Chapter 4

Autor: Gu family's Little Bamboo
Melody Lane's face changed just as Gary Lane’s vicious slap landed on Yvonne Lane’s face.

"What are you talking about! You drove a car into someone else and were locked up in jail because of it. Our entire family was put to shame because of you. You don't have a future anymore. Do you want to ruin your sister's future as well?" Gary Lane scolded.

His eyes were full of disgust for his older daughter. When he thought back to the time when his family had been able to make connections with the Shaw family, and the amount of respect his relatives and friends had had to give him back then, he couldn't help despising her for what she did.

Yvonne Lane's cheeks hurt so much and it was like they were on fire, but her expression remained calm, as if she didn't care at all.

"I originally just wanted to offer some incense for my mother, but now it seems that there is no need for me to do it here. I won't step foot in this house ever again."

After saying this, Yvonne Lane turned around and left the place that had once been her home.

There was no place for her in this "home".

—

When Yvonne Lane got to her apartment, the place was dark and the lights were off. When she turned on the lights, she was greeted by a cold silence.

She could tell at a glance that there was no one else in the room.

Was Julian gone? Her heart suddenly felt a little empty. It turned out that in the end, she was still the only one left!

Yvonne Lane let out a bitter laugh. Just as she was about to turn around and close the door, she saw a figure slowly walking towards her. She was stunned.

It was Julian!

He was still wearing those worn-out clothes of his from yesterday while he held a bag in his hand. His thick bangs almost covered the entire upper part of his face, making it difficult for people to see his face clearly at a glance, but she knew that under the bangs was a face that could easily take over people's hearts.

Such a person... was he really a homeless person?

She was not familiar with him at all, and she didn't even know much about him. She knew that taking him in like this was an impulsive decision and could put her in danger, but... she couldn't stop herself.

Perhaps humans were tribal animals after all. They needed company.

"I'm back." A cold and indifferent voice sounded, but it also sounded like the most beautiful sound nature could produce.

Her throat suddenly felt warm, and her words caught in her throat. "I... I thought you wouldn't come back."

He stared at her. "I just went out to buy something."

She quickly leaned to one side, pulled him into the room, and closed the door. Then, she saw two white steamed buns in the bag he held.

She smiled gently and felt that her whole body seemed to be much more relaxed now.

"We'll eat together later, but before that, I... wanted to offer some incense to my mother. Today is the anniversary of her passing," said Yvonne Lane. She took out some red candles and incense she had bought on the way home from her bag, along with a framed photo.

It was a black and white photo of a woman. The woman in the photo was only about 30 years old, looking gentle and beautiful.

She lit the candles and incense, held the incense in her hands, and bowed three times to the photo respectfully.

"Mom, I've started a new life now. I'm living a good life. I have a job that pays well enough for me to feed myself. You can rest assured, and in the future, I will only live a better and better life..."

Julian Youngblood stood to one side and looked at the woman in front of him with a smile on her lips. However, her almond-shaped eyes looked misty. The light of the candles and the light of the lamps mixed together and caused shadows to dance across her face.

She had arched eyebrows, a small nose, and pink lips. She was not at all bad-looking, but Julian Youngblood had already seen too many beautiful women. Back then, Blossom Hall, his fiancee, had also been a rare beauty. To Julian Youngblood, Yvonne Lane's looks were only ordinary.

He had seen her information and naturally knew that today was her mother's death anniversary. She was just a woman who had just come out of prison and was doing a road-sweeping job, but she was still saying she was doing well?

"Also, there's another person here who's staying with me," she said softly. She then turned her head and looked at him with her round eyes. Under the light of the candles, she was quiet and indifferent, but also seemed to be filled with infinite joy.

It was like his presence in and of itself was enough to satisfy her. After a moment, she turned to look at the woman in the photo again. "So, I am doing really good, mom. You can rest in peace now."

