room, leaving behind my father, Rashid and Shade as Tijani had stood up some minutes ago to take a call but I with the intention of studying the Daran's home.  I had already established the fact that it was large, so taking note of every wing or section might have been a difficult task to do now as I was not disposed to enough time.

The drive home was a long one as I took my time to ponder about everything that had happened today. When had I become such a person that used people's weaknesses against them? When did I become so malevolent?I had finally reached the hotel but then I didn't feel like going straight to bed. The night seemed to be glowing today for no reason and the stars a bit shinier.

"You are scaring me, what happened?""It was a mistake, Jacob. I didn't mean to," Osaze croaked as he gripped the sides of his hair with his hands. He had started shaking his head repeatedly almost and kept on muttering silently, the words 'I didn't mean to.'

"What are you doing here?" I asked with only a cursory glance her way, before leaving the door open and walking back inside.She followed me, accepting the invitation and at once filling the space with her scent. A subtle savor of a floral blend, the comforting rich fragrance of vanilla and an intoxicating tinge of vetiver. It had an evocative touch to it, that recollected happier days, almost like the fresh and briny redolence of the sea breeze.   Regrettably, I allowed myself to seek solace in that previous warmth her presence emitted and I knew then that deep down I was still entangled in her web which irked me to even think about.  "The charity function," she replied briskly before sitting at the edge of the king sized bed,

I was sure the drastic change in my features and stance was well observed by her and even to the people standing close by. I had come in contact with the enemy, and even though disguised in a pretty package, everything about this woman signalled danger."Pleased to meet you, Mrs Kubra," I replied, dropping my laid back approach and a bit of a withdrawn and stand-offish edge to my tone present.

It was absurd but I had felt like I had connected a little with the strange lady through her song. The wordings were a sort of insight to her story and it was almost as if I had known her for years. I strained my eyes but yet again, her face was well hidden behind the black mask and a riveting smile flooded my features as I accepted the challenge to discover what lay beneath those coverings.
