The depth of the swimming pool was about four to five feet and it was perfect for someone who didn't know how to swim to have an accident but I wondered who?

"I need to talk to you," I declared as I stood in front of the chair they both sat on and when they were finally out of their bubble, they realized it was me standing before them.

My father's hands were still on Shade's waist but it was a pity, her eyes were solely focused on me now and not her darling husband.

"I'm busy."

"Its urgent," I insisted and still he didn't make any attempts to stand up.

"I'm sure it can wait, I'm with my wife now and it's rude if I leave her hanging," he said and I was losing my patience. My father sat there because he didn't understand the gravity of the situation at hand and what could happen or would.

"This is more more important than Shade," I replied showing a bit of the distaste and anger I felt at the mention of her name.

"Fine, say it here then."

I raised an eyebrow in question, showing my surprise and confusion. Tagging it as urgent meant the matter was also top secret and not for external ears, what was he doing?

"It's also not for strangers to hear," I added and Shade sighed, showing her displeasure. I was so certain she had wanted to hear the details but I knew better than to trust a snake twice.

"It's okay honey," Shade voiced and for a split second I hadn't known who the endearment was directed at. Her words said one thing but her body language, a completely different thing altogether.

Now, she had relieved herself from his hold and then I finally had a full view of what she had on. Typical Shade! I laughed a bit in my head as I took in the two piece swimsuit, more like the string suit she had on. It was tempting for any eye to behold but still it displayed her type, fully written on her features, cheap.

I had thought she was going to leave us alone but I should have seen it coming. As she was about to leave, she planted a deep scorching kiss on my father's lips, who in turn looked absolutely pleased.

My gaze faltered from their union as I glanced uncomfortably at the people playing games in the pool. They seemed like the most convenient distraction that could pull my eyes away from the scathing sight.

"See you later, son," she said, bringing my focus back to them as her words and the hand on my shoulder told me the show was over.

"Shade you can go scout out the suite I'll be right with you," my dad said again halting her leave and extending my misery.

"I'll be anticipating your promise," she literally purred as she replied while tugging on her bottom lip and I sensed the sexual intent on the sidelines.

It was torture almost and I squeezed my wrist firmly in order to level my emotions. When they had finally shared their conversation silently, her eyes met mine at once and the glint of satisfaction there didn't go unseen. I had lost this round as she knew her actions had affected me, but she was wrong again, all I still felt was hate.

"So what is it?" He asked a moment later while standing up, after Shade had been forgotten and she was nowhere to be seen.

"Erik Ibrahim," I mentioned, giving him a name first and an opportunity to figure it out.

"And who should he be?"

"The general manager of this hotel," I clarified and he faced me immediately in curiousity. He must have been asking himself now, what could be so urgent about the GM of a hotel we had seen for the first time today.

"Where's the link? Get to the point Jacob," he said and I saw a hint of tension in his words and gesture, did he know the man?

"He just offered us a surprising and dangerous deal."

I could see his line of thoughts, he was anxious but why? It didn't make sense as if he didn't know who Erik Ibrahim was, then what did he fear?

"We have to cover a Charity Auction Gala as hosts, I think to influence it with our credibility and vast contacts, then in turn he invests." I explained further.

"Did you take it?"

"I have to admit, his offer is simple but the intentions behind it might be deadly," I replied and he nodded in agreement.

"He must have something else in mind but what could a GM of a North eastern hotel possibly want from us?" He speculated as he contemplated on the news I had just given him.

"That's the same question I asked but then my line of thinking changed when he mentioned that he knew."

My emphasis on the word 'knew' made him catch on quickly to what I was trying to say and his brows knitted as he closed his eyes in frustration a second after.

When his gaze darted back to mine, his eyes sparked with more fear and interest.

I could only imagine how bothered my father was, somebody knew and it wasn't just only the both of us anymore and who could tell, maybe there were more.

"How is that possible?"

"I have no idea," I responded with a lift of my shoulder after we had moved to a more quiet place, where we could share our thoughts without fear of external ears and eyes.

"Did you see any evidence?"

"No, but I know he wasn't bluffing and even still, it looked as though he had something protecting him on the side with how confident he was but now the question is what could that be?" I said trying to reflect on any enemies we've made in the past that could be behind this but I came up with none except Shell.

Shell group was our ultimate contender but I highly doubted there were behind something as strange as this.

No one knew what had happened that day and it was humanly impossible for someone else to find out because I made sure the evidence was buried deep.

"I had no choice but to accept and I hope It doesn't backfire," I muttered while dropping the gaze I had on him to my feet.

Though, he showed that he understood my decision as it was out of my control by placing his hands on my lower shoulder while giving me an assuring pat.

"Cover the Gala at one of our resorts nearby as it would give us better leverage to control the situation from our side" My dad said and at that moment it appeared to be the only logical action we could take.

"I'll personally be involved to make sure there are no loopholes." I concluded and he nodded again before letting out a heavy sigh as I could sense he was afraid but honestly, he had every right to be terrified because what Erik knew could destroy us and his business.

"Stop! You can't go in there," the woman called out from behind me but I had already hauled the door open in an obvious attempt to be loud.

The Interception   Chapter 29

She had taken the fall on purpose, she had done this for me, for us. I knew my father eventually told her what had transpired between my chance encounter with Erik and the truth behind the gala, how else would Shade have known and figured out so quickly. Maybe I should have even warned him that Erik failed to show up for the anticipated gala but I guess I just didn't want to believe that I had been deceived, it was inconceivable.

"Did you do it?" Bankole asked as we lined up with the rest like we were waiting for some bank attendant or were at an election poll. "Of course I didn't," I replied, still holding on firmly to Shade's hand. She had calmed a bit but I could still see that she was restless.

The Interception   Chapter 27

Whoever had been shot multiple times by someone who was unquestionably brutal and deadly and the harsh whispers produced by frightened people around were doubtlessly adding to the commotion. I saw Shade at some point, she looked scared, covering her mouth with her hand like she could throw up at any moment. I didn't think there was anything else that could go wrong but truly I was mistaken.

"How did you get in?" I still questioned but with caution because I knew any sudden plock, and I might release the beast.

My elbows were on my thighs, back bent forward while my hands cradled my head in them. I took a trip down memory lane as I recalled the events of last night and as if on cue I felt her fingers creep their way past my shoulders. It was morning and the blinds were still shut, blocking away daylight but I had been too busy in thought. I was awake now and unfortunately, I had woken up in the present.
