"Guess who just got engaged," Maya said to her friends grinning from ear to ear. She had invited them over for a lunch date at a fancy restaurant in town. "Oh my goodness, you are so lucky," Mia screamed and covered her mouth with her hands when all eyes turned towards her.  

It was a quiet morning just the way Maya liked it. The weather was beautiful and the sun out, with no sign of possible rainfall. Maya stayed at the hospital for a week to get adequate treatment, a therapist had also been assigned to her to help her deal with what happened and share her pains. When her doctors felt she was okay to face the world she was released from the hospital. Maya's mother called Craig and he helped her bring her home from the hospital. She had nightmares for some days after coming home that she was scheduled for another therapy and with time the nightmares stopped.

Today at the hospital had not been hectic which was a welcomed relief from the norm. Kabir had few patients to attend to before he ended his shift and went home.  As he left the ward of a lady in her mid 40's that had a fibroid operation last night, he came face to face with a nurse that was trying to reach him.

 Mrs. Hudson was making her pastry snacks for a client celebrating her 29 years wedding anniversary when her doorbell rang, she was not expecting anyone so she ignored it, maybe the person would go away she had hoped. The doorbell rang again and she impatiently dried her hands with the towel hanging on the rail and went to the door. She swung the door open and was surprised to see two policemen at her door.

"Mother can you come over to my place, it's urgent. " Clara said over the phone to her mother. "What's the problem, hope you have not done anything silly this time." 

The day started with a heavy downpour, you could hear the splattering of the rain on the rooftop. As a child, Maya had always loved it when it rained because she was sure of an offering of cookies and some hot cocoa by her mum. Life had been simpler those days, she had little or nothing to worry about. Growing up had not been all that rosy with an absent father and the little resources available to them, but somehow they survived it all especially her mothers' power to provide her with what she needed to have a better future.
