Engagement night (2)

Even if I was struck by lightning I wouldn't be as shell-shocked as I was. His dark eyes had the intensity of a beast going to swallow its prey whole. His predatory look made me tremble. And his statement that he wouldn't let me escape…I could swear I had never in my two timelines met that person. His fierce countenance combined with his absurd statement scared me in no joking manner.

''There must be a misunderstanding. I never had the opportunity to be acquainted with you.'' I tried to be polite and pleasant as possible. Despite that, there was a scornful grimace on his face.

''Hell, if I knew what talented actress you are.'' He chuckled suddenly. ''Do you honestly think I will believe your pretence? You may have plastic surgeries and changed the colour of your eyes, however, I can never mistake the person who you really are.'' Well, obviously you could. Without a doubt, he knew a woman closely resembling me and was adamant to treat me like her. In this vast world with so many people there sure existed some who resembled others. Blood-connection wasn't necessary. Even the girl who reversed time for me looked like my twin but I was an only child. Unfortunately, it looked like I had to persuade him into realising this.

''Mr Kang, isn't it?'' He only gave me mocking half-smile. I ignored him. ''This is my first interaction with you. I suppose I look like someone who you know but I assure you I am not her. My name is Luo McCarner, granddaughter of old Master Yan and Yan Si is my cousin.'' I smiled politely after I finished my introduction. His eyebrows were furrowed thoughtfully.

''Young madam, is there a problem?'' Butler Che was watching from the sidelines until now. His face was devoid of emotion however his eyes betrayed the worry brewing behind the surface.

''Mr Kang took me for someone else,'' I said reassuringly.

''Did I?'' There was a sudden chill on my back when his cold voice asked frostily. In the next moment, his body was close to mine. He was taller than me and I had to raise my head to look at his eyes. Subconsciously, I wanted to step back. He looked so arrogant and mighty. Watching me from above made me feel like an insect. Realising, this was his purpose all along, I gritted my teeth, putting on indifferent look. He sneered with obvious mirth in his black eyes.

''Don't think I will let you be. Very soon I will come for you. We will settle our score.'' His threat was said lightly. With no more words, he turned his back and left for real. I exhaled slowly the breath I didn't know I hold.

''Young Madam, why Master Kang threatened you?''

''Because someone else offended him and for some god*mn reason I have to pay.'' I pinched the space between my eyebrows. Gosh, what bad deed did I do to deserve someone else's sins? I had to find a way to resolve it quickly.

''What was he talking about before I showed? He said Yan Si will have the same fate as Fu Hai. Is that the same Fu Hai who Yan Corporation was supposed to have collaboration with? This man was killed.''

''You mistook, Young Madam. Don't worry yourself with such a thing. With Old Master Yan's power, no one can hurt the Yan family.'' Butler Che smiled nonchalantly. I wasn't convinced at all. Kang Xianliang looked like a person who didn't speak empty words.

''If someone asks about me, tell them I went to rest.''

With my final words said I left the ceremony and entered the manor. When I was on the second floor I came to a halt. Uncle's room was a few doors before mine. I put my hand on the handle and once I was inside I decided to check on his laptop which was always close to him. Well, now due to his son's engagement it was left unattended. It wasn't hard to access the company files. After a few minutes of reading reports for many business projects, I was disappointed. Yan Corporation had nothing to do with Kang Enterprises. After some contemplating, I checked for hidden folders. When I found them they were encrypted. After decrypting I was shaken.

Long story short, it was about some arms deal. Two weeks ago there was an ongoing deal between Kang Enterprise and the Italian mafia. Due to the first lacking connections, Yan Corporation acted as a mediator between the buyer and seller. Kang Enterprises wanted to buy weapons from the Italian mafia. Negotiations of the conditions were going smoothly until a mediator from Yan Corporation stole the money intended for the deal. No one knew how happened. The only certain thing was that Kang Xianliang was angry at Yan Corporation. I leaned back in my chair trying to process the whole information. I thought I lost all my naivety and nothing could make me feel like a total idiot, alas I was wrong. Arms were highly searched and of course, a person like a grandfather would find a way to earn money from them. His greediness was infinite. Because of it, Yan Si's life was in danger. Did uncle agree to all of this? I was angered.

''Xiao Luo, what are you doing in my father's room?'' Yan Si's voice ranged in the room.

''Come here,'' I ordered solemnly. ''We have problems to discuss.''