After saying this, she respectfully bowed three more times, and only then did she insert the incense into the box. She then quietly stood there and looked at the photo inside the frame.

After 15 minutes, the incense burnt out. Yvonne Lane blew out the candles and said to Julian Youngblood, "Alright, I'll clean up and make some soup. Let's have dinner together."

"Sure," he responded.

She quickly packed the things up before taking out an egg and a tomato from the refrigerator and cooking up an egg and tomato soup. They then began to eat dinner together with steamed buns as a side dish.

"Oh right, Julian, what kind of work did you do in the past?" Yvonne Lane asked as she ate.

"I did all sorts of work. If there was work to do, then I would do it. If there wasn't, then I would just find a place to rest," he said.

Rest? She wondered if his "rest" meant sitting by the side of the road lifelessly like yesterday. He must have suffered a lot in the past. Otherwise, why else would he be sitting out on the streets on a cold winter night?

"How old are you?" she asked again.

"Twenty-seven," he replied.

"We're the same age," she said in surprise. "Which month were you born in?"

"November."

"It's July for me. In that case, I'm a few months older than you," said Yvonne Lane. "You don't have any family, and neither do I. Why don't you treat me as your sister from now on? I will also regard you as my younger brother."

"Sister?" He smiled lightly. There had never been anyone who had dared to be his sister before, and yet this woman still insisted on being his sister shamelessly?

If she knew who he was, would she still dare to say such a thing?

However, it was exactly because she didn't know that it was so interesting to him.

"Can't you?" Her eyes darkened.

When her mother passed away, she had only been 3 years old. She only knew that her mother had had an accidental miscarriage and died from it. As for the baby that had been in her stomach, she had heard from her family's elders and relatives that it had already been 6 months old. It was a boy, but unfortunately, he had only lived for 10 minutes after being taken out.

If that boy had survived, he would have been her younger brother, and perhaps then she would not have been as lonely as she was now!

"Are you sure you want to be my sister?" His voice suddenly sounded.

She quickly looked up and saw his beautiful, amorous eyes behind his bangs. His eyes were clear, but they also made her feel as if they were clouded in a mysterious mist.

"Mm," she replied.

"But, neither do I have a permanent home nor do I have an actual job. I can't even provide for myself properly. Why do you want to be my sister?"

The Paranoid Boss's Convicted Wife   Chapter 30

Maya Hall frowned as well and glanced at Zachary Shaw. After all, the ad was being projected by the Shaw family.Zachary Shaw replied, "Let me ask about the situation..."He had barely finished speaking when his phone rang suddenly. When he picked up the call, his expression abruptly turned unpleasant. "What? Taken down? They were all taken down? Aren't they afraid of paying the penalty fees?""The order stated that even if they have to pay the penalty fees in full, the ads must be taken down." The manager in charge cried as he reported through the phone. "President Shaw, we rushed to contact other companies but none of them were willing to project these ads."In other words, other than enterprises under the Hall or Shaw name, no other companies would play this projection ad."Who is it that's trying to go against the Shaw family?" Zachary Shaw asked, his face ghastly pale."It's the Youngblood family," the manager replied. "This issue was personally handled by the Youngblood Gro

"Who are you calling brother-in-law?" A voice suddenly rang out. A beautiful and fashionable woman dressed in a brown coat approached them. She laughed coldly when she noticed Melody Lane. "I was wondering who this is, turns out you're that murderer's little sister."Melody Lane's expression immediately turned unpleasant. She recognized that the woman standing before her was Maya Hall, Zachary Shaw's current fiancée.Maya Hall approached Melody Lane with a disdainful gaze. "I remember you're just a player. So, you've come to find Zachary today and call him brother-in-law in the hope that he will give you a leading lady role? Your skin sure is thick."Melody Lane was extremely embarrassed by the scolding. It just so happened that other people were coming and going along the corridor at that moment, staring at them as if they were watching a play.Melody Lane could only curse Yvonne Lane internally. "If she hadn't killed someone while driving, I would already have gracefully become

