Chapter 9 Something Like Whirlwind Marriage

When Yin Xiaoxiao went back to his Land Rover, she couldn't believe that she had only seen this man twice and only ever ridden in his car twice. In fact, she had just learned his name moments ago and now they were... married?

Jing Liyuan casually tossed their marriage registration booklet on the dashboard of the Land Rover. Yin Xiaoxiao thought that the bright red color of the booklet was as harsh as the sunlight that day, so she turned to look out of the window.

Jing Liyuan started the car before he said calmly, "Where are you headed?" His voice sounded distant.

Yin Xiaoxiao froze for a moment before giving him her address. She was just about to let him know about her predicament when his phone rang. She watched as he put on his Bluetooth earbuds in a leisurely manner.

"Jing Liyuan."

He sounded very charismatic as he answered the call. Whoever was on the other end of the line would know that it was him. Most people would start the self-introduction with "You're speaking to..." but he went straight to the point and said, "Jing Liyuan". It was clear that he was very confident and sure of himself. Yin Xiaoxiao suddenly found herself being mesmerized by him and she felt that she was truly looking at him for the first time.

His eyebrows were bold and straight, his nose was tall, and his thin lips made him look sexy. His every movement made him seem understated and reserved.

She frowned as she thought about her impression of him. Did she just think that he was understated and reserved?

Would someone who was reserved and understated randomly get hitched in a whirlwind marriage?

"What's going on? Check the patient's blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Finish the preparations and if it doesn't work. Find the head of the nursing department and put the patient on a drip... I understand. I'll be right there." Jing Liyuan issued a string of instructions confidently to the nurse who sounded a little panicked on the other end of the line. He switched lanes and turned the car back before he stopped at the roadside and said, "I'm sorry but something has come up so I can't send you home. I'll head over to meet your parents after I'm done with work... and we can discuss our plans for a wedding ceremony with them."

Yin Xiaoxiao felt a little dazed as she watched him put away the red booklet, open the car door, and flag down a taxi for her. He only went back to his car after he had given her address to the taxi driver. Then, he hopped back into his car and drove away.

Yin Xiaoxiao switched from the Land Rover to the taxi in a daze and only came back to her senses when she saw her house looming up ahead of her. She was almost home but her husband wasn't by her side!

She suddenly had the urge to tell the taxi driver to turn around and drive off, but Yin Ruoyun, who had been keeping watch at the gates, noticed her arrival and even helpfully announced her arrival to everyone at home. When Yin Xiaoxiao saw Li Meng emerge from the house, she had no choice but to get out of the taxi.

Li Meng and Yin Ruoyun looked in her direction and were secretly pleased when they saw that she was alone. Nonetheless, they didn't show their smugness and greeted her by looping their arms through hers.

"Xiaoxiao, you left so early that we were wondering if something had happened to you. I'm so glad to see that you're fine," Li Meng said, holding Yin Xiaoxiao's hand as though she was afraid that Yin Xiaoxiao would bolt anytime. She turned around in an exaggerated manner to look behind her and asked, "Hmm, Xiaoxiao, I thought you mentioned you would be bringing your boyfriend home to see us? Your dad was all ready to meet him, so where is he? Will he be coming soon?"

Yin Xiaoxiao was forced to respond to Li Meng and Yin Ruoyun. After she overheard their conversation, she knew that she couldn't afford to fall into their trap, but Li Meng's words had put her in a tight spot.

"Yes, something came up, but I'm sure he'll be here soon," Yin Xiaoxiao felt a little embarrassed as she said those words. She knew that she had emerged from the Civil Affairs Bureau with Jing Liyuan but now that he wasn't by her side, she couldn't help but feel a little awkward as she continued, "He was supposed to come but he had to attend to some urgent matters..."

Hearing Yin Xiaoxiao sound somewhat guilty, Yin Ruoyun and Li Meng exchanged a knowing look but miraculously, they didn't make use of this to continue sneering at her. Instead, they continued to pull her into her house.

Nevertheless, Yin Xiaoxiao couldn't help but hurl silent curses at Jing Liyuan at that moment!

Damn it, what kind of man had to rush off to his workplace on the first day of marriage? Was she so insignificant that she was nothing compared to his work?

Not only did he have a sharp tongue, but he was also constantly putting her in awkward positions!