"There should be ninety-nine," Colin Graham said. He remembered that there had been media interviews in which Zachary Shaw had said that there would be a total of 99 projection ads, representing the love of 99 lifetimes. This sentence also became a classic for many fans of Maya Hall. Maya Hall was now a popular female star in the entertainment circle, so naturally, she had a lot of fans."Remove all of them," Julian Youngblood said."All of them?" Colin Graham was surprised."All of them," Julian Youngblood said with certainty."Okay, I will do it." Young Master Youngblood suddenly wanted to withdraw the projection ads of the Shaw family. Had the Shaw family or the Hall family offended Young Master Youngblood? Or did he not like the marriage alliance between the two families? However, hadn't Young Master Youngblood accepted the engagement invitation from the Shaw and Hall families before?Colin Graham was puzzled. Suddenly, he shivered and thought of a striking possibility."Cou

He stared at her. "Sister, do you think that I make too little money?""Ah, no!" she said in denial. "I just want you to have a better life." Perhaps this was all there was to her life, but she wanted something better for him."I will have a better life. When the time comes, I can give you whatever kind of life you want," he looked at her seriously and said. This was just a game for him, but at this moment, he really wanted to give her a better life in the future. For him, that would also be a piece of cake.Yvonne Lane laughed. She did not think that Julian could give her the life she wanted. However, she did not want to hurt the other party's self-esteem either, so she said, "Okay, okay, then I'll wait until Julian earns a lot of money to look after me in the future with. That way, I'll be able to live comfortably as someone who knows nothing except for relying on you.""Okay," he agreed, his eyes glinting with determination. "As long as she is willing, I'll make sure that she w

When she heard this, she just took it as a joke. This had been specially made by the Shaw family and the Hall family for their marriage alliance. Who dared to take it down? It was dark in front of her eyes. His hand was touching her skin, and there was a warm feeling coming from it.After a while, she pulled his hand down and looked up at him. "Julian, thank you." She thought that he was trying to comfort her by saying these things. "Alright, let's go. Let's go home for dinner." As she spoke, she held his hand and walked in the direction of their residence. He glanced at the big projection ad and then followed her steps to leave.—Back at the rental apartment, Yvonne Lane went to the security office in the community to retrieve an express delivery. It was the woollen sweater she had bought. She opened the express delivery, took out the sweater, and touched the material. It was not bad. For that price, the quality was quite good."Julian, come and see if this sweater suits you,"

On the way back with Julian Youngblood, Yvonne Lane suddenly said, "Julian, do you know Zachary Shaw?""The president of the Shaw Group?" he asked."You know him too then. Yes, he's the guy who's been in the gossip news recently. He's the groom in the marriage between the Shaw family and Hall family, and... he's also..." She paused and hesitated for a moment before saying, "My ex-boyfriend."Julian Youngblood also stopped walking and stood quietly by Yvonne Lane's side, looking at her.Perhaps some words or some emotions had been bottled up in her heart for too long, so she could not help but want to spit them out at this moment. "Don't you think it is incredible that someone like me was once that person's girlfriend?"She laughed at herself. "At that time, I was still a new lawyer who had just graduated, and I thought that he and I would get married. However, I had not been expecting that in a car accident I would be charged with driving under the influence and causing death. At

"I must be thinking too much!"Seeing that Yvonne Lane was busy with her work, Xander Gold shook his head and said, "Yvonne, then... then I'll go first since you're busy."Watching Xander Gold leave, Julian Youngblood suddenly grabbed Yvonne Lane's chin with his fingers and half-forced her to face

"If Sister likes it, I will like it," said Julian Youngblood."Don't think about what I like. You should like it yourself. If you don't like it, I will find you another sweater in a different style," she said."No need, this one is good. I like it very much," he said."Okay then, I'll buy this on
